The first peak of the mass enthusiasm for camping and car tourism in West Germany came at the time of the post-war economic miracle, when federal citizens together on their new wheels went to get acquainted with the beauties of Italy or the Scandinavian countries. The main mobile symbol of this phenomenon was the legendary "Bull" (VW Bulli) - a Volkswagen minibus. He was loved by both respectable German burghers and hippies of all countries and peoples.
East Germans, in turn, not only for lack of other alternatives, but also in view of obvious natural advantages, chose the Baltic Sea, as well as, for example, the friendly shores of the Hungarian Lake Balaton, where they traveled on their plastic "Trabants" (Trabant) and other henchmen means.
