Aeroflot has again updated the restrictions on hand luggage, making them more loyal. Now on the carrier's website it is reported that the dimensions of one piece of hand luggage for all classes of service should not exceed: 55 cm in length, 40 cm in width, 25 cm in height. The maximum weight of hand luggage is 10 and 15 kg, depending on the class of service.
On February 12, the carrier issued a press release stating that from February 15, Aeroflot would strictly monitor passengers' compliance with the carry-on baggage allowance. At the same time, it was reported that the airline has reduced the allowable size of a bag that can be accepted as hand luggage to measurements of 55 x 40 x 20 cm (length, width, height).
This framework did not include many suitcases purchased by passengers specifically for hand luggage. In fact, the airline applied the norms of foreign low-cost carriers, offering passengers to pay extra for excess baggage.

Exceeding a separate dimension is also paid separately.
Cargoes that have a weight and dimensions greatly exceeding additionally are allowed for transportation only after prior agreement with Aeroflot. Therefore, it is advisable to repack your luggage and make one additional bag with allowed parameters and pay only for it.
The air carrier may not take oversized baggage if there is no free space for it

The basic baggage rules for Aeroflot airlines are as follows:
- All baggage (including hand luggage that the passenger takes into the cabin of the aircraft) must be presented at check-in for the flight;
- It must be marked with special tags;
- On all flights of the airline, a piece baggage system is installed. In simple words, this means that one piece of luggage = 1 suitcase (bag). Even if its weight is less than the allowable one, you will not be allowed to carry the second one for free;
- The number of pieces of baggage depends on the class of service and the type of fare used;
- To find out how many pieces of baggage your ticket includes, look at the numbers on it - 1rs, 2rs, 3rs. The figure also renders the number of bags or suitcases that you can carry for free;
- If the total weight of the passenger's luggage, including hand luggage, is less than 10 kg, the number of pieces is not limited;
- It often happens that Aeroflot operates codeshare flights with partners. In this situation, different en-route baggage allowances determined by the dominant carrier may apply.
- On codeshare flights operated by Aurora and Rossiya airlines, the same rules apply as on Aeroflot flights. The exception is Aurora flights: SU3630-3639, SU4526-4545, SU4591-4629, for which the baggage allowance is one piece for all fare groups.
Aeroflot baggage allowance and dimensions
All baggage that a passenger takes with him on Aeroflot aircraft is divided into:
- Checked baggage (the baggage that is checked in at check-in)
- Hand luggage (taken in the cabin)
On airline flights, regardless of class, the following dimensions apply:
- for checked baggage, the dimensions must be no more than 158 cm in the sum of three dimensions;
- for hand luggage, the dimensions must be no more than 115 cm in the sum of three dimensions.
The free baggage allowance varies depending on the class of service and the selected fare. The minimum weight of baggage on an airplane per person in Aeroflot in 2017 in economy class (excluding premium fares) is:
- checked baggage 1 piece up to 23 kg;
- hand luggage 1 piece up to 10 kg.
Business class allowed
- checked baggage for two pieces of 32 kg each;
- hand luggage 1 piece no more than 15 kg.

For children from 2 to 12 years old, Aeroflot aircraft have the same baggage allowance as for adult passengers.
For infants under 2 years of age (who have not purchased a ticket for a separate seat), the free baggage allowance is 1 piece weighing no more than 10 kg with the sum of three dimensions no more than 115 cm. This procedure applies regardless of the class of service.
Special baggage allowance
In some cases, Aeroflot may establish special baggage allowances. For example, the airline has increased the number of seats allowed on certain routes or introduced privileges for members of the Aeroflot Bonus loyalty program.
What is allowed and prohibited to be carried on an airplane in luggage
In checked baggage you are allowed to carry:
- crossbows, spearguns, checkers, sabers, cleavers, scimitars, broadswords, swords, swords, bayonets, daggers, knives with ejected blades, with locking locks, imitators of any type of weapon;
- household knives (scissors) with a blade (blade) length over 60 mm;
- alcoholic beverages containing more than 24%, but not more than 70% alcohol by volume in containers with a capacity of not more than 5 liters, in containers intended for retail trade - not more than 5 liters per passenger;
- liquids and alcoholic beverages with an alcohol content of not more than 24% by volume;
- aerosols intended for use in sports or domestic purposes, the outlet valves of which are protected by caps from spontaneous release of contents in containers with a capacity of not more than 0.5 kg or 500 ml - not more than 2 kg or 2 liters per passenger;
- medical thermometer containing mercury, in a standard case - one per passenger.
Prohibited for transportation in baggage are, first of all, hazardous substances that can harm other passengers or the aircraft. For example, explosive or flammable agents. The greatest restrictions apply to the transport of things in hand luggage. You can clearly see what is allowed and prohibited to be carried on an Aeroflot plane in the diagram below.
Surcharge for overweight baggage
If your baggage exceeds the allowed weight or the number of pieces established in accordance with the selected fare, you will have to pay extra. So the payment for an additional piece of baggage on domestic flights will be 2500 rubles, and on international flights the price depends on the country (from 2975 rubles to 6900 rubles). It should be noted that every third and subsequent bags (suitcases) will cost many times more. Aeroflot also takes an extra charge for exceeding the size by the sum of three dimensions. To avoid unnecessary payments, plan your baggage in advance, both in terms of weight and dimensions. The excess baggage allowance is an additional cost. If the free baggage allowance is exceeded in several categories (for example, the number of pieces and dimensions), the sum of the relevant baggage rates is applied for excess payment.
Oversized baggage
Oversized baggage on Aeroflot flights is baggage that weighs more than 32 kg (but not more than 50 kg) and/or the sum of three dimensions exceeds 203 cm. It is also called heavy baggage. The transportation of such cargo must be coordinated with the airline no later than 36 hours before the flight departure.
Skis
On Aeroflot flights, the following ski equipment is included in the ticket price and is regarded as one piece of baggage: a bag with 1 pair of skis and 1 pair of poles + 1 piece of baggage with a pair of boots (or 1 bag with a pair of water skis). If the sum of the passenger's baggage items and their weight do not exceed the parameters specified in the ticket, then no additional payment will be required for the transportation of ski equipment.
Snowboarding
The carriage of one snowboard in one bag and one piece of luggage with a pair of boots is included in the ticket price.
Bicycle transportation
According to the rules of the airline, you can transport a bicycle prepared for transportation as baggage. It will fit one piece of luggage. If you don't have any more checked baggage, or if your rate includes 2 or more pieces, you'll be able to take your bike for free.
Transportation of fishing rods
Fishing equipment is transported packed in one container or case. One piece of luggage corresponds to 2 fishing rods or 1 set of tackle.

Rules for transporting weapons on Aeroflot aircraft
A weapon (one item or a special container for transportation with several weapons belonging to one passenger) and one piece of baggage with ammunition for it are considered one piece of baggage. If the baggage allowance established by the tickets is not exceeded, then you will not need to pay extra for transportation. However, if the allowable weight is exceeded, then payment will be required. The gross weight of the ammunition may not exceed 5 kilograms. It is forbidden to transport weapons and ammunition in one container. Cartridges for gas weapons are also prohibited from being transported. Transportation of weapons is carried out in a discharged state.
When transporting weapons through the territory of the Russian Federation, a passenger needs a permit for the right to store and carry weapons. When importing or exporting abroad or transporting through the territory of Russia, the passenger must have a permit for the import or export of weapons issued by the Ministry of Internal Affairs. When flying with a transfer, the weapon must be re-registered.
Weapon simulators are not allowed to be transported in the aircraft cabin. They must be checked in as baggage.
For the carriage of firearms, it is necessary to coordinate it with the carrier no more than 36 hours before the flight departure time. To check in for a flight, a passenger transporting weapons must arrive 1.5 hours before departure.
Transportation of musical instruments
On Aeroflot aircraft, musical instruments can be transported both in the aircraft cabin and in baggage.
- In the cabin - the weight of the tool should not exceed 80 kg, and the dimensions should correspond to the dimensions of 135x50x30. In this case, the rules for carrying baggage carried in the passenger seat apply.
- In the luggage compartment, the general rules for the carriage of checked and excess baggage apply.
For the carriage of musical instruments, prior agreement with the airline is required no later than 36 hours before the flight departure.
Wheelchair, pram, guide dog
A wheelchair, pram and guide dog are carried on Aeroflot aircraft free of charge if used by a passenger.
In addition to a wheelchair, you can carry a special-purpose wheelchair free of charge. For transportation of a large wheelchair powered by batteries and weighing more than 32 kg, an agreement with the carrier is required no more than 36 hours before the flight departure.

How many kilograms can I carry with Aeroflot?
Carry 23 kilograms in a suitcase that will fly in the luggage compartment, and you can take another 10 kilograms into the cabin. So an economy class ticket for an Aeroflot plane includes 33 free kilograms.
Be careful, since February 2018, additional control of the amount of things has been introduced at check-in and when boarding the plane, employees will check the size, weight and number of bags. Everything will be screened: hand luggage, things in the cabin, suitcases checked in as luggage. If the norm is exceeded, they will calculate how much to pay for the excess. And if they refuse, they threaten to refuse transportation.
Aeroflot measures luggage not in kilograms, but in pieces - pack your things in one suitcase. And for hand luggage there are size restrictions (more on them below). But if all your things together weigh less than 10 kilograms, the number of bags will not be counted.
Hand luggage on an Aeroflot plane
Take one small suitcase measuring 55x40x25 centimeters to the salon. Make sure that only allowed items are inside and that the dimensions are respected. If the dimensions are exceeded, the bag will be sent to the luggage compartment, and you will be charged a surcharge.
During February 2018, Aeroflot twice changed the requirements for the size of hand luggage on the plane: the original 55x40x20 centimeters have now been replaced by dimensions of 55x40x25 centimeters - this is a cabin size suitcase.

Aeroflot: what can and cannot be carried in baggage and taken in hand luggage
Do not take any poisons, weapons, toxic or dangerous substances on the plane. Strong alcohol is not allowed on the plane, and no more than 5 liters per passenger will be accepted into the luggage compartment. This does not apply to sealed drinks from Duty Free. Aerosol deodorant, hairspray and other sprays - pack in a suitcase, they will not let you into the salon. And it’s better to replace it with dry and liquid analogues or buy it already on the spot.
Take a thermometer, a blood pressure monitor, 2 kilograms of dry ice, a disposable lighter and 100 ml of hydrogen peroxide in hand luggage - of course, if any of this is needed.

Take musical instruments up to 135 cm in hand luggage at no extra charge. You can take the guitar to the salon, regardless of size, the main thing is to inform about it 36 hours in advance. True, apart from the tool, hand luggage is not allowed, the rest will have to be sent in luggage.

Aeroflot lost luggage, what to do
- keep your flight documents: boarding pass and baggage tag stub;
- without leaving the arrivals area, fill out the form at the Lost service
- on the Aeroflot website, track the status by the number of the wanted application;
- call the warehouse of unidentified things at the airport of arrival;
- wait 21 days checking status;
- on the 22nd day, hand over the documents to the nearest office: luggage tag stub, list of things with value, application for damages and do not forget your contact details.
