D.MEDVEDEV:

Our army is changing now, and, despite the fact that any changes are difficult, they are necessary. Because we understand: if we cannot make our Armed Forces modern and effective, more combat-ready, better armed, if officers receive money that does not motivate them to work normally, then we will not have normal defense. Therefore, everything that is being done now is aimed at creating a modern and effective Armed Forces. There are both problems and good solutions, I am monitoring this personally as Supreme Commander-in-Chief and intend to continue to do so.

At the same time I would like to greet our new comrades who received new appointments, namely appointment of commander of the Western Military District, Colonel General Bakhin Arkady Viktorovich and the commander of the Eastern Military District, Admiral Sidenko Konstantin Semenovich. I wish you success in your new duty station.

This new place was created in accordance with the decisions that were made by me as Supreme Commander-in-Chief, taking into account the new structure of command of the Armed Forces.

Mr. Ambassador, how do you assess the significance of the visit of the Russian ship to the Republic of Greece to participate in events dedicated to the next anniversary of the Battle of Navarino? Why is it important for Greece and Russia?

The arrival of a Russian warship in Pylos is a big holiday for Greeks and Russians. This visit is dedicated to our common victory in the historical Battle of Navarino in 1827, which opened the way to independence for the Greek people. The battle, in which the navies of Russia, France and Great Britain took part, is a historical example of how the goals of the international community are achieved as a result of cooperation. Now we also have a common goal - the fight against international terrorism - and we believe that we must again be together with Greece, which we congratulate on its election to non-permanent members of the UN Security Council, together with Great Britain and France, together with all those who our ideals are dear and who sees international terrorism as our common enemy.

How does the Greek side perceive the arrival of the Russian ship?

For the Greeks this is a holiday, our common holiday. And when our sailors come, having already visited many places in Greece, it is always a reason for joint celebrations, for joint laying of wreaths in memory of those who died for the freedom of Greece. And most importantly, this is a reason to look into the future, where, we can say with confidence, Russia and Greece have a lot in common.

Every year the geography of visits of Russian ships to Greek ports expands. Will calls to new Greek ports be planned in the future?

We are currently discussing this issue with military attache Igor Kostyukov. I think, since many Greek cities and ports have become places of visit for our fleet, this will not be the end of the matter. Russian sailors are highly respected in Greece and are always greeted warmly.

Mr. Attache, the development of relations between the Greek Navy and the Russian Navy is on the rise. What impact does this have on the Greek and Russian sides?

It is gratifying to note that in recent years the interaction between our countries has moved from a theoretical plane to a practical one. Last year, joint exercises were held between Greek and Russian ships. Let these be training events at a simple level, for example, on joint maneuvering. But they marked the beginning of interaction in other areas. Plus, Greece is the only country in the North Atlantic Alliance that has Russian ships in service. This also should not be discounted. Therefore, we have interaction both in the training of Greek specialists and in the exchange of experience in operating the Zubr air-cushion landing ships. There are four ships of this class in the Greek Navy. In addition, there are a number of other events. Serious relationship development is underway. Of course, we would like more, but we will act gradually.

Greece is an active member of NATO. Does Greece have problems with the NATO command due to the fact that Russian warships regularly call at Greek ports and conduct joint military exercises?

No, they don't arise. In addition, if there is a need to quickly obtain consent from the Greek authorities to conduct any joint events, we obtain it thanks to a constructive approach. Even more complex problems are being solved; for example, we very quickly received permission to park Russian warships near Mount Athos. I am not afraid to repeat, the level of relations with the Greek side allows us to hope for good and long-term cooperation between our countries in various fields.

Ceremony of transfer of the repaired nuclear submarine "Kuzbass" to the Pacific Fleet March 21st, 2016

The original was taken from a colleague smitsmitty in The ceremony of handing over the repaired nuclear submarine "Kuzbass" to the Pacific Fleet

On March 19, the K-419 Kuzbass nuclear cruiser was handed over after repairs at the deep-sea pier of the Far Eastern Zvezda plant in Bolshoy Kamen. The submarine was received by the leadership of the Pacific Fleet, headed by the commander, Admiral Sergei Avakyants. It is symbolic that the ceremony dedicated to the completion of a large order is timed to coincide with Submariner Day.

Representatives of the Pacific Fleet, plant management and ordinary plant workers, top officials of Rosneft (the consortium is implementing a shipbuilding project in Bolshoy Kamen), veterans of the submarine fleet, regional officials and deputies and, of course, the crew of the submarine gathered on the deep-sea pier. The submarine itself stood at the pier, decorated with colorful flags.
1.

The acceptance certificate was signed directly on the pier by the director of the Far Eastern plant “Zvezda” Yuri Filchenok and acting. commander for armaments of the Pacific Fleet, Rear Admiral Igor Korolev. And he confirmed the act personally Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Sergei Avakyants.
2.

“Today is a significant event. For the first time in a long time, the submarine will leave the dock. It will perform critical tasks in fleet operations,” Avakyants said. “We see how the ship repair and shipbuilding base is rising. Over the course of several years, the plant has been revived, is developing and has all the capacity to ensure the readiness of the Pacific Fleet’s nuclear submarine fleet.”
3.

The submarine has been on the list of Navy ships since 1989, and in 1992 it was reclassified as a nuclear-powered cruising submarine.
4.

In 1993, the boat received the name “Walrus”, and has had its current name, “Kuzbass,” since 1998.
5.

Since 2009, it has undergone major repairs and modernization at Zvezda. Some of the equipment on it was replaced with modern analogues, and the crew cabins were also repaired.
6.

Control sea trials took place in early March. Until Navy Day, the Kuzbass will stay in Primorye, and after that it will go to its permanent location in Krasheninnikov Bay (port of Vilyuchinsk) in Kamchatka.
7.

General Director of the plant Yuri Filchenok thanked the subcontractors, designers who worked on board the ship along with Zvezda employees, as well as the crew.
8.

“For a long time we carried out work on the hull and repair of system mechanisms. Factory testing has been going on since February. Our employees - specialists from all over the country - participated in the repair! Today it is completed, and the ship will serve in the fleet for a long time. We can vouch for the quality and provide a guarantee.”
9.

At the end of his speech, Filchenok presented the Kuzbass commander with a memorable gift from the plant. Another gift, an icon and a souvenir, was presented by the vice-president of the consortium, Andrei Shishkin, on behalf of Rosneft President Igor Sechin.
10.

Head of the regional Legislative Assembly Viktor Gorchakov: “This is a good gift for Submariner’s Day. We remember the difficult 90s. We are especially grateful to the veterans who preserved the integrity and staff of the plant... When the first submarines were built in St. Petersburg, the problem arose - how to transport them to the Far East. It became obvious that our own base here is simply necessary.”
11.

Chairman of the Union of Submariners, Vice Admiral Alexander Konev: “Today is a wonderful day - the 110th anniversary of the Russian submarine forces. We are proud that the submarine forces of the Pacific Fleet are being replenished with new ships. Thus, the submarine "Alexander Nevsky" passed under the ice from the Northern Fleet."
12.

A total of 119 people received anniversary awards today.19.

The next nuclear-powered rocket ship is scheduled to launch on March 5. According to forecasts, at the end of this year the nuclear submarine Ryazan will go on combat duty at Zvezda after a long period of repairs.
20.

I already showed the Kuzbass nuclear submarine once during Dmitry Medvedev’s visit to the plant:

-November 12, 2011 - A new hydrographic vessel of the Pacific Fleet “Viktor Faleev” was launched in Vladivostok

April 29, 2013 - “Askold” and “Posyet” “felt” the smell of the sea: unique ships left the shipyard of the Zvezda plant

August 7, 2014. The border patrol ship "Sapphire" was launched in Vladivostok

Since 2011, a project for the construction of a shipbuilding complex has been implemented in Bolshoy Kamen. Tankers, gas carriers, ice-class vessels, elements of offshore platforms and much more will be built here. The cost of the project is 111.7 billion rubles.

The first stage is now in full swing and will be implemented before 2015. An open horizontal slipway will be built here (an environmental assessment report will be ready for it in December), a block of hull processing production, and two cranes with a lifting capacity of 1200 and 320 tons will be installed...

Life of “Zvezda”: the largest ship repair plant turns 60 years old

The Far Eastern Zvezda plant, located in the coastal closed administrative town of Bolshoi Kamen, today, December 3, celebrates its 60th anniversary.

Today, at the Zvezda Far Eastern Plant, which is part of the Far Eastern Shipbuilding and Ship Repair Center, warships of the Pacific Fleet are being repaired and modernized, and nuclear submarines are being dismantled. At the same time, a shipyard is being built on the territory of the Bolshekamensk enterprise, which will become one of the largest in Russia.
