In 2017, the main document of the driver retained the form, appearance and content determined by order of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the Russian Federation No. 365. The last time changes were made to this document on January 9, 2014. A driver's license (VU) contains information about the driver, the types of vehicles that he is allowed to drive, special marks, information about the traffic police authority that issued the certificate to the citizen. In addition, they must indicate the number and series of the driver's license. All this information is necessary when checking by inspectors and traffic police.
The license is issued to the driver for ten years. There are no rules obliging to replace it with a new sample before the expiration date. For this reason, some motorists still do not know what the new driver's license looks like.
Once it was a paper book, later cards appeared. The size and content of the cards have changed several times. For this reason, the question of what a driver's license looks like is currently quite relevant.
The new document is a plastic card measuring 8.56 by 5.4 centimeters, with rounded corners. On its front side in the upper part there is an indication of the country of issue - "RUS", to the right the name - "Driver's license".
Below these inscriptions on the left side of the card is a color photograph of the owner. In modern certificates, it is done directly in the traffic police.
Mandatory data
To the right of the photo are information about the owner and the document itself. The series and number of the old-style driver's license were written at the top under the title of the document, now the data is placed in the following order:
- Last name of the owner.
- Name and patronymic (if any) of the owner.
- Date and place of birth.
- Certificate information:
- date of issue;
- expiration date;
- the name and four-digit numeric code of the authority that issued the card.

- The sixth point is the photo located to the left.
- Personal signature of the owner (it is under the photo). To avoid misunderstandings, put exactly the same signature as in the passport.
- The region where the owner resides.

All inscriptions made in Russian are duplicated in Latin letters.
On the back of the document is a barcode that is used for automatic verification. Its dimensions are 1.0 by 4.2 centimeters. 
In addition, there is a table of all possible categories and subcategories of vehicles. Next to the allowed categories is the date of issue of the rights, to the right - the expiration date of their validity, and even more to the right -. For example, with category B1, it is indicated that driving is allowed only with an automobile type of steering wheel.
Series and number of the new VU
The digital identifier of the new driver's rights is the number and series of this document. For people who have not previously encountered new papers, the question often arises of how to find out the series and number of a driver's license.
On the front side, they are located in paragraph 5, and on the back - in the lower right corner of the document, where they are printed in red. Naturally, the numbers on both sides of the document must match - in particular, this is another element of protection against forgery.
So, you have found a sequence of ten digits separated by two intervals.

The first four digits of the sequence are the document series. Moreover, the first two of them coincide with the number of the region in which the card was issued. The actual VU number is the last six digits.
In old-style documents, the series included letters of the Russian alphabet, but only those that had Latin counterparts.
