Foreign passports and documents

Obtained Russian citizenship - what to do next

Completion of the process of legalization in the state can provoke a sense of the end of a difficult path. In fact, every former foreigner needs to know what to do next after obtaining Russian citizenship - the new status will require confirmation by documents. In other words, it's time to get a Russian passport.

Getting a passport

It is important to comply with the following conditions:
the candidate must not have a previously issued Russian passport or other documents that can confirm citizenship.
Prior to obtaining citizenship of the Russian Federation, an application for a passport must be submitted.
Applicant must be at least 14 years of age.

Potential Challenges

In the presence of all the above circumstances, the immediate and obvious actions after that are to prepare documents for certification. It should be borne in mind that certain difficulties may arise during the process.

One of them may be the discrepancy between the information present in the documents. For example, the city may be incorrect (the name has been changed), or a letter is missing from the name.

Also, it will not be possible to issue a new passport if the papers lack the information necessary for this, for example, a record of the place of birth.

Difficulties in registration can also be provoked by the fact that after obtaining citizenship of the Russian Federation, documents were submitted outside the Federation, and the applicant did not have time, and he stays in Russia on an intra-citizenship certificate of another power.

All of the above reasons are solvable, but you will need to spend a little more time and effort.

Where to go

Obtaining a passport after obtaining citizenship of the Russian Federation is carried out in the same migration department where the foreigner settled the issue of citizenship, with the exception of cases when he changed his place of residence. Then you need to contact the FMS at the place of residence.

Please note: the application must be submitted in person.

List of documents

With an application for a new identity card, the following documents must be submitted to the FMS for a passport after obtaining citizenship of the Russian Federation:
photo (3 by 4 cm), matte;
certificate of the applicant's birth. This item is required;
identification;
receipt of payment of 300 rubles - the amount of the fee.

In order for the new civil certificate to contain all the necessary marks, you will need to provide a birth certificate for children, a marriage (or a break). All documents are not in Russian, require mandatory translation.

Timing

The regulation on the passport of a citizen of the Russian Federation provides that from the date of acceptance of papers at the place of registration for the entire registration process, it will take about ten days. If the person does not have registration at the place of submission of the application, then the period will be extended and amount to 30 days.

If necessary, the applicant may be issued a certificate confirming the acceptance of documents from him, or an identity card valid temporarily. For him, you will need to bring another photo.

It is important to know that persons wishing to obtain a passport due to acquiring citizenship of the Russian Federation can come to the FMS not only on working days, but also on Saturdays - the first and third (except holidays). You can agree on the number and time of the appointment by phone - the wait will last about five minutes.
