Judging by the last events, the airline from Siberia sets itself very and very ambitious goals aimed, first of all, in the direction of the comfort of passengers and in the direction of cost reduction.
And it's not about reducing the list of services, but about ... the newest models of aircraft.
Surprisingly, one of the most technologically advanced aircraft - Airbus A320NEO - the first appeared in the park of S7 Airlines, another 3 more only until the end of this year, and for the next few years the airline has delivered the task to update the entire A320 Park before this model.

On Friday, I visited Toulouse, at the Airbus factory, where these aircraft produce, just at the ceremony of transferring the first side of the airline S7. It was here that one of the first I managed to get on board a handsome A320neo, see what is new and innovative for passengers, as well as to communicate with the leadership of the airline and Airbus regarding future cooperation plans.

2. To be honest, I have never been present at the aircraft transfer ceremony in the hands of the airline and wondered how it happens.
In fact, this is not a car that you buy in a car dealership where other buyers are also located at the same time, which managers draw up documents or simply demonstrate one or another model. Airplanes buy quite differently. And quite differently handed the "keys" from the steering wheel. Especially when it is some kind of new product for the airline and the manufacturer.
The plane is not so much like a car: no one sells ready airliners from the warehouse here. Supply contract is signed in advance, and it includes, as a rule, is not one plane, but a particular party. The customer then determines the layout and many additional nuances and only after that the plant starts assembling the aircraft directly under the customer. Then the tests, acceptance (sometimes long and picky), and after the transfer ceremony ... between the moment of signing the contract and the moment of transferring the first side there is a lot of time, sometimes even a few years!

3. S7 Airlines Airlines is not a new Airbus partner, they have been cooperating for over 13 years. And if earlier this cooperation was carried out within the framework of classical models, then on Friday there was a sign event for S7 - the transfer of the newest Airbus A320NEO. And this is the first A320 new generation aircraft in Russia!

A320NEO is the heir of the most successful AIRBUS - A320 Airlines. The NEO program was launched in 2010, based on the deep remodization of the 320 family (New Engine Option), the main task of which is to seriously increase the cost-effectiveness and ergonomics of aircraft. Technically A320NEO is 95% unified with A320, and the main changes relate to engines, aerodynamics and comfort for passengers. That is, the A320 pilots do not need to be retracted to a new type of aircraft. For the airline, these airliners are becoming very beneficial from an economic point of view, and for passengers - in terms of comfort (about it below)

7. Let's start with passengers!
The first and most importantly, the A320 family salon today is the widest among narrow-body aircraft: it is 18 centimeters wider than that of a direct competitor - Boeing 737 and 737max, which allows you to install or broader armchairs, or make a wider passage between the rows.
In the A320NEO cabin for S7 the width of the passage is standard, and the six leather chairs installed in a series of 3 + 3 have a width of 18 inches (each 1 inch wider than in Boeing).
The shape of the inner cover of the cabin has changed, which gives more space for the shoulder passengers at the porthole.

According to manufacturers, thanks to the latest engines and unique clamps of wings (2.4 meters), maintenance and operation costs will decrease by almost a quarter, compared with the basic model. Among the machines of their class Airbus A320NEO has the lowest level of noise.

Externally, A320NEO almost completely repeats the appearance of the A320 model. The difference was the widespread use of composites (reinforced with fiberglass and carbon fiber plastic) and aluminum alloys. It made the design more durable, light and ergonomic.

The aircraft has a modern equipment of the cockpit of pilots. The company "Thomson - CSF" has delivered a unique software package. The most discussed in the aviation environment is a very important technical nuance in the work of the new PRATT & Whitney PW1100G engines. Before starting the current modification of engines, a relatively long period is needed for initiating work - up to 6-10 minutes. This is a very considerable time for airlines, because every minute is important, the plane should not stand on Earth.

However, the A320NEO also is supplied by the engine of another manufacturer - CFM International LEAP-1A, which has been certified in the summer and already since July A320NEO is supplied to new customers with CFM engines. There is no such Nyns in the work here, there are no delays, which is critical for budget carriers.

Noise level in the cabin

Feels like quieter, but quite a little bit.

For example in A380 or A350, as well as in the drimyiner, the noise level is significantly lower than in previous generations of wide-body liners.

There are no special lighting schemes in Lufthansa in A320, with the exception of one small, but very pleasant moment - this is a yellow LED tape in the deepening of the handles of the luggage shelves. No one else in the A320 / A321 did not see this, with the exception of A321 Transaero, who, unfortunately, had already passed into the past.

But this is not an innovation A320NEO, such lighting is in all A320 / A321 aircraft of the German airline.

Compared to the predecessor "Aerobus A320", the Salon of the new liner was significantly improved. It has an improved filtering system that prevents the appearance of unpleasant odors. The air in the cabin is completely updated every 2 minutes. Modern energy-saving diodes are used for lighting.

Business Class

In the standard configuration, the airliner has 164 passenger chairs, 8 of which are located in the business class. All paired armchairs, leather and soft. Each is equipped with a tilt of the back, but it does not provide a footrest and folding the pillow for the head. On each armrest there is a port for connecting devices via USB and even a full-fledged outlet.

Economy class

Compared to the previous version of the aircraft, the NEO model has significantly updated the economy class. There are even more different innovations than in the business class. Separately, it is worth highlighting a stand for tablets and smartphones, which is extended from the back in front of the standing chairs and is fixed with a rubber fixer from above. Thanks to this innovation, passengers can look at their gadget film, which will allow flying the flight much faster.

Also, the outlets and USB ports were added here, like a business class, but with a little difference: they are located on the back of the previous armchair. It is very convenient, because in the old airbus A320 the socket was under the seat. Because of this, many passengers did not even know what they could take advantage of.

Updated personal control panels for passengers located on the ceiling. Now the light for reading is more convenient to human eye and it is easier to get used to it than it was before. Lamps installed in lamps can serve much longer and use energy-saving technology.

Best places

As for convenient places in the aircraft of this model, then the seats in the 6th row (1st in economy) will be more or less acceptable. As previously noted earlier, the AIBUS A320 NEO is equipped with new modern engines, which have a reduced fuel consumption and reduced emissions into the atmosphere of harmful substances. An indicator is 50% lower than the permissible international standards, which cannot but rejoice.
