Garda lake where you can swim. How and where to relax on Lake Garda? Sightseeing and recreation in Sirmione. What to see in Desenzano

Lake Garda is the largest freshwater lake in Italy, a popular resort for families. On the shores of Lake Garda, there are many resort towns with sandy beaches, the water in the lake warms up to 27 degrees in summer, all this makes Lake Garda a popular place for families with children. There are practically no noisy, party places there. Peace and tranquility reign here.

1.Visit Gardaland amusement park

This is a real holiday for adults and children. I already wrote about the park in detail in the article. There is also the Sea Life Oceanarium. If possible, it is better to take not one, but several days to the park, and the dream of any child will be to stay in one of the theme hotels in Gardaland.

You can book tickets in Russian with a reliable partner

2.Take a boat trip on Lake Garda

Most of the cities located on Lake Garda are connected by transport links in the form of boats and ferries. Such a walk will not only allow you to admire the scenery, but also explore the old towns. One of the most picturesque is Sirmione, I wrote about him in an article. See the schedule of boats and ferries.

3.Op
take a bike ride

Bicycles can be rented in most towns along the shores of Lake Garda. Cycle paths are marked on many streets and motorways. But in old towns, since the streets are very narrow, there may not be enough space for bike paths. For example, when we decided to take a bike ride in Sirmione, we often had to drive along the road. Considering that I was with a child of 6 years old, it was not very comfortable, and I had to drive along the sidewalk under the disapproving glances of passers-by. However, it is not dangerous to ride a bicycle on the carriageway, because car drivers in the city do not drive fast and behave respectfully towards cyclists. On the shores of Lake Garda, cyclists can be found everywhere; they often carry children in special carts, and even dogs.
Bicycles are not allowed in the historical part of Sirmione, so they had to be left in a special bicycle parking lot, but this is free. The main thing, when renting a bike, do not forget to ask for a lock with a key. Approximate prices for bike rental:

4 climb the mountains

As you know, only mountains can be better than mountains. You can admire them from afar from almost any point on the coast, but in order to climb them, you need to get to the city of Malcesine. The flight goes there

departure buses from Peschiera del Garda train station. The city is famous not only for the funicular, on which you can climb Mount Baldo, but also for the beautiful Scaliger castle. Malcesine is one of the largest resort centers of Lake Garda, and if I once again go to the lake, then, wrong, this time I will choose it. In the mountains, you can admire the alpine meadows, and there you can also walk with alpacas. Alpacas are animals like sheep, only with very long hair. Tourists are offered to rent them for walks, people like it!).

5. Make sightseeing trips to the cities of Italy: Milan, Verona, Venice

Lake Garda is connected to these cities both by rail and by bus. So while relaxing on the lake, you can also explore some of the most beautiful cities in Italy. In Verona, in the old amphitheater Arena are
opera performances.

6.Taste Italian cuisine

As in any resort place, there is a huge number of cafes and restaurants. The restaurants offer gourmet Mediterranean cuisine with seafood. Numerous pizzerias offer pizza of all sorts. And no one will remain indifferent to the famous Italian ice cream - gelato, which is sold in gelato cafes.

7.Shopping

8.Visit the baths

There are several thermal complexes in the area of Lake Garda. The most popular - Catullo - is located in the city of Sirmione. Here you can not only get wellness procedures, but also relax in the complex of pools and saunas. It is especially pleasant to visit there during the cold season, because thermal water is very warm.
Water is good for health, especially for diseases of the nervous system, allergies, and helps with pain.

9 go to the beach

Perhaps this item should have been the first. Each village has its own beach. Unlike the sea coast, where beaches are almost everywhere, not all of the coastline on the lake is suitable for swimming. Some places along the lake are overgrown with reeds or waterlogged. Therefore, the distance to the lake and the distance to the beach are different concepts. For example, we lived a 5-minute walk to the lake, and we had to walk 15 minutes to the beach. Often, in expensive hotels located on the shore of the lake, you can only see the pontoon going far into Lake Garda, which is used by hotel guests. And in order to enter the lake from the shore, they just need to go to the public beach, like everyone else.

City beaches have pay zones where you can rent umbrellas and sun loungers. On weekends, a huge number of local residents flock to the beaches, who gather in large companies, families, bring sun loungers with them, a lot of food.
There are a lot of birds on the lake - swans and ducks, which are not at all afraid of people, often swimming between the swimmers. Despite the fact that signs are hanging everywhere asking not to feed them, vacationers often feed the birds, mainly brought-in pizza. Then swans and ducks gather in large numbers on the shore, to the delight of the children.

10 listen to music

During the summer, Lake Garda becomes the center of numerous music festivals that take place in various cities along its coast. As a rule, these are festivals of classical or jazz music. The schedule of concerts should be found on the official websites of the resorts or in the tourist offices.
For example, for Sirmione, the schedule of all cultural events can be viewed (available only in Italian).

In addition, Lake Garda is framed by beautiful mountains, climbing which you can see Garda at a glance. The swimming season lasts on the lake from June to September, the rest of the time the resort is also popular, in the off-season tourists often come here for excursion purposes, since the cities of Garda have preserved many historical and architectural monuments, and the nature of the lake is famous for its beauty all year round.

While relaxing on Lake Garda, you can also take day excursions to larger cities in northern Italy, for example, to visit Verona or Brescia. The infrastructure of the resort is quite diverse, you can choose accommodation options for different budgets, the same applies to food (cafes, restaurants, bars of different price ranges).

Climate and weather on Lake Garda

The climate of Lake Garda is mild continental. From the north, the region is sheltered from the winds by the Alps, so sudden changes in weather are not typical for Garda, and this applies to any season. In summer, the weather on Lake Garda is sunny, precipitation is insignificant, the air temperature is kept at around +22 to +26 degrees, rarely higher. When climbing the mountains, the temperature may drop, it is recommended to have long sleeves with you. The swimming season starts in June and ends smoothly in September. September and May are ideal months for active hiking and excursions. It can be quite rainy here in April and October, but this is perhaps the only period when the weather on Lake Garda is characterized by precipitation.

How to get to Lake Garda

The cities closest to Garda with international arrivals airports are Milan and Verona (120 and 45 km respectively). Both Milan and Verona have direct flights from Moscow, the travel time is no more than 3-3.5 hours. Flights are operated by Aeroflot and Alitalia. You can also fly on this route with a transfer by European airlines, then the travel time will increase in proportion to the time spent on the transfer. To get from other cities in Russia, you need to dock in Moscow. You can clarify the flight schedule and book tickets on special search sites:

You can also get to Garda by ordering a taxi or renting a car. Both the one and the other method are relevant, since between the cities there are high-speed highways, the most convenient and fast for movement. You can order a taxi in advance using the transfer services:

- a purely historical city. The number of architectural and historical monuments here is simply off scale. Among the main buildings of the city are the Duomo Vecchio Cathedral, Duomo Nova Cathedral, the ancient Roman Pantheon, Broletto Palace, Brescia Castle, St. Julia Monastery, Martinengo Pinacoteca and much more. This list is quite extensive, but the historical center of the city is compact, therefore, with the exception of the castle of Brescia, everything else can be viewed, moving from one attraction to another.

Thermal springs on Lake Garda

On Lake Garda, contrary to popular belief, not only beach holidays are possible. On the southern coast of Garda there are several useful thermal springs at once. They are focused on . You can get to Sirmione with a small change in Desenzano from almost any major city in Italy. The most famous thermal spring in the territory of Sirmione is the Bayola spring, which has a whole range of beneficial properties. The waters of this particular source are used in the thermal complexes of Catullo, Virgilio and Aquaria. Also, using these waters, spa treatments are carried out in some 4 * and 5 * hotels in Sirmione.

The Baths of Catullo and the Baths of Virgilio are known for their preventive treatments, including inhalations, hydromassages and mud baths. The Aquaria Baths are more of a spa area with 3 swimming pools, a sauna, a relaxation room, and massage treatments. All baths in Sirmione are open all year round, so you can use the services of the thermal complexes regardless of the season. Many tourists specially come to Sirmione in the "low" season (from November to March inclusive) for this type of holiday.

Beach holidays on Lake Garda

Almost every resort town on the shores of Lake Garda has at least small beach areas, let alone recognized resorts that mainly specialize in beach holidays. The beaches of Lake Garda are different - sandy, small-pebble or large-pebble and rocky, it all depends on the specific resort and its distance from the mountains. In some places, instead of beaches, you can find special bridges and stairs with which you can plunge into the lake.

The swimming season on Lake Garda lasts from June to September, the water warms up quite well in the summer months (+23, +25 degrees), even though Garda is one of the largest and deepest lakes in Europe. However, on the coast, in places equipped for swimming, there is usually a gentle entrance to the water, so you can relax here with children, for example, without hindrance.

Popular beaches include Desenzano Beach, Spiaggia d'Oro and Porta Rivoltella Beach, the advantages of these beaches are that they are sandy. IN Sirmione the beaches are mostly small-pebbled, but also suitable for families. The beaches of Santa Maria di Lugana and Spiaggia Porto Galeazzi are in demand here. Between Sirmione and Peschieroy del Garda there is an equally popular vacation spot - Spiaggia Punto Gro beach (pebble cover). Spiaggia Punto Gro is equipped with everything you need, there is also a free car park.

As for the northern coast, the local beaches are surrounded by beautiful mountains and forests, which adds additional color to the area. One of the most picturesque beaches in this sense is the so-called pine beach in Riva del Garda... It got its name because a few meters from it begins the pine mountains and a magnificent series of mountain landscapes. Also in Riva del Garda, the beaches of Sabbioni and Miralago are popular.

There are also several small beach areas (Spiaggia Tifu, for example), but you need to understand that the town is located at the very foot of the mountain, so the beaches are pebbly. But in the usual sense, there are no beaches as such, there are only bridges and rocky areas, tourists also swim here, but entering the water itself is not always convenient. As for, a few kilometers from the resort is the wonderful equipped beach of Lido di Fasano. This beach is public.

Attractions of Lake Garda

Apart from the architectural and natural attractions, Lake Garda also offers a wide range of activities for the whole family. Next, we present amusement parks and water parks that will diversify your stay on vacation:

- perhaps the largest amusement park in the vicinity of Garda. Local attractions are divided into different categories from the simplest to the truly extreme! The place is perfect for families. The specialty of Gardaland is that you are unlikely to find local attractions in any other parks in the world, each of the attractions is unique;

OceanariumSeeLife - right there, not far from Gardaland, you can find an oceanarium, in which not the inhabitants of the lake live, but real sea animals and fish. The oceanarium is quite extensive; tourists often combine a visit to Gardaland and the oceanarium;

Movieland Studios - this is also an amusement park, but made based on famous action films. Here you can learn about the "kitchen" of filming: about how stuntmen perform stunts, about what is sometimes behind the action scenes. The park is so interesting that you can spend at least a whole day here! By the way, it is definitely worth staying here until the evening, because you can see a beautiful fireworks show;

A parkJungleAdventure - This is a popular rope park in the wooded area, which allows you to feel the real spirit of adventure. Obstacle routes are available for both adults and children;

Sigurta Park and Natura Viva Safari Park Are mostly walking parks with amazing nature and local inhabitants. You can walk here at least all day, and you still can't go around the whole territory. In Sigurta Park, you can also travel by sightseeing trains, and in Natura-Viva Park by special off-road vehicles like a "safari tour". In the Natura Viva park, in addition to the zoo, there is also a botanical garden and a dino park;

Kaneva Park Is one of the largest water parks on Lake Garda. It is located near Moviland (you can buy a general ticket to enter both amusement parks). Here you can find slides such as Splash, Kamikaze, Wind Lagoon, Crazy River, Typhoon, Twin Peaks, Black Hole and more. The rides are divided into children's and adult zones.

Hotels on Lake Garda, Italy

Accommodation on Lake Garda is very diverse - it can be standard hotels, and hotels like "bed and breakfast", and apartments (or apart-hotels), guest houses, and holiday homes. The price range also varies greatly depending on the star rating of the hotel and the services offered. It should be noted that there are practically no all-inclusive hotels on Garda, food options are usually only breakfast, but this is typical for all of Italy, and not just specifically for holidays on Lake Garda.

Since the resorts of Lake Garda are usually small towns, it is recommended to book accommodation in advance, so you can find the best option in terms of price / quality ratio. Early booking is best done 2-3 months before the start of the high season. You can find a suitable hotel / apartment in the resorts of Lake Garda, as well as check availability for specific dates, on specialized services for finding hotel offers:

Booking - hotel reservations in 120,000 destinations around the world;

Roomguru - the best deals from thousands of hotel booking sites.

When choosing a hotel, pay attention to such parameters as location, availability of a private beach area, type of food, availability of parking (if you travel by car).

Travel insurance

Going on a trip to Lake Garda or any other part of Italy, do not forget to take out a travel insurance policy, which is mandatory already at the stage of obtaining a tourist visa. You can take out insurance yourself without leaving your home. There are special services for this:

- online insurance for those traveling abroad and traveling in Russia;

- about online service for choosing and buying travel insurance with the ability to compare offers from different insurance companies;

You can buy a policy online, and then print it on a regular printer. The insurance must be attached to the visa documents, and you must also have it with you at the time of passport control upon arrival at the airport. Please note that the minimum insurance coverage for travel to the Schengen countries (including Italy) is 30 thousand euros. Medicine in Italy is paid and quite expensive, so having insurance with you is not a luxury, but a necessity. If you are planning to go in for active sports, it is better to include this option in your insurance.

I saw a lot of topics - popular travel - a week on lake, a week at sea. We now think the same - we distribute the days. But the pictures lakes impressive. And the sea - well, for the sake of the sea only ... already ... the lakes ... I'm afraid that no landscape of Bibione will disappoint us ... Or maybe with lakes Is it easier to drive to the sea a couple of times - to swim for a day? or far away? what it's like ... on the coast - we probably don't need a car there. I would take a car when already on lake let's go. And on the coast by taxi ... or will it be cheaper to rent a car? Electric train ... maybe the sea is not in Bibione, but in the direction of Liguria? there is prettier judging by the pictures ... and bathe will there really be in early June? us +22 water - already super-duper ...

ele-nka ... Quote: it seems to me at the beginning september there will be no heat and the sea is already warmed up For me this is an ideal period, but ... ... in the middle of the 11th grade will rest on the seas (although I really want to go to the sea in september-October, that for 7 years I can not afford) therefore such searches ... water ... which is not on lakes)) Although lake in Carinthia we really liked it, even though the weather was not the best))) And then again: and in July can hope for warm water in Garda? Bathe I want to!

A beach holiday on Lake Garda is not only a great chance to bask in the warm sun and swim in warm water, but also an opportunity to improve your health, enjoy beautiful nature and visit the best places. Why do we use the concept " the best places"? Because relaxation is often understood as the opportunity to sunbathe in the sun and swim in cool and clear waters. The swimming season opens in June and lasts until August; some zones are waiting for tourists in early May. During the tourist season, the air temperature rarely drops below + 25 ° C, the water warms up to + 26 ° C, which is an ideal indicator for increasing immunity and preventing many diseases, as well as preserving beauty and youth.

Depending on the location of the beach, the entrance to the lake can be sandy or pebble, and algae can be found in the water. In some places, where the entrance to the beach is pebbly, it is not very convenient to enter the water, because it is very slippery, or there are large stones at the bottom, because of which it is difficult to enter the water. Usually in the same place, a few meters from the beach, you can buy special rubber slippers. Therefore, before diving and frolicking in the water, first explore the area a little.

All public beaches offer special equipment for active water recreation, as well as inline skates and bicycles. In hotels near the tourist area, you can visit the spa. Thanks to this, many beaches have been created around the lake, which attract tourists not only from Italy, but also from other countries of the world.

The most famous recreation area of this area is Pine Beach, located at the end of the pine forest. For tourists there is an opportunity not only to bask in the rays of the hot sun, but also to hide in the shade and coolness of pine branches.

Most of the holidaymakers here are young people. Annual beach volleyball and football competitions are organized especially for them on Pine Beach. The exit to the lake is rocky.

The gentle sun and friendly people will not let your vacation pass in vain, and pleasant emotions and memories will remain in your memory, as well as the desire to return here.

Countless tourists flock to Italy just to see the historical beauty of Rome and Florence. If you turn your attention a little further north, you can unexpectedly discover a beautiful region of mountain lakes that are worthy of a separate trip. For example Lake Garda.

Now we will analyze in detail the rest on this largest lake in northern Italy, we will work out the issues of transport accessibility, attractions and features of recreation.

Probably, it is worth starting with this lake - Lado di Garda, since it is the largest lake (370 km2) in the northern part of Italy. It borders on three regions at once - Trentino - Alto Alige, Veneto and Lombardi. The northern narrow part of the lake goes inland between two mountain ranges, which is why the landscapes here are somewhat reminiscent of the Norwegian fjords.

To begin with, I want to suggest watching a video about a vacation on Lake Garda from my favorite channel "How are we there" (there are only 3 videos in the series, if you like it - look for a sequel):

Lago di Garda is right in the middle between Milan and Venice, so it is wise to stop here for a swim and sunbathe if you plan to travel between these cities. The nearest major city is Verona - located 40 km from the town of Garda. There is a very well developed bus service between them, so renting a car to get here is not at all necessary.

How to get to Lake Garda

The nearest international airport to the lake is in Verona, so if the purpose of your trip is precisely the lakes, it would be most reasonable to fly to Verona. A ticket for the S7 Moscow - Verona plane at the end of August will cost 6600 rubles. without luggage and 8700 rubles. with luggage.

The distance from Verona to the nearest towns on the coast is about 30-40 km. But in order to plot the exact route, first decide on which part of the lake you want to stop and whether you want to drive inland to see up close the shaggy mountains that start right from the shore. We will consider several route options.

Cities on Lake Garda

There are many picturesque towns around Lake Garda, and each of them has something to offer the tourist. We will tell you about several cities that are the most popular among travelers and the most convenient in terms of transport accessibility.

Peschiera

How to get to Peschiera del Garda

From Verona: There is a train from Verona Central Station to Peschiera del Garda station several times an hour, travel time - 15 minutes, cost 3.35 €.

From Milan: Direct trains are also available from Milan. The travel time is 1.5 hours, the cost of the trip is 10.50 €.

Peschiera landmarks

Peschiera del Garda is a charming town on the southern shore of the lake, and of all the cities mentioned above, it is closest to Verona. The central part of the town will appeal to lovers of nightlife - there are many cafes and restaurants, which are quite crowded in the evenings.

Despite the fact that the city is very small (10 thousand people), there are also interesting sights here, for example, the old fortress, where hostilities took place in 1848 during the Austro-Italian war - this is rather gloomy, but interesting from a historical point of view a place. One can look at porto Verona gatethat are almost 500 years old, or for church Chiesa Parrocchiale di San Martino Vescovo.

Peschiera is an ideal destination if you are traveling with children as the Gardaland amusement park is nearby.

Gardaland

Gardaland Amusement Park is 2.7 km from Peschiera del Garda Train Station. This is one of the largest amusement parks in Europe, which tacitly claims the name "Italian Disneyland". There is really a huge amount of entertainment here - a variety of rides, slides and an oceanarium. The area of the amusement park itself is about 200,000 m 2. It would be a great idea to go here with the children.

In the photo there is a huge Blue Tornado slide:

The easiest way to get to the Gardaland amusement park from Verona is via Peschiera. Next, take bus 164 near the Peschiera del Garda railway station and get off after one stop.

From the station Peschiera del Garda to Gardaland there is a shuttle, free for hotel guests in the amusement park.

Check the current prices on the website. There are family tickets for the park and aquarium at a discounted price of 33 € per person.

If you want to stay longer and try on yourself all the attractions, one day for which, of course, is not enough, it is better to stay at the Gardaland Resort Hotel or the Gardaland Adventure Hotel. If you book through Booking, a night in the first will cost from 138 €, in the second - from 155 € (prices at the beginning of September) for a double room. The second hotel will be the most interesting for children - each room is themed in the style of the jungle, Arabian night, Arctic, etc.

If you are still in doubt, take a look at the map of Gardaland - there is definitely enough entertainment for everyone.

The address: Via Derna, 4, 37014 Castelnuovo del Garda VR, Italy

It also offers a variety of wellness treatments including inhalations, massages, body wraps, etc.

There are also several hotels in Sirmione with their own small thermal spas - Grand Hotel Terme, Hotel Sirmione, Hotel Fonte Boiola.

Desenzano

How to get to Desenzano

Desenzano is also located on the southern coast of the lake and is adjacent to the cities of Sirmione and Peschiera, only 15 km to the latter, there is a regular train, travel time is 8 minutes. You can also get to Desenzano from Verona - by train the journey takes 25 minutes, the ticket is 4 € (station Desenzano del Garda-Sirmione). As mentioned above, there is also a train from Milan.

What to see in Desenzano

Despite the fact that Desenzano also has many historical sights, for a tourist the most interesting thing in Desenzano is, of course, the beaches. There are two of them - Desenzano beach and Rivoltella beach.

The first is located near the historic center, and can even be seen standing at the port of Porto Vecchio. Since the beach is located near the center, there can be a lot of people here during the season, so keep this in mind. Pebble beach. There are toilets and a cafe on the territory, you can rent a boat. The beach itself is free.

The second beach - Rivotella Beach - is located much further from the center (3 km from the railway station) closer to the town of Rivotella. You can walk on foot, or you can take bus 22 right at the station and for 1.90 € (ticket for 1.5 hours) and 10 minutes drive to the remains of Rivotella Bar Serenissima right by the beach.

There are also several bars and cafes, amenities and boat rentals. There are two small volleyball fields.

In the same area there are several hotels with beach access - Hotel Acquaviva del Garda or Admiral Hotel Villa Erme. On the map you can look for other hotels with a beach along the coast.

Garda

On the west coast of the lake, also near Verona, is the city of Garda. By itself, this is a very small city - the population is only 4 thousand people. There are wonderful panoramic views, but there are no large beaches or attractions, so most often tourists stop by this city to make a transfer and go further to Malcesine and other northern cities.

However, there is where to swim - along the clean and beautiful embankment Passeggiata Rivalunga there are several descents into the water, several cafes nearby, and places for sun loungers.

Attractions Malcesine

Due to the geographical features of the place, there are very few coastal areas that are suitable for a beach. However, this fact is more than offset by the picturesque views of the old Italian town against the backdrop of green mountains, the peaks of which disappear into a haze of clouds. If you are more interested in mountain holidays than beach holidays, Malcesine is for you.

If you have a strong desire to swim, you can go to the northern part of the city - opposite the Ambient Hotel PrimaLuna there is a place suitable for swimming.

In terms of attractions and entertainment, it has its own Scalliger castle and the wonderfully preserved Palazzo dei Capitani (admission is free).

But the most attractive place for tourists here is mount Monte Baldowhere the funicular runs regularly. A ticket for the funicular costs 20 €, for children under 18 - 8 €. Detailed information can be viewed, tickets can be bought online.

When is the best time to swim - weather and water temperature

The best time for swimming on the lake is in the summer months, in August the water warms up to 27 °. The water temperature in September is already lower - a maximum of 22 °.

The climate in the area of the lake is much milder than in the neighboring areas, which sharply distinguishes Lago di Garda from other lakes. But the problem for those who like to swim is that the lake is replenished with cold water flowing from the mountain river Flume Sarca, which flows into the lake in its northern part in the town of Torbole. Therefore, if you are thinking where it is better to swim, and if cold water is a rather significant problem for you, do not risk it and stop swimming in the towns in the southern part of the lake, and you can go to the north just for beautiful views.
