A migration card is a document filled out by a foreign citizen when crossing the border of any state. This card provides the right to enter the territory of Russia. It also serves as a permit to stay in the country and the basis for obtaining a labor patent.
The migration card is issued at the border by border guards. The foreigner is obliged to fill it in block letters, and indicate all reliable information about himself.

But since this card is one of the main documents allowing stay in the Russian Federation, many foreign nationals often doubt its authenticity. If you suspect that the paper is falsified, you can check the migration card for authenticity.
In appearance, it is impossible to check the migration card, since there are no special identification marks on the document except for the seal of the Federal Migration Service. But even this seal cannot serve as a sign of the authenticity of the migration card.
The authenticity of a migration card can only be verified by a unique number that is assigned to each document.
Location of the migration card number on the form
Authentication can be verified in several ways:
- By making a phone call to the migration service.
- By submitting an application to the migration service.
- Through the website of the migration service.
The first way is to call the FMS body and indicate the number and series of the identity card (the data of the document with which the person crossed the border and on the basis of which he filled out the card is indicated). After providing the data, you will have to wait a few minutes. The operator of the migration service will check the accuracy of the specified information, and will answer whether the document is real.
The second way is a personal visit to the body of the migration service in order to submit an application to determine the authenticity of the document. The application must be submitted at the place of registration. After submitting the application, you will need to wait a bit. The applicant will receive a written response on the organization's official letterhead.
The third way is to check through the portal. It's easy to check this way. It doesn't take long. Checks in this way are practiced by most of the migrants because of the fear of contacting the migration service.
It is also worth remembering that if, on the basis of a migration card, a foreigner has already received a patent allowing him to work on the territory of the Russian Federation, this means that the card is valid.
Step-by-step instruction:
- Initially, you should go to the server https://www.fms.gov.ru/banner.html. This is the site of the Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation.
- On the main page, select the section "Useful services of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Russia".
- Then, go to the "Migration Services" section.
- Next, select one of the functions called "Implementation of verification of the validity of invitations for entry into the Russian Federation of foreigners and stateless persons."
- After selecting this function, the following fields will open on the screen:
- "Invitation Number"
- "Series".
- « Form number.
All fields should be filled in in accordance with the migration card.
- After filling, you will need to enter a captcha. After the code is entered, you will need to click on the "send request" link. The server will independently check the data and return the result.
Document falsification
Falsification of migration cards is a rare phenomenon in the Russian Federation. But, nevertheless, for the provision of a false document, a foreign citizen faces punishment. Initially, the bearer of the false paper is detained by the migration service, then the offender is handed over to the police to clarify the details.
Depending on the situation, providing a falsified document threatens to impose a fine of up to 80,000 rubles or imprisonment for up to 180 days. And also the violator can be sent to work out, to corrective labor for two years.
If a foreign national commits another violation on the territory of the Russian Federation, he will be deported from Russia.
