Where is the best place to relax in Austria. Family vacation on the lakes of austria. Sightseeing holidays in Austria

Good afternoon, today I will tell you what it consists of and how much a trip to Austria costs. About how much you can count on when planning your travel budget and how you can reduce costs. I will show our budget report (you can see the route). Based on our report, you can calculate your budget and plan your trip.

Any trip consists of costs:

 • for air ticket
 • to pay for housing
 • to buy a visa to the country
 • for insurance
 • for food
 • on excursions and entertainment
 • car rent

The first thing to remember is that there are several airports in large countries. That airports are located in different cities. That the cost of air tickets in Austria by city can be very different.

Much depends on the season, the time of purchase (the earlier you buy, the cheaper the ticket will be). I am showing a screen of prices for mid-April 2020.

Here are the major cities of Austria, which have airports: Vienna, Salzburg, Graz, Innsbruck, Linz, Klagenfurt.

Here's a screenshot where you can see the price difference:

As you can see, the cheapest ticket for the price is an air ticket to Vienna, from € 106 in both directions.

True, not all cities on this list can be reached from Russia by direct flight. It will be faster and easier to get to Vienna with a direct flight of Austrian Airlines. To other cities there are flights with transfers in Berlin, Hamburg, Dusseldorf, Helsinki and other European cities.

This is important information for us. If desired, we can choose a flight with a long transfer (+ 1 day), get off at the airport, see another city, and then continue our journey.

Important : Sometimes airlines offer ticket sales or discounts. To buy a profitable and convenient ticket you need monitor offers... Whenever you see good things, check the terms and conditions and buy right away. Such offers fly off instantly.

How much does a visa cost

Austria is a member of the Schengen Union. For us (Russians), this means that the purchase of a visa is mandatory. To obtain a visa to Austria, you need to submit the correct documents.

note: many companies offer visa processing services. This means that you provide them with all the necessary documents, take them to the visa center, and they undertake to deliver the documents to you. This service may cost 5 or 6 thousand rubles. At the same time, you must understand that you yourself prepare, collect, deliver and correctly draw up documents. They tell you the requirements. And the requirements are clearly stated on the official websites of visa centers.

Those. in fact, you pay for the delivery of documents from the visa center. Whether it is worth doing it is up to you.

It costs 35 € to independently apply for a visa to Austria, plus a service fee of 20 €. Passport expiration date must be at least 6 months.

One of the rules for obtaining a visa implies that you must have a certain amount of funds (money) in your account. Many countries indicate this amount in their visa requirements. In some countries, a clear amount is not specified.

But the calculation is something like this: 50 - 65 euros for each day of stay in the country. The statement from your bank account shows the degree of your financial security.

When calculating your travel budget, you should consider that this is the “average daily rate”. You can spend more, or you can cut costs and meet in less money. Nobody can force you to spend 50 euros a day)

The Austrian Visa Service Center in Moscow is located at Dubininskaya 35. There are also visa centers in Kazan, Krasnodar, Nizhny Novgorod, Novosibirsk, Samara, Rosto-on-Don, Krasnoyarsk and other large cities of Russia. The entire list can be viewed at website Visa Application Center of Austria.

Important news: From September 14, 2015, Russians will be required to be present when applying for a visa in person to provide biometric data (fingerprints and digital photos). This applies to tourists who request short-term visas for up to 90 days in half a year. You only need to submit biometric data once. After that, your prints will be stored in the database.

How much does it cost to stay

In Austria, as in other European countries, there is a huge selection of housing. A bed in an eight-bed room in a hostel, a single or double room in 2-5 star hotels, apartments and apartments with kitchens, suites with a pool. All this is there. Choose according to your budget. The service for booking accommodation will help you with this. roomguru... We use this service.

Vienna has a well-developed metro and other types of public transport, so you don't have to bother looking for housing in the very center of the capital. You can find options in other areas. Vienna's main sights can be reached in 15 minutes. The cost of the metro will be cheaper than living in the center. We stayed at the hotel Sommerhotel Wieden... It was convenient to get from him to. The Wien Hauptbahnhof train station is a 5-minute walk away.

By the way, you can find very advantageous offers in the center too. Basically they are from "private traders" - people who are engaged in their microbusiness. As a rule, this is not a hotel, but a room in a local resident's apartment or a separate room in a house.

There are such offers on the service AirBnb, which we often use lately and have not yet encountered any drawbacks. We find options cheaper than hotels. For example, in Vienna there are offers for 35-40 € an apartment with an entire kitchen. Agree, it's better than a hotel room. The amount of accommodation is divided into two - this is also beneficial. You don't have to change your daily routine (to be in time for breakfast). And we buy groceries in the store, and eat the same fruits, scrambled eggs, coffee, cheese for breakfast only much cheaper than in a hotel. Your own kitchen is a convenient solution for people with stomach diseases and digestive disorders - you can eat familiar food, carefully adding something new to the diet.

Friends, now we are in Telegram: our channel about Europe, our channel about Asia... Welcome)

How much does food cost

If you are in Austria, be sure to try the national cuisine. And this is a huge selection of pies - the most famous apple pie Strudel, delicious stews and fish, potato casseroles, dumplings and much more. We especially recommend trying the famous Wiener Schnitzel. As for drinks, we advise you to try Austrian wines - there are many of them in the country and they are varied in taste.

Austrian coffee houses. In our opinion, they are a must-see. Sipping on one of 30 coffees with Viennese strudel is not to be missed.

Today it will not be cheap for a Russian tourist to try all these delights of national cuisine in a restaurant. Unfortunately, the euro is not getting cheaper.

The portion in the restaurant, as a rule, is large (not like in Moscow), they put what is called “from the heart”, so you can take one main dish for two. If we took 2 portions out of greed, we asked them to wrap them with us. This is normal. Everything that you cannot master will be neatly folded into plastic wrap.

As an example, I consider the cost of a dinner for two at a restaurant:

 • Garnish: potato salad - 5-6 €. A large dish is brought. You can safely ask to bring you another clean plate and cutlery so that you can place one large serving in two plates.
 • Main dish: Viennese schnitzel - 12-15 € (as mentioned above, you can take a portion for two).
 • Dessert: strudel - 5 €.
 • Coffee 5-7 €.
 • Austrian wine - 2-3 € for a glass of 150 ml, champagne is more expensive - about 4.5 €.

The result is 36 € for two. But it seems to me that Alla and I would not be able to master all this in one dinner. Usually they took less. It was about 20-25 € for two.

We didn't go to restaurants every day. We usually had breakfast at the hotel, at lunch we had a burgers or Viennese sausages on the street. It came out about 5 €.

In Graz we rented a room in an apartment. We had a kitchen. We went to the store and bought groceries there. Of course it came out much cheaper than restaurant prices.

Stores in Austria are open from 9.00 to 18.00 (18.30). Stores close an hour earlier on Saturdays.

Important: grocery stores are usually closed on Sunday. So take care of breakfast in the evening or go to the train station.

At train stations, shops are open daily from 7 am to 10:30 pm.

How much do excursions cost

Combined tickets are popular in Austria. With this ticket, you can see several attractions at once. For example, there are about 12 attractions on the territory of the Schönbrunn palace castle. At the box office you can buy a ticket for each of them, or you can buy a combined one. The second option is usually cheaper.

Examples of prices for attractions:

Vienna Zoo - 20 euros
Prater amusement park - 7 euros
Combined ticket to Belvedere (lower and upper, Winter Palace, greenhouse, 21 house) - 31 euros
Mozart House in Vienna - 10 euros
in Graz - 11.50 euros. Buy a day ticket to the Joanneum Museum for € 13. He gives the right to visit all parts of the museum within 24 hours
Hohenwerfen Castle - 11 euros.

If you want to get to know Austria better, learn its history, we recommend taking unusual excursions from local residents.

Better yet, get the Vienna Card. This is a travel and discount card at the same time. Designed specifically for tourists. Using it, you can buy entrance tickets to the museum, castle, and other attractions at a discount. Plus, use public transport for free.

Detailed budget for our trip

We were in Austria for 8 days. This country was only part of our trip to Europe. In 27 days of the trip, we visited 4 countries: Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein. A detailed budget report is written in.

Budget of a trip to Austria for two (all prices are indicated for two):

Vienna - (3 nights) = 138 €
Graz - (2 nights) = 68 €
Salzburg - (3 nights) = 165 €

Tickets were bought through the Austrian railway website in advance (3-3.5 weeks in advance), so they got into discounts and promotions. On the day of the trip, they already cost 2 times more.

Vienna - Graz = 28 €
Graz - Salzburg = 38 €
Salzburg - Zurich = 158 €

In Vienna and Salzburg, they bought a tourist map of cities for 3 days. Vienna Vienna Card 20 €, Salzburg Zalzburg Card 31 €. With these cards when visiting museums, etc. the economy came out decent. In Vienna, one and a half times, in Salzburg twice.

Total: for two for 8 days including everything except trains, booked and bought in advance (accommodation, food, maps, etc.) 708.23 € came out. 708.23 € + trains 224 € = 932 €.

Those. for one person - 466 €.

Conclusions:

 1. Traveling to Austria is quite expensive
 2. The “Average Accommodation Rate” per day meets the visa requirements (€ 50 - 65 per day).
 3. We walked around the cities all day and saw quite a few sights, ate reasonably (we did not save on food, did not dine in expensive restaurants).
 4. If you are aiming at walking around the city (without sightseeing), then the trip will be cheaper.
 5. If you are not planning to travel to different cities, then deduct the cost of the train costs from our final cost.

Yours faithfully,

- an unusual choice for a summer vacation: our compatriots still prefer the sea. And among Europeans, the lakes of the Austrian province of Carinthia are always popular. If summer vacation is a pity, you can go to Austria for the May holidays - there will be enough time for fishing, excursions, and rest by the water.

The main word in the vocabulary of the Austrian region of Carinthia is, of course, "water". Whether it be the countless lakes scattered among the peaks, like fragments of a giant mirror, or the glaciers feeding the right tributary of the Danube. Not to mention the "fire water" - schnapps, which the locals drive out of everything that the local water-filled lands give.

Rest on the lakes

The largest lakes of Carinthia, the southernmost and sunniest Austrian province, are so conveniently and compactly located that it seems as if they were mapped by an employee of a travel agency, thinking over the route of future excursions, and not nature at all. So, you can easily see the top three winners of this peculiar hit parade in just one day. Lakes Ossiacher See, Millstatter See and Worthersee are located one after the other. The swimming season here lasts all summer (and in other years the water warms up to 27 ° C), and sailing fans do not leave the coast almost all year round.

Some travelers, in order to slightly dilute the overly sedate spirit of Austria, make a small detour to get acquainted with another popular Carinthian reservoir - Lake Faaker See. But tourists come here solely for the sake of funny photos against the background of signs on the roadside.

Lake Wörthersee. The largest and most picturesque lake in Carinthia is located in the south of Austria near the border with Slovenia. It is home to one of the most famous Carinthian resorts - Velden, the starting point for most excursions in Carinthia.
Lake Faakersee. One of the cleanest lakes, so motorized water sports are prohibited. But there is a sailing school where you can learn how to sail a yacht. The main resorts are Egg, Drobollach and Faak, and every year they host many fun activities for the whole family.
Lake Ossiacher. The third largest lake in Carinthia (11 km long and 1.6 km wide) is famous for its impeccable water purity (warming up to 25 ° C), excellent beaches and especially rich fishing. The main local resorts are Ossiach, Feldkirchen, Annenheim, Bodensdorf, which are especially good for families.

The main local lake Worthersee, the largest and most picturesque in Carinthia, was chosen by the powers that be back in the 19th century, and to this day almost every respected Austrian who has achieved something in life has built his house on the coast. Old castles in the classical style, rounded houses from the mid-50s and futuristic modern buildings are empty for most of the year, because the owners usually come here only during the season. So if you manage to be here before the start of school holidays, the lake will greet you with absolute silence. Most of the year, the calm is disturbed only by all kinds of waterfowl, of which there are many times more than representatives of our species.

But even in summer, if you wake up early, before the first wakeboard touches the water, you will hardly be able to recognize all the local birds without an ornithological guide. The local boys, it seems, do not know the word "slingshot", so any of the birds can be stroked on the wing, if desired, and almost amicably patted by the beak.

On the other hand, in the daytime, when instead of fish scales, Worthersee begins to dazzle with bare backs and multi-colored swimsuits, it is not so difficult to find solitude here. It is enough to be on the Pyramidenkogel hill on the southern coast. Its 850-meter peak is crowned with a three-tiered observation deck, which offers a truly incredible view. The shores of tiny islands on the surface of the lake smoothly turn into a sandy bottom, which gradually dissolves into emerald waters. And from this point it begins to seem that you are no longer in Europe. After all, very similar relief and colors, as a rule, are seen only by those who fly over the Maldives.

Restaurants: fish and schnapps

Those wishing to enhance this visual effect usually go to the local schnapps tasting. Fortunately, there are about as many distilleries in Carinthia as there are varieties of this drink. Schnapps are made from peaches, wild berries, apples, quince, cherries, and pine cones. Do not even try to try everything, because in order to cope with such a task, you will need to take not just full, but academic leave. Otherwise, there won't be enough time.

If you are greedy for big names - choose a large factory, prefer manual labor - go to the village to the farmer. But whichever barrel you find yourself in, the plug will be pulled out by a man whose eyes resemble nearby lakes in rainy weather: slightly clouded, with a reflection of a light cloud in the depths. I must say that local sommeliers (if you can call them that, of course) know their business very well, and if you find yourself here not even in the most successful company, by the third portion of the drink the air will surely be filled with an atmosphere of cordiality, universal unity and fun.

But the main gastronomic achievement of the region - Karntner Kasnudeln (a local version of dumplings) - cannot be called an absolute hit. The taste of one of the varieties of local cheese, which serves as the basis for the filling of this dish, frankly, for an amateur. Some, without chewing the first bite, understand that just now it was possible not to try anything new. Fish, which is also served everywhere, is a much safer option. After all, it gets on your plate directly from the lake.

Goritschnigg s Wurstsalon und Steakhaus (Seecorso 6, Velden 9220). Unmatched steaks and pork, unlimited access salad bar and excellent service. There is a shop with meat delicacies.
Loy-Stub'n (Thermenstraße 4, c / o Thermenwelt Hotel, Pulverer, Bad Kleinkirchheim 9546). The hotel restaurant with traditional cuisine and an open terrace overlooking the lake; on cold days, its inaccessibility is compensated by a cozy bar with a fireplace. It prepares dishes from products from its own farm, organizes themed buffets and evening cocktails.
Pizzeria Dobner (Maria Gail, Villach 9500). A 20-year-old family-run Italian restaurant that complements the excellent pasta and pizza with a view from the window or summer terrace.

Attractions and excursions

For spiritual food, you will probably go to the capital of Carinthia - Klagenfurt. True, this city does not exceed in size the average Moscow district, so do not expect from it the capital gloss or special cultural diversity. Nevertheless, if you wish, you can find here street, classical and modern art, as well as everything that any small European city should have in its assets: a couple of museums, a little history, street cafes, fountains, a shopping center. The most unusual thing that you will see is in the church - in the "Chapel of the Apocalypse" by Ernst Fuchs.

The psychedelic patterns on the walls are replaced by motorcycles, then fighters, spaceships, and then even bandits hugging half-naked women. Everyone who sees these drawings immediately asks the question: how old was the author in the 60s? The correct answer is 30. It's time to experiment on yourself in the most extreme years of the 20th century.

Children will probably love the Minimundus park-museum on the outskirts of Klagenfurt. All the most famous architectural structures in the history of mankind are collected here in miniature - from the Angkor Wat temple in Cambodia to the Sagrada Familia cathedral in Barcelona. And many of the technological advances, such as the steam locomotive or the space shuttle at the Cape Canaveral launch site, don't stop for a second. Smoke, horns and engine noise are of course included.

But wherever you go, you will eventually return to one of the lakes. At least in order to, standing on its shore, be surprised that many residents of these places have long retired. After all, at dawn you cannot immediately discern where you woke up today. In your bed or is it already heaven outside the window?

Hochosterwitz Castle (Hochosterwitz 1, Launsdorf). One of the most beautiful and most visited attractions in Austria. The castle rises on a cliff 160 m high, and its walls offer a delightful view of the surroundings. Some parts of the castle are open to the public from April to the end of October.
Wallfahrtskirche Maria Worth Cathedral (Seepromenade, Maria Worth). The most beautiful Gothic cathedral of the 14th century, built on the ruins of a Romanesque temple on a green peninsula in the south of Wörthersee. Brides and grooms from all over the world come here: the legend says that couples married in the cathedral will live a long, long life in peace and harmony.
Kreuzbergl Park (Volkmannweg 1, Klagenfurt 9020). Kreuzbergl is an expansive parkland in Klagenfurt that is pleasant to walk through, with an observatory, a beautiful cathedral, a botanical garden and the Bergbaum mining museum, housed in tunnels that served as bomb shelters during World War II.

Summer holidays in Austria

Summer in Austria - this is still an unusual and new phenomenon for us. Everyone perceives Austria solely as a country for skiing holidays, but in the summer there is something to do.

Summer in Austria has everything and a little more. If you want peace and quiet, then you are in thermal complexes(about them a little later), and if you want Adventure, then you will definitely get them)))) Let's start with walking and cycling routes

Hiking (trekking) and cycling routes in Austria

Trekking routes are located throughout Austria, over 15,000 km of marked, well-groomed, and most importantly safe routes. These are separate paths paved with gravel or asphalt, they rarely intersect with highways. Here you can enjoy the silence, beauty and unforgettable panoramas of Austria and the Alps.

The most picturesque of them are located in national parks or in ski resorts, skiing there in winter and walking or driving in summer. Using working summer lifts, you can climb high into the mountains without much effort, but then everything depends on your preparedness.

Tall Tauern (Nationalpark Hohe Tauern)

The largest national park in Austria hohe Tauern nature reserve (Hoe Tauern) there are more than 260 peaks of three-thousanders in the park. It is the highest mountain range in Austria. Here is the highest mountain in Austria - there is a walking route to its top (it is recommended to go with an instructor). There is also the most spectacular panoramic road along.

And many cycling and hiking trails: for example, to Krimmlsky (Krimml) waterfall or around a picturesque lake and ski resort

The best route for cyclists

The classic cycle route (aka pedestrian) from Passau to Vienna goes along a picturesque valley Wachau (Wachau) , past the most picturesque loop of the Danube bend, where castles are located on the high banks, and apricot orchards in the valleys. Dodina Wachau is under the protection of UNESCO, it is a very beautiful, unspoiled place, you will get real pleasure from traveling around these parts.

Alpine-Adriatic road

The route that can take you from Austria to Italy via Slovenia is the Alpine-Adriatic Road. The length of the route is 700 km, it is divided into segments of 20 km, and is designed even for inexperienced travelers, the altitude differences are small, where you will definitely find to spend the night on the way. The route starts again at the foot of the mountain Grossglockner and ends in the Italian city of Trieste on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea, the entire road has special markings, it is almost impossible for a poet to get off the route. But the road crosses the paths of beautiful valleys, turbulent rivers and lakes.

Camping in Austria

In the summer, it seems that everyone has moved out of their city apartments, removed their camper vans from their garages and drove around the Alps. In Austria, in fact, there is no such thing as a summer residence, and if someone from the city wants to relax in nature, they choose to camp. Campgrounds have their own stardom, like hotels. Camping sites with a lot of stars have swimming pools, restaurants, saunas, animators for children and other delights of hotel life. If there are two or three stars, then there will be just a lawn for a camper or a tent and harsh showers with toilets.

Camping in Austria prices

There are several options for accommodation, all of them are much cheaper than accommodation in guesthouses or hotels in the Alps.

 1. Tents: from 6 euros per seat plus from 2 euros per person
 2. Auto camper: from 20 euros
 3. Bungalow, trailer with kitchen and shower: from 40 euros

Camping sites are scattered throughout Austria, you can stay in cities and even in national parks. Many of them are located on the shores of lakes.

SPA and thermal baths in summer in Austria

A separate and rich topic is rest in thermal resorts. If you have already hiked the mountains and lakes of Austria, it's time to relax in thermal complexes... There are a great many of them in Austria: both near Vienna and in the Alps and in ski resorts. There is a whole cult of thermal and spa recreation here, the Austrians even buy annual subscriptions to the thermal baths.

Traveling in national parks in Austria

In Austria, huge territories are given over to National Parks, nature is really protected and protected here, in many bodies of water it is allowed to use only electric transport, it is forbidden to park cars near water bodies, of course, one can not talk about deforestation at all. National parks are ideal for families with children.

Therefore, you can drink water here directly from rivers and lakes, forests are in a virgin state, and animals live their own lives and do not pay any attention to people.

Hohe Tauern National Park (Hohe Tauern)

We already wrote about it above in this article in walking routes, but it is so big and steep that it will not be superfluous to tell a little more about it)))

Hohe Tauern (Hohe Tauern), the largest national park in all of Europe: it has it all: Austria's highest mountain Grossglockner, the largest three-stage waterfall Krimml, 4500 km of routes combined into 60 thematic routes. And a beautiful narrow mountain gorge Liechtensteinklamm (Liechtensteinklamm) with a waterfall and 60 peaks with a height of over 3000 meters and snow caps all year round.

Taiatal National Park (Thayatal)

The park is located on the border with the Czech Republic and protects the nature of the green canyon of Austria, which was carved by the Taya River, it goes around a mountain that has grown in the middle of the valley. The canyon reaches a depth of 40 meters.

Neusiedl am See, Seewinkel (Burgenland)

National Park with the second largest (after the Danube Delta), reed zone, a paradise for rare species of birds and animals and very harmonious plain landscapes. If you appreciate the charm of the restraint and asceticism of the steppe nature, you will love it here. There are many vineyards on the territory, with tasting rooms ...

Gesoise National Park (Gesäuse)

The youngest national park in Austria, founded only in 2002, is located in the federal state of Styria, near the border with Switzerland and Liechtenstein, this park has the largest elevation difference, almost 1000 meters, so there is a very diverse nature and landscapes, and also here the brightest rafting in Austria on the rough waters of the river Ens. The park's territory is planned to be expanded further, but even now you will get a lot of impressions here.

Food tours: Austrian wine and cheese

We are used to wine and cheese roads in all sorts of Italy and France. Austria does not seem to belong to the world leaders in delicious cuisine. But, the wines produced in Burgenland and South Styria are highly valued, and IceVine is a special pride - ice wine.

Austrian Wine Road

The Weinviertel not only offers excellent wine, but also stunning scenic views. You can just move from one wine house / cellar to another. Slowly tasting white sweet wines, and of course IceVine (Ice wine), the grapes for this wine are harvested after the first frost, while the berries release more sugar .

Austrian Cheese Road

Bregenzerwalde, Voralberg

Come summer to Austria, it's cool! You are sure to find fun and adventure just for you. And believe me, this will be one of the best summer vacations of your life!

Better than mountains can only be mountains that have never been before.
V. Vysotsky

The first thing that comes to mind when planning a summer vacation is to go to the sea. But often such a vacation turns into a headache: crowds of tourists, unbearable heat and guides who want to cash in on you.

Meanwhile, you can really relax in the mountains. The place is not obvious, but appropriate. In order not to become an ascetic and not go on a multi-day hike, the mountains can be replaced with a ski resort.

In the summer, there are no skiers or snowboarders, but there is incredible nature, clean gentle air, ringing silence and long-awaited peace. As well as sun loungers, swimming pools, soft bedding, delicious breakfast and summer festivals. There are such places in Austria - a country with majestic Alps, which occupy 70% of its area.

1. Zell am See

A cool ski resort where summer is even better than winter. All thanks to its location: Zell am See is located in the depths of the Alps. The city is surrounded by snowy three-thousanders and the Kitzsteinhorn glacier, and at the foot is the mountain lake Zeller. Therefore, in the summer you can swim and ski here.

Zell am See is not a pretentious resort for oligarchs, but also not a boring outback. There is something to do and where to go. For example, a lake is diving, fishing and water activities. The mountain slopes offer golf courses, tennis and horse riding. There is a thermal complex "Tauern Spa", where you can relax and rejuvenate.

There are hiking trails of varying difficulty: for families with children, and for lovers of outdoor activities. Mountain bikers will love the freeride and the views from the peaks.
