Baggage rules
The maximum baggage allowance on any Turkish Airlines flight is 32 kg. For domestic flights, the free carriage is:

In this article, I want to visually consider the registration for Turkish Airlines aircraft. I recommend that you go through this process through the Internet, without any queues and in a relaxed atmosphere. This will not only save time at the airport, but also be among the first to choose your favorite seats on the plane, which is very important, especially on long flights.
It should be noted that, unfortunately, online check-in for the flight is not available at all airports. So, for example, when leaving Sarajevo, I could not take advantage of this opportunity. In other cases, she helped me a lot: you can take your time and not stand in line. This option can also be considered irreplaceable if you do not have checked-in baggage, but only carry-on baggage. Then, upon arrival at the airport, you need to go straight to the check-in and security desk.
Okay, let's put the theory aside for later, let's analyze everything with a specific example.
1. Online check-in for regular Turkish Airlines flights starts 24 hours before departure. This is very convenient, you register at home, even if you then go to the airport by train or bus across the country. Slowly, in a relaxed atmosphere, and not rushing around the nearest cafes in search of WiFi.
Attention! If the flight consists of several flights, then check-in will be available 24 hours before the departure of the last of them!
To start the registration procedure, we go to the TK website, where you will be asked to indicate the e-ticket number ( E-Ticket Number) or PNR code ( Booking Reference), as well as the name ( First Name) and surname ( Last Name) of the passenger, and then click the Next >> ( Continue).
At the same time, pay attention to the checkbox “ To start online check-in only for mentioned passenger please click.“. This function is for those who have several people entered on the ticket and you want to go through the check-in procedure only for the passenger whose name and surname have just been entered. By default, the checkbox is unchecked, and in most cases we do not need it.

2. If you entered all the data in the first step correctly, you will be directed to the next page. It serves to select a flight for check-in, indicate the bonus account number of Turkish Airlines or another airline that is part of Star Allians ( Frequent Flyer Card Number) and your citizenship ( Nationality). Please note that the Turkey Card ID field ( Republic of Turkey ID Number) are filled in only by citizens of the Republic of Turkey. Then click the Next button.
Please note that flights for which check-in functions are already available are marked as Availeble to Check-in.
3. A new inscription will appear at the bottom. You need to set the corresponding checkbox in the green field stating that you agree with their rules, and click again Continue.
I accept the above conditions and would like to continue check-in –I agree with the airline's rules and would like to proceed with online check-in.
4. We got to the step where we need to indicate a seat for ourselves and the rest of the passengers. You can read about which seat is better to choose on the plane in a separate article.
As you can see, we have before us a diagram of an airplane and a schematic representation of all the passenger seats of our class. White, empty squares - empty spaces, then we can choose them. We select, click on them with the mouse and the corresponding place will appear opposite your surname. After this procedure, click next. 5. On this our registration is actually completed. At this point, you can still go back and change seats, but before the boarding passes are printed.
So now you need to print ( Print) all boarding passes ( Boarding pass) in the appropriate column. With these sheets, you will have to come directly to the flight. Try not to wrinkle it, as I did, stuffing it into my trousers pocket, at the Donetsk airport at the inspection the scanner only counted the security code from the boarding pass 5 times, I had to get nervous.
Please note that without Boarding Pass you will not be able to board the plane! Please do not lose these pieces of paper. Turkish Airlines considers packed items as the baggage allowance, the weight of which must correspond to:
- economy class - 20 kg;
- business class - 30 kg;

Cats, dogs and some caged birds are allowed in the aircraft cabin, provided that none of the passengers on the flight has provided a medical certificate stating that he is allergic to the transported animals. The permissible dimensions of the cage are 23 * 40 * 55 cm, and its weight with the pet should not exceed 8 kg. It is also possible to transport animals in the hold of the aircraft. It is very easy to become a member of the program, you just need to fill out the Miles & Smiles member form on the Turkish Airlines website. This is done absolutely free of charge.
You can earn points by flying with Turkish Airlines and their partners (other Star Alliance airlines). The number of points will depend on the travel class. You can also earn points by paying with your Miles and Smiles card. Miles earned on a Miles & Smiles credit card can be used to pay for tickets and other purchases. You can apply for a credit card on the airline's website.
You can earn miles with the Miles & Smiles program from the first trip. Further, it is possible to use them to obtain the following privileges:
- spend miles to purchase award tickets for Turkish Airlines domestic and international flights for yourself, family and friends;
- use your miles for a free upgrade;

Turkish Airlines check-in
The airline keeps up with the times and offers passengers online registration for the flight. This can be done on the airline's website from a computer, tablet or smartphone, as well as using a mobile application. After completing the procedure on the website, you can send your boarding pass to your phone or print it yourself. Online check-in saves time by allowing you to arrive at the airport later and not have to queue at the check-in counter. In case of online check-in, you must arrive at the airport at least 1 hour before departure (for domestic flights) and at least 2 hours (for international flights).
Online check-in starts 24 hours and ends 90 minutes before departure.
You can check-in in the usual way at the airport. In this case, you should arrive in advance and remember that check-in at the airport ends 45 minutes before departure (for domestic flights) and 60 minutes (for international flights).
Some terminals have self-service kiosks, with which you can register yourself and avoid queues at the counters. Passengers with electronic tickets can use the kiosk services. To do this, you need to do one of the following:
- insert a Miles & Smiles member card or bank card into the reader;
- enter the e-ticket number;
- dial the booking code (PNR).
Self check-in starts 12 hours before flight departure and ends 45 minutes before departure for domestic flights and 60 minutes before departure for international flights. Self-service kiosks can simultaneously check in up to 8 people with the same PNR.
Passengers without luggage can go directly to the boarding gate by printing their boarding pass at the self-service kiosk. If you have luggage, you should check it in at the check-in counter and then proceed to boarding.
Always time your time correctly - after checking in at a counter or self-service kiosk, you must be at the boarding gate at least 20 minutes before any flight departs! At some airports, it may take some time to get to the boarding gate. Late passengers are not allowed to fly.
