Fresh impressions.
For the sake of a review for this hotel, I finally decided to register. There are a lot of emotions, and they are all stormy! But in order not to strain the reader with non-literary statements, I will simply describe everything in order.
So. My wife and I have already been to Bulgaria and, in principle, we liked it. We had a baby and after some thought it was decided to spend another vacation in Bulgaria. We were looking for a quiet place where two parents and 10 months. it will be convenient and comfortable for the baby to relax. After talking with travel agents and studying the Internet, the choice fell on the city of Obzor and specifically on this hotel. According to all the descriptions, reviews and recommendations, this is almost the most suitable place in Bulgaria for families with young children.
Now the actual description is true back to front.
1) City. Very small, rather a village, which has grown into the city due to mini-hotels. One main street, it is a road through the city and dozens of small streets. I walked the whole city in 1 hour. Discovered: 1 supermarket (ala a penny), 3-4 minimarkets, 10 pieces of absolutely mini-markets, 3 pharmacies (there are almost no "Russian" medicines in pharmacies!), 2 banks, 1 post office, 1.5 places with attractions and hundreds of tents selling all sorts of monotonous junk (as a result, 70% of relatives were left without their usual souvenirs from our holiday). Pedestrian roads are generally not intended for wheelchair riding, so most of the way they had to dance along the potholes of the roadway. I am not an esthete, but we had nowhere to go for a walk with the child. Further. Baby food and diapers only in supermarkets and pharmacies. Food is local and Hipp, only Pampers diapers! We don’t wear diapers, and therefore the child was tormented by the whole vacation. She refused to eat Bulgarian purees and porridge altogether (hipp a priori was always considered inedible) and lived only on her mother's breast. So expect to take diapers and food with you)). Everything seems to be about the city.
2) Beach. The beach is full of bullshit! The sand is certainly good, but nothing more. There are a lot of cigarette butts and other rubbish in this sand. The only one who cleaned it up was a crazy rescuer (about him a little later) and that, naturally, without enthusiasm. The child was poking around in the sand every now and then, fishing out something from there and stuffing it into his mouth. Half of the umbrellas are broken. The sun beds seem to be whole. The mattresses on the sun loungers are a third torn, and half are made of some kind of blue burlap and after lying on it even for 5 minutes, blue paint was found on itself (so towels are needed 2 times more than hotel towels). On peak days, the beach was flooded with heaps of "non-regular" vacationers with or without their umbrellas. As a result, we had two disappearances while we went swimming! Sellers of some pretzels, corn and ice cream periodically ply along the beach, about which they reported loudly! In addition, there was still a half-witted lifeguard running around and constantly whistling and yelling if someone entered the sea further than 10 meters !!! Those. in his opinion, you can swim only where the depth is up to your chest and then when there are no waves! From his point of view, for 18 days of our vacation, only 1.5 were with a green flag, the rest were either yellow or red. Moreover, the real storm was only twice a day! Oh yes. Payment for the beach is made at the reception at 3 BGN per day per person, calculated for the entire duration of your stay. For 102 levs, we received two gray bracelets, instead of a pink one, and were almost happy.
3) The sea. This is complete kashmariya and horror! Everything would be fine, but in the immediate vicinity of the hotel (this can be seen even in some of its photographs if you look closely) there is a certain reservoir, which the hotel staff call a small river. This is not a river! Even during sightseeing tour around the city, somewhere far from the hotel, I crossed this "river" and noticed that it completely lacks the movement of water characteristic of rivers and smells of some suspicious rotten stuff from it. So, this "river", every two or three days, suddenly suddenly began to pour out into the sea, carrying there stormy streams of terribly stinking dark gray stuff, and as a result, everyone, absolutely everyone who swims in the sea begins to suffer from various intestinal disorders !! ! The previous speaker referred to the canteen (otherwise, their local restaurant does not even dare to name it, but more on that later), but it's all about the sea! We were all sick in turn for 10 days! Temperatures from 34 to 39 degrees, diarrhea, vomiting, wild aches of the whole body, constantly doctors, tons of expensive medicines! And all this continued until it suddenly dawned on me that this was the sea! The remaining 8 days of pool recreation were calm. According to conversations with a few Russian-speaking tourists (of which half are Germans), everyone was also terribly ill, although the poor fellows thought it was either a canteen or a rotavirus. But I repeat that after the rejection of the sea in our family, all diseases stopped! Something like this with their sea.
4) Hotel (no dining room). The hotel itself is clearly on 4K, no more, no less. I will not paint for a long time, a few nuances, if someone still goes to this hotel. Internet. There is a certain room where 15 minutes 1 lev or something like that. Alternatively, Wi-Fi in the lobby for 20 leva for the entire period. You have to pay in the same room where 15 minutes is 1 lev, and not where the internet room is written. The staff is friendly but barely in Russian. Explained in English, otherwise it is unrealistic to achieve even. Drinking water at the reception on request. The rooms are not bad, everything is there. The safe seemed a little expensive to me. The shower and the toilet are ok, except that there is no curtain in the shower, the first time they collected water for a long time, then they got used to it. Lifts are figous with them, be careful, they can slightly press down with suddenly closing doors. Housekeeping is mediocre (whether you tip or not). The balcony was never cleaned, by the end of the rest it was not possible to walk on it. Condey, in our room, he was full of energy around the clock and it was quite warm. The pool is small and the sun loungers are already occupied by 8 am. Something like this.
5) Dining room (aka restaurant). This is a swan song of the "sea" type! Breakfast: 4 types of scrambled eggs, boiled eggs, bacon, sausages, beans in sauce, toast, a bunch of breads, vegetables, one cheese, several slices of sausage and meat, all kinds of cereals and types of preserves. Nothing has ever changed. Lunch: all the same vegetables, 2-3 salads, 2-3 salted or pickled nonsense, French fries, boiled or fried and artificial puree, pasta, 1 fish, 2-3 meats, "pizza" and we can even more. The current hot dishes were changed and even then not often. Dinner. The same as lunch only hot for 1-2 more. From the pleasant - only coffee in a coffee pot is brought to each table during breakfast by the waiter (or not). Drinking: all sorts of forfeits, etc., tip-juices (yuppies were even better in their time), beer, white and red wine. And now the most important thing! There is everything that was IMPOSSIBLE! All food is either absolutely tasteless, or disgustingly fried, or spoiled (with a smell)! Each trip to the canteen was accompanied by a slight gag reflex and a long search for what you can eat here! Frankly, I'm a culinary esthete, but even in the worst shovel canteen I've ever met, the food was better!
We did not use the themed restaurant (you can go by appointment once for the whole rest). I don’t know about food in the city, except that it stinks and it looks about the same.
Oh yes, I almost forgot, the ice cream there is delicious and my wife also said that sweets (cakes, etc.) are quite edible.
6) I can’t say anything about animation, because it’s not yet old enough for us, I only know that the music has never changed for 18 days, but it’s almost everywhere like that.
My opinion is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to rest in this hotel and is dangerous to health.

Reviews of tourists on the hotel Riu Helios Bay

Review written by Svetlana 01 July 2017.

We were in Bulgaria for the first time. In general, we had a great rest, although we were half lucky with the weather Standart room very cozy, large and clean, the view towards the beach is picturesque. The staff is very friendly and attentive. Internet is only at the reception. There is enough food, it is varied, but not tasty. Very salty and overcooked in old rancid oil, so meat and fish were very bitter. The current season at this hotel starts on June 24th, so I recommend checking in from now.

The hotel is one of the best in Obzor !! Excellent location. Great rooms. In fact, he pulls 5 * !! As for food, it is one of the best in Bulgaria! There are many Europeans. I can recommend this hotel to absolutely everyone. People who are vacationing with families, with small children, with friends, and everyone, everyone.

Had a rest with my wife and child (4 years old) in this hotel in the second half of July 2016. At the reception they were greeted with smiles and a drink (non-alcoholic). The girls tried to speak Russian, but it turned out badly, they switched to English. We arrived at about 8 o'clock. We were settled around 13 o'clock. The room is quite spacious, clean, a huge double bed, a small cot for a child and a wonderful sea view! On the spacious balcony there is a small table and two armchairs. The room was cleaned daily and efficiently. Linen was changed every three days. Once they made a turtle out of a towel and tied the curtains with a beautiful bow, but at the same time they forgot to clean the room). The restaurant is spacious. Always were free places both inside and on the open terrace. The menu is very varied. It is definitely impossible to leave hungry. At least two types ...

A family of 4 and a family of 2 rested from August 4, 2015 to August 13, 2015. The impressions are the best. The voucher was bought at Biblio Globus. At the Varna airport we were met by a minibus with 6 seats and taken directly to the hotel. At the reception we were greeted by friendly girls (speak Russian), treated us with wine and provided rooms. The rooms are very spacious. Linen and towels are changed every day. Near the hotel there is entertainment areas with carousels for children. There are many shops with souvenirs and clothes. There is a supercarriage. The sea is nearby, sunbeds are free. Separately, I want to say about food, we have not seen such a variety and quality for a long time (although we have rested many times in other resorts and in different countries) a variety of meat, fish products, as well as many different fruits and excellent ...

Were in this hotel with children 3 and 11 years old! We were fed well and varied! the room was spacious with a large bed and a sofa for children + there was a cot! But we didn't need it _ large floor-to-ceiling windows delighted us with the morning landscape of the sea!

There are few Russians in the hotel (very few) from this the staff is certainly not Russian-speaking, but everyone tried to understand and help us. The girl at the reception is Russian-speaking and the bartender - we didn't need it anymore!

All liked it!

Thank you!

We had a rest since 07/05/2015. until 12.07.2015. I liked the hotel very much. Rooms are spacious, almost all with sea views. We had a room with a river view. We haven't felt any smell for a week.
The food is varied. There are both grilled dishes and dietary ones (steam dishes, cereals). Fresh orange juice was given every 2 days in the morning. In the evenings, cocktails based on fresh juice were made for the children. Every day there was fish (during the week they were given both salmon and tuna). There were sausages too, but we didn't take them. My daughter is very picky about food, she always found something to eat. I advise you to try the pizza margarita. The children had the opportunity to take ice cream all day.
The restaurant requires men to come to dinner in long pants and with their shoulders covered. To Nika's women ...

We rested together with a 13-year-old child. I really wanted to go to the Black Sea, so we chose Bulgaria. General impressions from the country are very good. Everything is very nice, people are friendly and in general there is a constant feeling of peace. From the very beginning we decided that we wanted a quiet rest. Sea, sun, air. We chose the quiet town of Obzor.
The hotel itself is very beautiful, stands right on the seashore. The hotel area is small, but everything is very reasonably arranged. Everything is unusually clean. Moreover, there were practically no girls with buckets and mops to be seen. It seemed that everything was removed by itself. Everything is cozy. Despite the fact that the hotel is quite large, no hustle and bustle, it was always possible to sit comfortably in any bar. There is internet in the lobby, we paid 20 leva in two weeks and got constant access. The staff are endlessly friendly. We are Russian-speaking, but we did not feel any discomfort or division along ethnic lines. Even with those staff who do not understand Russian, it was always possible to come to an agreement. And always and everyone treats you with respect and a smile.
We got the room in the wing, which is closer to the sea, on the 4th floor. The room was corner, a huge balcony. We constantly heard the sea and it felt like we were living right on the beach. The room itself is very cozy. Regardless of the tip, the cleaning was great. The maid constantly made us all kinds of towels. Or put flowers in a vase. A trifle, but nice. And we did not leave a tip for better cleaning, but simply as a token of gratitude. Bed linen, towels were changed regularly. Towels - every day, bed linen every three days. Once we (the piglets) poured cola on the bed, so we changed it right away, without expressing any dissatisfaction. Again, all with a smile. The room has a safe for an additional fee, a TV with a Russian channel, a small refrigerator. The minibar needs to be asked to be filled, but it is paid. Water in any quantity could be obtained without any problems at the reception, it did not bother us at all.
As for the food, everything, in my opinion, is organized very reasonably. For breakfast and lunch, one could sit at any table, but dinner was organized in two shifts. We chose the second one at 20.30. For dinner, a table is assigned to you for the entire period. There was an opportunity to choose a place that you like. Very comfortably. The food is excellent. There are no such self-assembled tablecloths as in Turkey (where it is not recommended to eat half of the offered food). There was always fish, hot and cold, for lunch and dinner. Be sure to every time meat and chicken, meat and beef, veal, lamb, pork. A lot of all kinds of vegetables - raw, steamed, etc., including eggplant, zucchini, broccoli. There were shrimps and huge mussels and squids. For lunch and dinner, there are three soups - one constantly tartare and two hot ones. French fries, various pasta, were constantly present. There is not much sweet, but you could always choose to your taste. Fruits - pears, plums, watermelons, melons, grapes, apples, delicious oranges (albeit nondescript). For dinner, there were always 3-4 kinds of good cheeses (I mean blue cheeses). Olives, pickled cucumbers, hot peppers. The breakfasts are classic - omelets, scrambled eggs, pancakes, muesli, cereals, hot and cold milk, toasts, sausage, several types of cheese, vegetables, etc. And most importantly, everything is very fresh. There is also a snack bar near the pool. There you could have a snack during the day. Very tasty pizza, you could make yourself a hot dog, french fries, cutlets, fried sausages - delicious. For breakfast, coffee is served on your table in a coffee pot, you can make tea-cocoa. White and red wines, as well as beer freely available in the restaurant and snack, pour yourself as much as you want - no restrictions.
The beach is municipal. Sun beds and umbrellas are paid. But you can sit on your towel and under your umbrella. The entrance to the sea is very convenient. Sand. The beach itself could be cleaner, but it depends on the people themselves. We do not go to the pools, we believe that since we have come to the sea, then we are swimming in the sea. But the pool was a very decent size.
There was animation, but we are not fans of such entertainment, so I can’t say anything. The animators were also engaged in small children.
In general, and in general, we were very satisfied. We also rested in 5-star hotels in Turkey and Spain, etc., but I can say that I will be happy to return to Bulgaria. And it is to this hotel, although we usually try not to go to the same place. if you love quiet rest, Black Sea, then you definitely come here!
