Where to go for the New Year in Europe

Where is the best place to celebrate the traditional New Year? With a Christmas tree, holiday fairs, richly decorated shop windows and mass celebrations? Of course in Europe!

Many European cities are preparing for the holidays in November and early December, and in January grand sales begin in stores.

But notice: in Europe, the main winter holiday is Christmas, while New Year is celebrated there, but on a smaller scale. Therefore, if you want to see New Year's Europe at the very time, it is better to go on vacation in the twentieth of December, and not at the end of the month.

The best option is to go to Europe on December 20-23 and spend there one and a half to two weeks, returning at the beginning of the year. So you will find both Christmas and New Year. Moreover, this can be done in different countries - for example, celebrate Christmas in Germany, and New Year in Tallinn.

Do not forget that a Schengen visa is required to visit most European countries - it will cost 5000-6000 rubles.

Finland

If you are looking for where to fly on New Year 2020 with a group of friends, take a look at Finland.

Finns prefer to celebrate the holiday not on the streets, but with their families, therefore a good option would be to rent a cottage for the period of Christmas and New Year's holidays.

You can rent both a lonely house in the middle of the forest, and a cottage located next to ski resorts and SPA centers - depending on which type of vacation is closer to you.

Popular ski resorts where you can celebrate the New Year in Finland are Levi and Saariselkä. And for those who choose where to go for the New Year with children, you can advise the vicinity of the city of Rovaniemi in Lapland - from there it is easy to get to the residence of Santa Claus.

In Helsinki, the center of festivities is located on Senate Square, where fireworks are launched. But if you decide to celebrate the holiday in the capital - keep in mind that in Finland many attractions, museums and shops are closed during the holidays, and restaurants on New Year's Eve serve guests only until midnight.

Switzerland

Switzerland has a big advantage over other European countries - in late December and January there is almost always snow (at least in the mountains). Real, furry, lying in large snowdrifts along streets and houses.

If you want to catch the holiday itself, it is better to go to Switzerland for Christmas, since the New Year is practically not celebrated in this country. For noisy festivities and festive fun it is worth choosing one of the major cities - Christmas markets are held there, sweets and souvenirs are sold.

If you want peace, you should choose one of the ski resorts: the celebrations there are not so large-scale, but there is an opportunity to enjoy the privacy and beautiful mountain landscapes.

The best option, in our opinion, is to celebrate Christmas in the city, and then go skiing or snowboarding to one of the Swiss resorts.

Flights. Air tickets to Zurich in December cost from 13,900 rubles; to Geneva - a little more expensive. Search for tickets to Switzerland →

Hotels. On the outskirts of Zurich, 2-3 star hotels can be rented for no less than 6,000 rubles, closer to the city center - even more expensive. The cost of more fashionable hotels is from 10,000 rubles per night. Find hotels in Zurich →.

In Geneva, hotel accommodation during the New Year holidays will cost 10-20% less.

How to relax for the New Year cheaper

  1. The most important - try to buy hotels and tickets as early as possible (in September - November, or generally in summer). Wherever you go, as the New Year approaches, prices for tours and self-recreation are growing every day.
  2. If it is not critical for you to celebrate the New Year directly abroad, but you want to plunge into the European Christmas culture or go to the sea and the beach, look for options with a return BEFORE or departure AFTER New Year's Eve. Such options can cost several times cheaper than a trip that includes New Year's Eve.
  3. Sales in Europe start in January - if shopping is important to you, plan your holidays for the New Year so as not to return to Russia at the very beginning of January.

We hope this selection of countries for holidays for the New Year 2020 in Russia and abroad will help you decide on a vacation spot for the New Year holidays!

Have you already planned your vacation? We will be glad to receive your comments, recommendations and feedback!

Probably everyone loves New Year's holidays: beautifully wrapped gifts, furry fir trees, burning garlands and fragrant tangerines are just a small part of Christmas miracles. And someone sees a long weekend as an opportunity to change the situation and relax outside the home. Where is it worth going? Traveling in Russia? Or head to distant lands, where? It is tempting, but not everyone dreams of spending time on a wonderful, but often idle vacation by the sea. Some people prefer to be culturally enlightened - to get acquainted with famous architectural masterpieces, go to museums, theaters, etc., while others need an active holiday in the form of skiing. Let's discuss different options.

In Russia

To have a good rest on New Year's holidays, it is not at all necessary to stop your choice on foreign tours and trips, since in Russia there are a huge number of wonderful places where you can spend an unforgettable weekend. A few years ago, most Russians on New Year's Day sought to get to other states, because it was not only interesting, but also prestigious.

Now the situation has changed - you will not surprise anyone with a weekend in Paris, and many people, due to circumstances, simply do not have the opportunity to travel outside their native country - some do not have a passport, and someone works in a "secret" job, having signed an agreement to become " not allowed to travel abroad. Progress does not stand still, which greatly affects the Russian tourism sector - today even the most demanding and comfort-loving citizens can easily find an amazing and wonderful corner where you can go to relax on the New Year. Consider the most interesting and unusual options.

Peter attracts tourists at any time of the year, and the holidays are certainly no exception. Guests come to Northern Palmyra both independently and within the framework of special tours offered by travel agencies. Without a doubt, the last option is very convenient - you don't need to think about the selection of accommodation and tickets, and a variety of sightseeing entertainment is usually included in the program. However, not everyone wants to have a rest on schedule, so many cope with organizational issues on their own without any problems.

Travelers who decide to celebrate the New Year in St. Petersburg have access to an incredible amount of entertainment for every taste - you can walk along Nevsky Prospekt, shop in huge shopping centers, attend folk festivities, watch performances by world-class stars, go to the Mariinsky Theater, to a concert or to the museum. The weekends spent in the cultural capital of Russia, in January-December, when garlands shine on every window, and elegant Christmas trees are pleasing to the eye, will be remembered for a long time.

  • -4 / -9 ° C. It should be noted that usually in St. Petersburg the weather is windy, and the humidity is quite high, which together does not give the most pleasant effect. Therefore, when going on vacation, do not neglect warm clothes, hats and scarves - all this will certainly come in handy.
  • Cost of living: a double standard room in a hotel located in the center of St. Petersburg can be booked quite inexpensively - from 3000 rubles per day. It is logical that the price will directly depend on the needs of tourists. Those planning a budget vacation prefer to stay in a hostel.
  • How to get there: by car, train or plane. It is worth considering that it is best to buy plane or train tickets in advance, since they can be trite to the end of December.

New Year's holidays in the capital are an excellent choice for those who want to get into a real winter fairy tale, the scale of which will amaze the imagination of any Russian. Moscow will delight guests with an incredible number of shining Christmas trees installed in every district of the city. However, the most popular is the Kremlin Christmas tree on Red Square. It is there, on the country's main Christmas tree, that thousands of people gather on a festive night, wishing to collectively celebrate the New Year with the chimes and wonderful fireworks.

You can list for a long time. Of course, it is worth thinking over a pastime based on hobbies and desires. For example, visitors to Moscow are likely to like something from the following list:

  • Do you love shops and dream of buying everything you need and not so much? Then you need to visit the colorful and wonderful holiday fairs in the Hermitage Garden, on Red Square and VDNKh. And the vastness and splendor of TSUM, probably, will not leave anyone indifferent.
  • For theater-goers, Moscow is just paradise. Sensational theatrical performances, where you can see live the stars that have long been familiar to everyone from Russian cinema. New Year's discounts, which are usually offered by most theaters, are a nice bonus.
  • Tourists with children will be delighted with visiting the aquarium. There are several of them in Moscow, and the most popular is located at VDNKh.
  • Active guests will have fun going to the skating rink or rolling down the snow slides.
  • Average temperature in January: -5 / -10 ° C.
  • Cost of living: a double standard room in hotels located a few kilometers from Red Square costs from 4100 rubles per day.

Karelia in winter is a real miracle: mountains, lakes, waterfalls, a huge number of reserves and beautiful nature. As a rule, tourists wishing to celebrate the New Year on the land of the Karelians choose the capital of the republic - Petrozavodsk. While walking around the city, be sure to visit the embankment of Lake Onega - an extraordinary and fabulous view opens up from there, and along the street you can see the famous Wish Tree, a monument to Peter the Great, as well as other interesting sculptures and compositions that were presented to Petrozavodsk by the twin cities.

The creators of the patrimony of Santa Claus arranged everything here so that the surrounding reality turned into a fairy tale, in which every child dreams of being in. You will also feel like children after visiting some truly magical places. Fabulously beautiful, carved wooden tower of Frost, the Throne Room, where New Year's gifts are presented; many other extraordinary rooms - will enchant your children. Here they will see the long-awaited meeting of Santa Claus and his granddaughter Snegurochka.

A journey along the Path of Fairy Tales, leading from the tower to a pine forest, will give you even more emotions from visiting the Lesovichka house, the Wise Owl, grandmother Aushka, Mikhail Potapych. There you will meet the Magic Well and the "12 Brothers Months" inviting you to warm yourself up by a real fire. The admiration of children will be boundless after participating in interesting game programs, attractions, fun sledding of various types and even on the fabulous Emelya oven.

The healing pine air, an exciting and interesting walk will bring maximum benefits and positive, previously unknown, emotions. Present your children with this great opportunity! In Veliky Ustyug itself, where there are many ancient architectural masterpieces of Russian northern architecture, there is the official representation of Santa Claus, where letters from children from all over the country come. Like any modern person, the "grandfather" has his own website (pochta-dm.ru) - you can also write to it.

To the Snow Maiden in Kostroma

No less exciting will be a visit to the charming companion of Santa Claus in the New Year - Snegurochka in Kostroma, where she was settled, probably because it was in this city that the great playwright A. N. Ostrovsky wrote a touching story that became a classic of the drama The Snow Maiden. Also, because Kostroma is next to the patrimony of Santa Claus, so that the granddaughter does not have to travel far to him. Here, in the vicinity of Kostroma, the famous feature film about the Snow Maiden was filmed. The shooting took place in the fake village of Berendeyevka, which was later transported to the city, making it the basis of the park of the same name. In it (the park) they built a wonderful little house made of wood, with carved platbands, with openwork balconies and patterned porches - a real fairy-tale house “you like to look”.

Snegurochka's dwelling is surrounded by a magical courtyard with a restaurant for guests "Metelitsa", a small belfry, a swing in the form of a Russian spoon, a huge boulder with a famous fairy-tale saying, and a wooden slide. How picturesque it all looks on a clear frosty day, against the background of sparkling snow, how the truly Russian style of buildings touches the soul. The hospitable Hostess will guide you through the halls of the tower, tell you how miracles happen, introduce you to the myths and legends about the Snow Maiden, and show you talented crafts from Kostroma children. There will be no limit to the general delight in the Ice Room, stunning with its interior, completely made of ice: walls, floor, sculptures, dishes. For warmth, children are served fruit juices in ice glasses, adults - strong drinks in ice glasses.

The "blue-eyed" land, about which there are lines about "eyelashes of fir trees" above the "eyes of lakes", falls in love at first sight with the unprecedented beauty of nature, the generosity of coniferous forests and countless lakes. A trip to meet the New Year in Karelia will become the most romantic and unforgettable. Tea drinking in the Sami tent, meeting with the Karelian brother of Santa Claus - Grandfather Hall, the "school of elves" will give unusual impressions to children and adults.

If you opt for Petrozavodsk, you will find an incendiary New Year's party at the hotel, with dances, live music, and entertaining contests. The next day, you can go to the Kivach lowland waterfall, visit the Karelian Grandfather Hall, the arboretum of the Karelian birch, and the nursery of sled khasok. If you wish, you can ride with the breeze on a dog sled or snowmobiles.

A trip to the "Venice of the North" in Russia on New Year's Eve by car is a truly festive journey. Although the M10 highway is not everywhere in perfect condition, the views on both sides are simply amazing: mixed and coniferous forests under a white cover, just like in Yesenin's poems or in the paintings of Russian painters.

After settling in a hotel (you can book in advance in a good place with a magnificent view from the windows), having a rest from the road, go for a walk along Nevsky Prospect, go out to Palace Square. There, together with the crowd of tourists, celebrate the New Year, and then return to the hotel and continue to celebrate. The next day is a fantastic voyage around the world famous places of the “great city of Petrov”. You can go to Gostiny Dvor and book a sightseeing tour there in order to get to know the main sights of the city. But self-acquaintance with them will bring no less pleasure.

Going to the embankment, you will see the legendary "Aurora", Troitsky Bridge, Peter and Paul Fortress on the Hare Island, where the changing of the guard takes place at noon. Passing the Troitsky bridge, you need to throw a coin to the "bunny" installed under the bridge for good luck. After passing the fortress, pass the Field of Mars, visit the Russian Museum and go out to Nevsky Prospect.

If you walk along the Palace Embankment, you can walk to the Winter Palace and the Hermitage. The latter should be devoted to the whole day in order to at least briefly examine its main exhibits. Unforgettable impressions of St. Isaac's Cathedral, the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood, the Arc de Triomphe, Alexander Column, Kazan Cathedral and other magnificent architectural masterpieces await you. New Year's days in St. Petersburg will become emotionally and aesthetically intense, fill you with light spirituality.

A trip to Kazan for the New Year is an opportunity to see the Muslim-style celebration of the change of the year in one of the most beautiful cities in Russia. Here Russian Orthodox traditions are intertwined with Muslim customs, so visiting Kazan on New Year's days is a special event.

The central meeting place for the New Year is the Millennium Park, in which a luxurious spruce tree is installed, an ice rink is set up, souvenir booths are opened, and various contests and competitions are held. It is not difficult to book accommodation through the Hotellook.ru Internet service before the trip - there are many recreation centers, country cottages, hotels and hotels.

If Kazan is a combination of Russian and Tatar mentality, then Kaliningrad is a city where Russian people live in a European atmosphere of purity, comfort and well-groomed. You can feel the atmosphere of European comfort by visiting Kaliningrad, the former German Konigsberg, where the spirit of Kant soars in medieval buildings, where German paving stones and a special gloss inherent in European cities have been preserved. You will not be disappointed by the New Year's days spent in this beautiful city, which has many restaurants, cafes, clubs preparing holiday programs. You will also like the annual theatrical performance on pl. Victories at the Cathedral, sincere hospitality of Kaliningraders.

Even just walking around the city will bring a lot of pleasant things: wonderful adjoining gardens, lawns, beautiful mansions with red tiled roofs will delight the eye. On all city squares, in parks, funny shows are organized, concerts are organized (the mild Baltic climate will not spoil the fun). Vivid impressions will remain from visiting the museums of Amber and the World Ocean, from excursions to the suburbs, where wonderful objects of ancient German architecture have been preserved. New Year in Thailand

We celebrated the New Year in Bali, and for the January holidays we were in Thailand

The Russians have long chosen Thailand as a place where you can spend an inexpensive vacation at sea. Trips here are organized all year round, and the cost of the tour, even in the season, is quite democratic - from 68-70 thousand rubles for two.

Pros of Thailand:

  • + Departures - from most cities in Russia
  • + In stock - everything for which tours are purchased abroad for the New Year 2020 - sunny weather, clear blue sea and endless sandy beaches
  • + Phuket is the best winter resort for a vacation with a child
  • + Bright show programs in hotels and bars
  • + Excursions, both natural and cultural
  • + Exotic fruits - mango, papaya, mangosteen, dragonfruit, durian

New Year's holidays in Thailand will be of interest to both lovers of noisy parties and connoisseurs of privacy. The latter can go to some small and uncrowded Thai island and meet on January 1 on a deserted beach - under bright stars and to the sound of the surf.

When planning a trip for the New Year abroad at sea, it is worth considering some minuses:

  • - December-January is the peak of the tourist season. Thais, who are well aware of this, double their prices. Therefore, it is worth booking a tour 3-4 months in advance.
  • - Almost everywhere there are a lot of people on the beaches, in entertainment venues, in markets and just on the streets.

New Year in Vietnam

Where else to relax on the warm sea on New Year's holidays, besides the already familiar Thai resorts? Many people choose Vietnam. The popularity is just gaining momentum, so a trip here is an extraordinary and interesting way to meet January 1st.

Here's what to expect from New Year's in Vietnam:

  • + affordable prices (for example, lunch in a good restaurant will cost $ 20-30)
  • + bronze tan and warm weather
  • + well-developed tourist infrastructure and tolerable service
  • + and New Year's atmosphere along with a festive mood! (the streets of many cities are decorated with garlands, carnivals, festivities and fireworks are held)

Doesn't the New Year in Vietnam bode well for any disadvantages? Unfortunately, there are also disadvantages here. In the south of the country, where most of the resorts are located, typhoons hit the coast from mid-October to late December. And in the central regions, where there are also many popular resorts, the rainy season lasts from August to January.

Which resort to choose: Phan Thiet, Mui Ne, Phu Quoc - off-season in Nha Trang.

  • Prices for New Year's Vietnam start at 95,000 rubles for two for 10 nights.

Goa

Where to go for New Year 2020 inexpensively? Goa is the cheapest and warmest thing that can happen during the holidays.

Someone claims that the state for recreation is “cheap and cheerful”, someone is delighted with the local “five” (which can be counted on the fingers of one hand), and someone reads reviews about the terrible unsanitary conditions and crosses the destination from the list. But it's definitely worth the trip, we are going too :)

  • For 7 or 10 nights, a tour to Goa costs from 90,000 rubles for two (depending on the departure date).

Turkey

True. Also in 5-star hotels, all inclusive and with animation. But not all complexes are open in winter, the choice is decently limited. Nevertheless, in that article we tried to select the best options.

Another scenario for celebrating the New Year in Turkey is Istanbul. Cats, bagels, light snow (possibly) and the Bosphorus with seagulls - we are delighted with the city in any weather :)

The only thing that will "disappoint" in resort Turkey is the temperature outside at + 10 ° C ... + 15 ° C. There is a lot to oppose - a heated pool! We have provided a list of good hotels open in winter in this article.

Which resort to choose: Istanbul, either Belek or Antalya.

  • Turkey for the New Year tour will be at least 50,000 rubles per week for 2 people. A hotel with good reviews - from 80,000 rubles.

UAE

Christmas Market at Festival City Mall and view of Dubai from 43 Level Bar
(from 6 to 8 happy hours)

Where to go on New Year's at sea without a visa? Since 2017, the United Arab Emirates has joined the list of states with easier entry for Russians. • Grandiose fireworks, which the whole world is watching live on the Internet and TV.
  • A real New Year's safari in the desert: the opportunity to celebrate the main holiday not in Russian snowdrifts with Santa Claus, as we are used to, but in the sands of Rub al-Khali in the company of Bedouins and camels.
  • Famous Dubai Shopping Festival with discounts up to 70%. Many people come here just for this.
  • Festive dinners and shows in hotels and restaurants, fiery beach parties. we talk about specific places and entertainment at NG-2020.

The cost of a trip to the UAE can grow exponentially if you decide to revel in full swing. Indeed, it is in the United Arab Emirates that the most expensive hotel in the world is located! Therefore, it is not surprising that wealthy citizens spend seven-figure sums on New Year's in the UAE.

We were in Dubai for Christmas - even artificial snow is thrown into the air.

Which resort to choose: the most biting one is Dubai; cheaper - Ras al-Khaimah, Sharjah, Fujairah

Summing up, we can conclude that the New Year holidays in the United Arab Emirates can be affordable for almost anyone. And holiday entertainment can be both budgetary and fabulously expensive. Each of the seven emirates promises everyone who decides to celebrate January 1 abroad the best New Year!

  • A vacation in the UAE with a voucher costs from 75,000 rubles for 7 nights for two. To Dubai - from 100,000 rubles.

Israel

We were in Israel in October and December - at the Dead Sea or in Eilat you can swim even on New Year's Eve

Our traditional New Year in Israel is celebrated by numerous emigrants from the USSR and Russia. And, of course, tourists who decide to meet on January 1 at the resorts of the Mediterranean Sea or go on a winter vacation to the Dead Sea - to improve their health and gain strength before the long Russian winter.

Both the cost of the trip to Israel and the weather will depend on what place the tourist chooses for the New Year's holiday. There are as many as 3 seas in the country: the Mediterranean cold at this time, the warm Red and the very salty Dead Sea.

In an immigrant environment, the night of January 1 is noisy and fun. Traditional New Year's dishes can be purchased for the festive table in Russian shops. Performances with Santa Claus and Snegurochka are organized for children, young people go to have fun in clubs and bars, and middle-aged and older people "occupy" restaurants and cafes.

During the holidays, everyone who comes to celebrate the New Year in Israel will find something to their liking:

  • beach relaxation (unfortunately, swimming in December and January in the Mediterranean Sea is still cold); but only 6 hours from Tel Aviv and you will find yourself on the warm Red Sea
  • health and wellness vacation at the Dead Sea
  • visiting local shrines and attractions

Which resort to choose: Tel Aviv is for fun, Eilat is for the sea.

  • Tours to Israel with capture on December 31 - from 75,000 rubles per week for two.

Maldives

Where to go abroad for the New Year if all of the above routes have already been tested? In this case, you can fly to the Maldives!

Just imagine, a state located in the Indian Ocean and consisting of 1196 islands, only 199 of which are inhabited! Calm, peaceful and very warm winter vacations are guaranteed. Of course, the cost of a vacation in the Maldives, even if the tour is booked in advance, is high.

The Maldives, where you can also go without a visa, on New Year's Eve offers:

  • wonderful weather (air warms up to + 30 ° С, water up to + 28 ° С)
  • picturesque nature, unique fauna
  • relaxation on white beaches under the shade of palm trees and swimming in clear water
  • entertainment program on New Year's Eve
  • Rest on the paradise islands is expensive: from 200,000 rubles for a tour for 7 nights.
