From above you can see where the best viewing platforms are. Observation deck "Sparrow Hills" Opening of the observation deck

To explore a city (or a specific area), you don’t always need to spend several days. It is enough to climb to a high point, where all the surroundings will appear in full view. Observation platforms that open all over the world have long become such points.

A magnificent panorama of the area from a bird's eye view - what could be more breathtaking? If you are not afraid of the upper floors, you will definitely like this type of entertainment.

We have collected 10 of the most impressive observation decks in the world.

Grand Canyon Skywalk, USA

Skywalk is a unique observation deck that looks like a huge horseshoe. It seems to float in the air at an altitude of 1200 meters and protrudes 20 meters above the abyss of the Grand Canyon.

If you dare to open your eyes, you can see the Martian panorama of the Canyon under your feet.

The floor and walls of the observation deck are made of thick, durable glass, and to avoid scratching them, tourists put on socks before entering. The designers claim that the structure can bear a weight of up to 70 tons. If you dare to open your eyes, you can see the Martian panorama of the Canyon under your feet.

Taipei 101, Taiwan

The 106-story Taipei 101 tower reaches a height of 509 meters and is one of the tallest skyscrapers in the world. This Asian miracle was created for seven whole years, starting in 1997. On the lower floors of the tower there is a shopping center and restaurants, and on the upper level there is an observation deck, which offers a wonderful view of the city and the immediate surroundings. The site is unique in that it is located on the street, and for a skyscraper this is quite a rare case.

Observation deck in Iguazu Park, Brazil

The Iguazu Park waterfall complex is located on the border of Brazil and Argentina. And in the middle of the water element and lush tropical greenery there is a unique observation bridge.

Dachstein Sky Walk, Austria

This observation deck is also called the “balcony in the Alps.” The site is firmly built into the sheer Hunerkogel rock and offers an incredible 360-degree view of the snow-capped Alps. From the observation deck there is a fantastic view of the sights of Moscow: the building of the Academy of Sciences, the Ostankino Tower, the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, Moscow State University named after M.V. Lomonosov, Vysotka on Kudrinskaya, Novodevichy Convent and others.

Which site would you visit?

Vorobyovy Gory is a forested area on the high right bank of the Moscow River and one of the favorite vacation spots of Muscovites. Vorobyovy Gory is considered one of the seven hills of Moscow; the largest observation deck in the capital is located here, which offers amazing views of the surrounding area. You will see the beautiful bend of the Moscow River, the Kremlin towers and the Luzhniki Stadium, on the right - Neskuchny Garden, on the left - the Novodevichy Convent.

According to tradition, newlyweds come here on their wedding day, and in the evenings friends with similar interests, including bikers and street racers, gather here. A vintage car show is periodically held here.

Those who prefer peace and solitude can go deep into the green area and take a walk through the forest, as well as along the ponds located closer to Neskuchny Garden. Vorobyovy Gory is located near the center of Moscow - 5.5 km from the Kremlin. At the same time, despite the global development, untouched areas of pure forest with old large trees that have survived more than one century have been preserved here.

A pedestrian zone of the Moscow River with a length of about 10 km passes through the territory of the forest park, including the Krymskaya and Pushkinskaya, Andreevskaya and Vorobyovskaya embankments.

In spring and summer, you can rent a bicycle or roller skates on Vorobyovy Gory. Rental points are located on the embankment near the funicular and next to the exit to Vorobyovskoye Highway.

How to get to Vorobyovy Gory, metro station

  • By metro - Vorobyovy Gory station, Frunzenskaya and Universitet metro stations are also nearby.

For those who come by car, there are parking spaces next to the observation deck on Kosygina Street, opposite the Moscow State University building and near the intersection of Kosygina Street and Vernadsky Avenue.

Sparrow Hills - observation deck

The observation deck is located at the very top of the Sparrow Hills, at the intersection of Kosygina Street and University Square. Telescopes are installed here, and their use is free. The opening panorama of Moscow fascinates with its harsh beauty and slight haze over the city.

Near the observation deck, as well as on the embankment, there are cafes where you can have a snack.

From the observation deck you can go down to the embankment on foot, and in the summer, by funicular, located on the right side of the observation deck (if you look at Moscow). The funicular will take you to the embankment or to the pier; there is also a stop at the intermediate station. From the pier you can board a boat and go on a trip along the Moscow River.

  • According to legend, in this place there was a village that belonged to a priest named Sparrow, hence the origin of the name of this area becomes clear. Later, this village was acquired by Princess Sophia, the wife of Moscow Grand Duke Vasily I
  • For several decades, the Sparrow Hills were called the Lenin Hills, but the exact year of the renaming has not been established; three dates are given: 1924, 1935 and 1936. In 1999, the area was returned to its historical name
  • In the 18th-19th centuries there was a transit prison on Vorobyovy Gory, as Alexander Herzen wrote about in his novel “The Past and Thoughts” in 1868.
  • Initially, the Cathedral of Christ the Savior was planned to be located on the Sparrow Hills. The project was developed and approved and construction began. But over the next seven years, work was carried out sluggishly, and soon stopped completely. According to the official version, due to the unreliability of the soil, the construction of the temple was stopped. At the same time, it turned out that a million rubles from the money allocated for the construction of the cathedral were embezzled. The construction managers were accused of embezzlement and embezzlement and put on trial. The author of the project, Vitberg, was innocently convicted and sent into exile
  • During its history, Sparrow Hills several times became a viewing platform for conquerors - from here the Crimean Khan Kazy-Girey and the Polish Hetman Khotkevich looked at the capital. And in the October days of 1917, from the high bank of the Moscow River, the Red Guards began shelling the Kremlin.

Vorobyovy Gory – ecological trail

Vorobyovy Gory is a unique ecological zone with a special topography, there are many springs, picturesque landscapes and excellent breathing. The ecological trail was opened in 2005 and became the first ecological trail in Moscow. It is equipped with information stands and signs telling about the flora and fauna of the forest park.

The forest zone is inhabited by voles, moles and squirrels, and birds include falcons and blackbirds, nightingales and warblers, duckweeds and white wagtails, woodpeckers and mallards, tits and blue tits. Along one of the ponds there are gazebos where you can relax and shelter from the rain. Descriptions of the plants and animals encountered are presented at special stands.

There are feeders for small birds and squirrels, protected by a net from large birds. If desired, the inhabitants of the forest can be fed with grain and nuts.

You can walk along the ecological trail on your own; the ascent to it begins from Vorobyovskaya embankment, 100 meters from the cable car. Excursions along ecological trails are held year-round; on weekdays from 8-00 to 17-00 they are free. It is better to sign up for an excursion in advance, since there are many people who want to take it in the summer. Excursion routes:

  • The route “On the Slopes of the Sparrow Hills” starts from the Observation Deck and consists of the section “Slopes of the Sparrow Hills” with a length of 550 meters and the “Andreevsky Ponds” with a length of 220 meters. At the very beginning of the eco-route there is an aviary complex with rare ornamental birds, including pheasants and peacocks, as well as an aviary with squirrels and a demonstration aviary with birds of prey
  • The route “On the terraces of Vorobyovy Gory”, 740 meters long, begins at the Vorobyovy Gory metro station. This trail is accessible to everyone as it is adapted for people with reduced mobility. On the route you will come across the “Guess the Tree” and “Animal Traces” stands, as well as St. Andrew’s Ponds, where you can feed the ducks.

Of course, entrance to the temple itself and the temple museum is free, but you will have to pay for the excursion, as well as for going up to the observation deck. Restored in 1997, the monumental building attracts with its size and scope, but do not be deluded: observation platforms (not one, but four) are located between the bell towers of the temple at an altitude of only 40 meters. However, despite the relatively low height, it offers an almost box-like view of the Moscow Kremlin, Crimean Bridge, Poklonnaya Hill and New Arbat.

When visiting, you should pay special attention to the weather conditions - with low clouds or fog, there is a risk of not seeing anything. From here you can completely see the building of the television center, the building of Moscow State University on Vorobyovy Gory, Moscow City and Luzhniki. There are also a number of restrictions when visiting this observation deck: children under 12 years old, people with mobility problems and pregnant women are not allowed.

The bar, which resembles a flying saucer landing on the roof of a skyscraper, has a 360-degree view. This means that most of Moscow is clearly visible. Surprisingly, even the high-rise building on Kotelnicheskaya Embankment doesn’t seem like such a colossus from here. The hotel building is located almost in the city center.

Hotel "Radisson Royal" (formerly "Ukraine")

Height: 120 meters
Address: metro station "Kyiv" or "Arbatskaya", Kutuzovsky Prospekt, 2/1

The walls of the complex are lined with marble, porcelain stoneware and travertine, and the total height of the building with its spire is 264.1 meters.

Observation deck on the roof of the Central Children's Store

Price: for free

The open observation deck is located on the roof of the Central Children's Store on Lubyanka and, despite its novelty, has already become one of the most popular observation platforms in Moscow. Unlike many other viewpoints that offer a view of the center of the capital from the outside, the observation deck of the Central Children's Museum allows you to see it from a slightly different angle - from the inside.

An excellent view opens onto Lubyanka Square and the buildings that frame it: the complex of buildings of the FSB of Russia on Lubyanka Square (including the building of the state security agencies on Lubyanka and the gray administrative building across the road), the Polytechnic Museum, the Nautilus shopping center (one of the brightest representatives of the “Luzhkov style” ) and others. Also, the observation deck on the roof of the Central Children's Store allows you to see the Metropol and Moscow hotels, the Swissotel Red Hills skyscraper, many churches and bell towers and endless residential neighborhoods to the very horizon.

Observation deck next to the Russian Academy of Sciences

Address: Leninsky Prospekt, 32Ас1
Price: for free
The most unknown. The view is similar to Vorobyovy Gory, but a little from the side.
Unfortunately, it has one big drawback: in the recent past, the section of the Andreevskaya embankment of the Moscow River right in front of the observation deck was built up with low-rise buildings, and the view was greatly deteriorated due to their roofs. However, it is still one of the most impressive public views of the city.

Zaryadye Floating Bridge

Address: Varvarka street, 6с2
Price: for free
The newest one. Excellent view of the high-rise building on Kotelnicheskaya embankment.

The capital of our Motherland, Moscow, is beautiful from a bird's eye view. There are many observation platforms in the city, the most modern of which is located on the 56th floor of the Empire skyscraper in Moscow City. Numerous travel agencies offer excursions to the top, but you can get there on your own without booking an excursion. We will tell you how to get to the Moscow City observation deck in the next article.

Moscow City

Moscow City is a place that many people love for its high-tech style and the image of a modern metropolis. It’s true, being on the territory of this city of glass and concrete, you can’t believe that you are in Russia, and not in Chicago or Hong Kong. Social networks are full of photographs against the backdrop of Moscow skyscrapers. Many people think that when they go up to the observation deck of a skyscraper, they will see something special. But is it?

When can you get to the Moscow City observation deck?

You can get to the observation deck with a tour from the agency (prices from 1000 rubles) or come to the Empire Tower on your own and purchase a ticket to the observation deck for 700 rubles. If you arrive in the morning on the weekend, you can save money and rise to the heavens for only 500 rubles (check for details). This amount includes the excursion.
Before visiting the Moscow City observation deck, we recommend that you first study the opening hours of the observation deck.
You can get to the lookout on weekends from 10 to 22. On weekdays, the lookout is open from 18 to 22. The ascent at 22 is made without a guide. Tours run every hour. But it's better if you check the details on the official website of the observation deck in the City, you never know!

How to find the Empire Tower, where the Moscow City observation deck is located

The observation deck in the City is located in the Empire Tower.
Finding it is quite easy.
The first thing we need is to get to the Vystavochnaya metro station or the Delovoy Tsentr metro station. Next, from the metro follow the signs to the Bagration Bridge. You don't need to go to the bridge itself, that is, we have to stay on this side of the river.

If you arrive by car, keep in mind that parking at the City is paid (100 rubles per hour, specific opening hours - on weekdays from 20-00, on weekends from 11 am). In general, you shouldn't come here by car.

This is the diagram posted on the official website. As you can see, you can reach the Empire Tower through the second floor of Avimola, but in our opinion it is easier to do this from the Bagration Bridge.

Towards the City

As you move, you will see a security booth with the sign Empire Tower.

Security guard

We turn right and approach the skyscrapers. Visually, the Empire looks like this: oval and green. If you look up, your head may involuntarily spin.

Skyscrapers

On your right hand you will have the Evolution Tower, twisted in a spiral (you are in the wrong place), and on your left - the Empire Tower.

Empire Tower

Feel free to come in and go to the reception desk. This is where you can buy tickets for the climb. By the way, ticket prices are steep - adults cost 700 rubles, children 400 rubles. Children under 7 years old are free.

By the way, on the first floor of the Empire there is an interesting art object - a huge watering can camera. There are usually a lot of people wanting to take pictures.

Camera Leica

We are waiting for the group and take the high-speed elevator to the 56th floor. I recommend that you stock up on candy or chewing gum when you go up the elevator - it really hurts your ears.

What will we see on the City observation deck?

You've probably already rolled out your lip, took a selfie stick with you, and hope that your photos will get a lot of likes... But don't be fooled! The Empire Tower is surrounded on all sides by skyscrapers, so you can only see anything from one side of the Empire.

Entrance to the Observation Deck

All the beautiful photographs that are shown to us in the booklets were taken by professional photographers with a zoom of at least 200 mm.
Why are we paying this kind of money? Well, here's what: the guide will tell you about the construction of Moscow City, what the original idea for the complex was and what is happening now, and will demonstrate the features on the model. The story is interesting. They will tell you a little about what is to the left and right of the skyscraper.

Moscow City is fashionable. There is practically no one here over 45 years old.

Moscow City layout

So-so layout, only children like it.

At the lookout

The rest of the time you will walk around the unfinished room with concrete ceilings and, if you are lucky, you will see some small exhibition at the top.

There are skyscrapers all around, you can even see the sunset like this.

Or like this.

As in the famous song “Skyscrapers, skyscrapers, and I’m so small.”

Alternative views of Moscow City

In our opinion, a much more picturesque observation deck on the City is located on the opposite bank. Of course, you won’t see Moscow from a bird’s eye view, but the view of the skyscraper complex is fabulous. Particularly spectacular shots can be taken in the evening or morning. It's always crowded here, but there's enough space for everyone.

Moscow City in the evening

Moscow City in the evening

Perhaps it makes sense to go up to the Moscow City observation deck once to form your own opinion. But we noticed a more interesting pastime for ourselves on Presnenskaya Embankment - a boat trip, the pier of which is located near the same Bagration Bridge. Tickets are sold in the lobby at the entrance to the bridge from the City side; one of the ticket offices is located near the Tree of Life sculpture.
Personally, I like the view of the City better than the view from it!
