Choose a good tent for 4 people. Choosing a tourist tent. How to choose a tent for rest

Finding the required manual is not difficult. Do you want to learn how to fish or collect chaga? 🙂 No questions asked! "Okay, Google ...". But not everything is so rosy. There is a lot of information, you will have to search, weed out unnecessary and outright delirium. Sometimes you spend more time searching than reading. We continue to share useful life hacks. And summer is vacation, hiking, picnics, beach and other joys.

Today's material is about choosing a tourist tent. Do you think it's a simple matter? Well, yes, you can go to a sporting goods store and buy, relying on the seller's advice. But we are not looking for easy ways, and where is the guarantee that they will not steal some garbage. So let's find out which tents are needed for family vacations, which ones will allow you to comfortably relax in the mountains and other nuances.

How to choose the right camping tent

It doesn't matter how many days you plan to be in nature - a few days or just spend the night. You can make a hut out of branches and climb into a sleeping bag, you can sit around a campfire at night. But what kind of rest is it ?! Moreover, the sleeping bag has obvious disadvantages:

  • Low level of comfort. If it protects from cold nights, then there is definitely no dew or rain. And to believe the forecasters ... you understand 🙂
  • Man is not immune to insects, rodents or snakes. A dubious joy to wake up among a crowd of ants.

So let's take the need to take a tent with us as an indisputable fact. Therefore, preparing for outdoor recreation, we will add this item to the list. And then we begin to think about the size, shape, water resistance and other useful "chips".

INTERESTING. According to the type of application, tents are divided into assault, expedition, camping, trekking, for base camps, beach and winter fishing. Already from the names one can assume material properties and configuration. For example, ice fishing models do not have a floor, they are made of special materials that keep heat well.

What are the types of tourist tents

You shouldn't rush to the store or order the first tent you like on the Web. To begin with, let's answer the question "How are we going to have a rest?" The answer depends on what we end up buying. By the way, the blow to the budget also depends on the type of rest 🙂 Suppose you like cultural rest - equipped playground, parking, availability of the Internet and other benefits. In this case, the choice is unambiguous. We buy a tent for a camping.

A good choice for traveling on wheels. Autotourism is an entertaining thing. In a short time, you can see a lot and have a good rest. And the temporary housing looks like it. As a rule, such models are large, high roof, vestibule and windows. It is easy for the whole family to live in such a tent for several days. The advantages are comfort and capacity. Of the minuses, we note the considerable weight and high heating costs.

Hikers or cycling enthusiasts do not need such a load. The lighter the tent, the more comfortable the rest. A trekking tent is ideal. A small shelter for installation on flat surfaces will allow you to relax in the forest, in the field, on sites near the hiking trail. In the general mass of things, it is absolutely invisible, especially for an experienced traveler. But it is not designed for gusts of wind and heavy rains.

IMPORTANT! The production of civilian tents is subject to the regulations of GOST 28917-91. Look at the description of the types of camping tents. Knowing the performance characteristics, it is easier to talk to sellers. Everything is scheduled according to materials, number of people, weather conditions, and so on.

Hiking in the mountains is difficult in itself, and no one will burden themselves with unnecessary things. If you want to experience the beauty of the mountains or go climbing, you will have to buy an assault tent. Similar models have taken better properties from other species. The assault tent is quickly set up and disassembled even faster. Weight is less than that of trekking models, and protection at altitude is not afraid of wind, rain and low temperatures. But here they are small, this is a minus.

Choosing the Right Camping Tent

When buying a tent for the first time, we make a common mistake. Manufacturers do not divide products by seasons. The real classification is somewhat simpler:

  • Summer tents. From the name it is clear that the thing is designed for hot weather. The main condition is good ventilation. This means ventilation windows and a mesh on the openings. And you also don't need a double construction. But this is the flaw. The light weight and strength will not allow to withstand the growing wind, the resistance to water flows also suffers.
  • Tents for three seasons. When do most of us go camping? That's right, in summer, autumn and spring. These models are designed specifically for these seasons. Durable materials with moisture-repellent impregnation are used, which means that the rain is not terrible. The design and weight allow you not to be afraid of gusty winds.
  • Tents for the winter. Such models have a second name - all-season. The manufacturers are not lying at all. Initially sharpened for cold weather, tents are easily used in summer. A bit hot, but not critical. It is very stable and does not leak at all. They keep warm well.

The choice is, in general, obvious. If you go out into nature only in summer, then we buy a tent of the first type. Avid fishermen, hunters or rafters are advised to purchase an all-season tent. You never know how things will turn out 🙂 Better to be prepared. And those who have devoted all their free time to tourism in any weather should not hesitate. Definitely a winter option. The situation is similar with winter fishing.

How to choose a tent for a family vacation. Determining the size

Do you know how the manufacturer labels products by capacity? Not a parrot 🙂 as in the famous cartoon. The name "single" means that a medium-sized adult man is comfortably accommodated in the tent. In a double, respectively, two and so on. Don't think that every brand uses the same man for tests. The average prover has a height of 170-180 centimeters and an athletic build.

And here comes the moment of truth. When buying products from the Chinese industry, it is better to look at the linear dimensions. Suddenly they were testing the tent by their size. Don't think this is a joke. Such situations are not uncommon. And in general, if you are buying a model for several people, do not be too lazy to study the sizes. Do not spend a lot of time, but a positive result is guaranteed.

ADVICE. Pay attention to the presence of a "skirt" - an additional strip of material around the perimeter. The element can be sewn in or removable. If you pile on the "skirt" spruce branches, stones or snow, you can increase the stability and thermal insulation. Assault tents are not produced without this element!

Now let's talk about the material. You can find two options: a single-layer model or a two-layer model. The water resistance of the tent is the same in both cases, but there are some nuances. Sometimes not very pleasant.

  • Single layer tents are made of waterproof materials. As a rule, this is a single canvas without seams or glues. Differs in ease of installation. A significant minus appears, for example, in hot weather after rain. Condensate. In old-style tents, one salvation is ventilation of the inner space. Otherwise, a wet sleeping bag. New developments from "smart" fabrics have appeared on the market. But there are few of them and they are expensive.
  • Two-layer models are made of two awnings - waterproof and breathable. The latter is placed from the inside. A gap of about 15 centimeters is left between the materials. The result is reliable protection from rain, wind and low temperatures. But the price to pay for comfort comes with a lot of weight. Most of the tents with a vestibule are double-layered.

Choosing a camping tent and more

It remains to decide on the design features and additional options. For example, windows. On the one hand, there is an overview. What to look at though? Bushes, tree roots, overgrown grass or heaps of stones? On the other hand, ventilation. And here are the questions. If the tent is single-layer, the entrance will be sufficient. If double-layered, additional ventilation is not needed. So it turns out that windows are needed only in camping models 🙂 You know comfort.

It is more difficult with the material, but only from ignorance of the names and properties. Often the names are self-explanatory, for example "Polyester". What if you see the Poly Taffeta 210T? There are sensations from the field of Star Wars or the production of terminators 🙂 If it's no joke, then only two types of artificial materials are used for the production of tents - polyamides and polyesters. This is the familiar nylon and polyester. Much depends on understanding the marking, including the water resistance of the tent.

The first material is cheap, but it holds ultraviolet light worse and stretches in the rain. Polyester is practically devoid of the drawbacks of its brother, but it costs several times more. It's not so critical for a tent for one or two people, but camping models vary greatly in price. Even in the marking indicates weaving. Rather, the type, density and impregnation. The mentioned "taffeta" is just the way of weaving. There are especially strong weaves and reinforcements.

DID YOU KNOW ... that the raincoat-tent descended from the cloak-epanches, which were used in the Russian army during the time of Peter I? First, in the second half of the 18th century, the epanchi got a hood. Towards the end of the 19th century, the raincoat of the tent takes the form that is familiar to us. The kit, for the soldiers and officers of the Red Army, included: a waterproof canvas 1.8 by 1.8 meters, a composite stand, pegs and a rope for lacing.

The numbers in the name of the material indicate the density. This is how the manufacturer determines the strength of the awnings. The larger the value, the stronger the fabric. But also harder, respectively. Thread thickness may be indicated. Here the dependence with mass is the same as that of density. We advise you to pay special attention to the impregnation. Manufacturers use two substances - polyurethane and silicone. The first goes to the inner surface, the second to the outer.

It would seem that everything is elementary. But! It matters not only what the fabric is impregnated with, but also how many layers of impregnation are made. Two layers of polyurethane give water resistance to 300 centimeters of a column of water, three layers are already 500 centimeters. For the outer surface, impregnation is considered the best option, which holds 200 centimeters of the water column. What happens? For a one-year hike 🙂 a medium-weight nylon tent and silicone impregnation is sufficient.

Types of tourist tents

It remains to say about the design features. Minor differences aside, there are three types of tents in shape:

  • In the form of a hemisphere. The awning is stretched over a structure of two or three arcs. The elements intersect with each other and form the basis of the hemisphere. A popular type of tents, both among hikers and extreme sports enthusiasts. The water does not linger and the windage is very low;

  • In the form of a half roll. This shape is given to multi-person tents with a vestibule. Good option for camping. But in unsettled places it is better not to use it - low resistance to wind;

  • In the form of a house. This form is considered classic. The most commonly used type of camping tent. Two slopes allow you not to think about precipitation, but the windage of the structure is higher than that of a hemisphere. But the main disadvantage is different - the complexity of the installation. Why bother when you can buy a model that is easy to install and disassemble?

Choosing a tourist tent

There is knowledge, money has been accumulated 🙂 going to the store will not matter. But there is no need to rush. Here are some clever tips to help you buy a quality tent and save money.

  • New items differ not so much in materials or technologies as in design and price. Models of the past or the year before last are no worse, but sometimes they are several times cheaper.
  • A promoted brand costs money. The truth is common, but we forget about it. Let the name of the company be unfamiliar. The main thing is that the performance characteristics are arranged and in reality they are.
  • It's a good idea to browse the targeted forums, check out reviews, or chat with your fellow tourists live. If there is an opportunity to borrow a tent from a friend, use 🙂 You will definitely understand whether it suits you or not.

IMPORTANT! The floor is made of the same material as the entire tent, only more densely woven or reinforced. In the characteristics, the manufacturer indicates the required data. We advise you to pay attention - to set up the tent to fall on stones, grass or uneven ground.

Well, I bought a tent. The backpack was collected. Eh, let's rest! Do not hurry. We advise you to collect and disassemble your purchase of a house several times. It will be easier on the hike. Check the seams, or rather go over them with a water-repellent compound. It won't get any worse. And lastly, after returning from a hike, dry your tent thoroughly. And you will be happy for many years 🙂

Have a nice rest and good weather! And how and where to rest

KNP club

My material will be useful to those who are puzzled by the choice of a tent for the first time and who want to approach this process more consciously. Here's how to choose a camping tent designed for camping, fishing, hiking and travel from a few days to longer. I do not consider tents for specific and extreme conditions: I have no such experience.

About appointment

We will analyze here only the choice of a tourist (trekking) tent. These are tents used by travelers, hikers, cyclists, hikers, fishermen, hunters and other mobile people. Such tents are capable of carrying with you for many days, setting them up quickly, quickly disassembling them. Actually the entire article "How to choose a tourist tent" is dedicated to them.

Main characteristics

To choose the right camping tent, you have to figure out its characteristics. It's not difficult at all and even interesting. Having correctly selected these characteristics "for yourself", you, firstly, will remain healthy, and secondly, you will rationally spend your money.

Number of seats

Classic tourist camping tent for 2 persons. A single seat can already be perceived as extreme, and a 3-seat one as a camping one. But this is definitely a rough judgment, it all depends on the situation. For how many places to choose a tent, you will have to decide for yourself from your needs. For example, I have two types of tents in terms of roominess for different situations, but two-bed is the main and most demanded one.

The approximate dimensions of the various comfortable sleeping places are shown in my picture below.

Some reflections and observations from experience

  • A double tent is the most versatile option. When you decide to choose a camping tent, remember that a two-person tent can be used for solo trips, for traveling together, and even for three. If desired, it can accommodate more people. A living example is our overnight stay, when four medium-sized adults spent the night in a two-person cheap Chinese tent. Uncomfortable, but warm.
  • It is good when you are autonomous while traveling. Even if my fellow traveler takes a two-person tent with him, I will also strive to take my own tent in order to be completely independent.
  • A single tent will always find a place for its installation: it is easier to find a 1x2 m site than a 2x2 m one.
  • The number of places for the tent is assigned on the basis of a comfortable stay in it, but in reality three of us can spend the night in a 2-person tent, in a 3-person tent four of us. In principle, it is possible to spend the night with a larger number of people, but this is already according to the principle "if only to change the edge somehow."

Weight

When thinking about how to choose a camping tent, be sure to pay attention to its mass. This is a very important characteristic for those who will carry their things themselves and at the same time walk far and for a long time, less critical for cyclists and motorists. The less weight with the same other characteristics, the more expensive the tent. So motorists are very lucky in this regard: you can reasonably save. In general, if the weight of the tent is more than 3 kg, its place is in the trunk of the car, and not in the backpack of the traveler, who would be better off looking for something closer to 2 kg. But for two or three, the weight of the tent of 3-5 kg is, as it were, scattered on everyone.

Although situations may be different. For example, I have to lug around a 3.2kg three-person tent because there is no lighter budget alternative, and a two-person tent for a family of four (2 adults + 2 children) is too small.

The optimal weights of budget and high-quality tents are roughly distributed as follows:

You are unlikely to find a budget lighter option without sacrificing quality. But motorists, as I said, are lucky: their weight is not critical, which expands the options for choice. They can opt for a heavier but decent performance camping tent made from heavy, cheap but reliable materials.

Number of layers of tourist tent

Single layer tent- a tent in one layer of material, which is an awning. Ventilation takes place through a small window at the top of the tent, covered with a cape.

  • Pros: cost, weight, the tent is quickly set up and removed.
  • Minuses: more condensation accumulates, among the representatives of such tents there are a lot of low-quality Chinese consumer goods.

There are times when the choice of such a tent is justified.

Double layer tent consists of an inner tent (first layer) and an awning (second layer). A gap is formed between these two layers when setting up the tent, which provides ventilation and condensate drainage outside the living area. The inner tent is breathable (ventilated), and the awning protects the residents from rain and wind.

The inner tent can be set up separately (no awning). We sometimes do this when it's hot during the day so that the tent is blown out, and we sleep without an awning when it's stuffy.

  • Pros: less condensation.
  • Minuses: more expensive, heavier, the tent is set up and removed a little longer.

As you understand, all these troubles with two layers are mostly due to condensation. When the tent is not sufficiently ventilated, water droplets accumulate on the walls. If there are a lot of them, then it is very uncomfortable - it is damp. And in winter, frost forms in the tent. Choosing a camping tent with two layers will minimize these adverse events to the maximum.

Awning (second layer of the tent)

I recommend that you take the water resistance of the awning seriously. Actually, this is its main purpose. Simply put: one awning will allow water to pass through in a rainstorm, while the other will not get wet. Numerically, this is expressed in the maximum height of the water column (mm w.c.), which the awning material can withstand.

If I am now asked how to choose a tourist tent and correctly take into account the numerical value of the water resistance of the awning, then I recommend, in general, to take tents with an indicator of at least 3000 mm h.c. A gusty wind and a half-hour downpour my personal tent with such characteristics endured, the rest of the rains were normal, he coped with them too. There are no complaints yet.

Start off from this value - 3000 mm h.st. For myself, I decided this: if the tent needs to be used in places where rains are rare, then you can underestimate the indicator, and if there is a likelihood of serious rains in a strong wind, then it's not a sin to play it safe and lay at least 5000 mm h.st. in the tent.

Among the materials for the awning, polyester is in the lead, surpassing nylon in its characteristics. A suspicious attitude has developed towards tents made of membrane fabric. This fabric is two-in-one: it “breathes” and at the same time has a water-repellent property. Many people believe that over time, the fabric becomes dirty and loses these advantages.

The fabric of the awning can be impregnated with polyurethane (in a simple way, rubber). Fabrics with this impregnation are labeled as PU.

Bottom

Here again, it is important to pay attention to water resistance. The characteristic is the same - in millimeters of water column. Decent water resistance of the bottom starts from 3000 mm w.st. Now I have tents with an indicator of 5000 mm h.c. - I kind of re-mortgaged. I did not try to put them in a puddle specially (although you can check it in the future), but they were placed on wet soil after rain. Everything is dry.

The strength of the material is another important thing to look out for. The floor load is always high. Firstly, we walk on the floor ourselves, and secondly, it is not always possible to prepare a site for a tent: to remove branches, cones, sharp stones that can break through the bottom.

How to choose a camping tent based on the bottom material? In budget tents, reinforced polyethylene is used, which increases their weight, in more expensive and lighter tents, nylon and polyester are used.

I now have polyester bottom tents. Visually, the bottom is very thin, and it seems that if any strong knot comes across, it is about to pierce the bottom. But so far there have been no punctures, maybe because I always try to prepare the place for the tent as carefully as possible, or maybe because of the sufficient strength of the material.

There used to be a cheap Chinese tent with a reinforced polyethylene bottom. Really strong material, but it loses great weight.

Tent shape

How to choose a camping tent based on its shape? Which is better? The question is philosophical, and it all depends on where and how it will be used. However, the pulusphere is the most common and popular form of tent, which has proven itself worthy. The design and shape of such a tent is very convenient and has good properties: it is quickly installed and disassembled, it has good wind resistance. But the most important thing is that it can be placed on any surface: sand, stones.

To travel to the Middle East, I was looking for a tent of this design: it does not have to be stretched by driving the pegs into the ground.

I will not talk about other forms of tents here. But if you have a desire, you can get acquainted with them on a separate page. I went through this issue in detail

Arc tent

How to choose a camping tent, considering the material of the arches? The frame of the tent is assembled from the arches. Required properties: lightness and strength, and in winter they should not yet become brittle in the cold.

  • Arcs from aluminum alloys are leading in popularity. I represent alloys for arcs according to the increasing price-quality characteristic: the cheapest and least quality alloy D16T, alloy B95 is slightly better, then there are alloys with the addition of zinc (marking 7xxx) or magnesium (marking 6xxx), and the last word in tent construction belongs to the alloy with the addition of scandium (marking Sc). If the arcs are anodized, then T6 is added to the marking.
  • Arcs from carbon fiber(carbon fiber) lightweight and durable.
  • Arcs from fiberglass lightweight, durable, cheap, but fragile in the cold.

additional characteristics

Storm guards

In calm weather, I may not use them - I just throw the awning over the tent and that's it. But when there is a wind, and even more so a strong wind, and even with rain, then it is simply necessary to stretch and fix the tent, otherwise it can be carried away by the wind. In an amicable way, it is necessary to do this even in calm weather, because an unstretched awning touches the inner tent, and the ventilation property and condensate drainage from this decrease.

Mosquito net

No comment. Until the bloodsuckers are listed in the Red Book, it is better that the tent has a fine mosquito net.

Hanging shelves and interior pockets

A very useful little thing. I put my glasses on a hanging shelf at night so as not to crush them while sleeping, or I attach a flashlight for lighting. Internal pockets help fight the chaos of small items. When I first thought about how to choose a tourist tent, I simply did not pay attention to the presence or absence of these devices - I was lucky, they were there. Many manufacturers supplement their models with them by default, but it will not be superfluous to check.

The presence of a vestibule

A tambour is something like a non-residential separate compartment in a tent. It can be very large, it can be slightly marked, or it can be absent altogether. Depending on the size of the vestibule, it can be used for various purposes: you can store equipment in it, leave shoes, dishes, hide a bicycle there, prepare food.

Since I keep track of the weight of my backpack, in my tents the vestibule is either completely absent or tiny. By the way, I try not to leave things in it at night, otherwise you can wake up without equipment. Once in Turkey in the morning I did not find my shoes: the dogs were stolen.

Sealing seams

To prevent water from entering the tent at the seams, they are glued or boiled in high-quality tents. Welded seams are more reliable than glued seams. You can choose a camping tent without sealing the seams: you can glue the seams yourself with a special tape. In general, of course, this requires skill, but if you want to get confused with this, then you will find the tape in tourist stores.

Conclusion

I hope I was able to clarify the question "How to choose a camping tent" for you. You may have noticed that the explanations for the selection were conducted mostly around the hemisphere tent. This does not mean that other forms have no right to exist. It's just that the hemisphere is most in demand and popular (in second place is the half roll), and the described characteristics are applicable to all forms, without exception. Well, this is the same as the characteristic "engine displacement", it is important for all cars, regardless of their brand.

Fans of hiking, mountain climbing, autotravels and just outdoor recreation must include a tent in their equipment. Its design, weight, dimensions, protection from adverse weather conditions depend on the purpose, season of operation, and the number of residents. These can be one-, two- or even three-layer models, and the last two varieties are considered the most adapted to the difficult camping life. They are most often found on sale, they are most in demand. However, for the summer, a short stay on flat terrain, reliable options for single-layer structures are also quite suitable.

When choosing, you should pay attention to the wear resistance and working qualities of the material of each of the layers, if there are several of them, the drying time from condensation, the method of placing the frame. The internal location allows you to quickly dry the tent from moisture, but such models take a little longer to assemble. For the external fastening of arcs, the opposite situation is characteristic.

As for the forms of popular devices for tourism, manufacturers offer such types as a sphere / hemisphere, a barrel / half-roll, a cube, an umbrella, a less common house, or combined. Our ranking is based on the target principle of using collapsible tourist housing, according to which it is easy to choose the ideal model.

Air exchange in the tent is supported by special ventilation holes, which minimizes the likelihood of condensation. Despite the absence of ordinary windows, it is quite light inside, since the awning is made in the appropriate color scheme. There is no vestibule, but all small things fit well in the existing side pockets and on hanging shelves. The quick-assembly tourist structure is additionally equipped with storm guards.

Useful tips for choosing a camping tent:

  • Single layer or double layer tent? Each option has its own pros and cons. Single-layer have a one-piece awning, therefore they weigh a little. True, without ventilation, condensation often forms in them. Two-layer ones consist of an outer and an inner (breathable) awning, between which there are about 10 cm. Such models are heavier, but no condensation will accumulate inside.
  • There are usually two types of materials used in tents: nylon and polyester. The former is less durable, does not protect against UV rays and is vulnerable to rain, but is inexpensive. The second is much stronger, is not afraid of moisture, has UV protection, but is more expensive in price.
  • The bottom of the tent must be resistant to mechanical damage, wear-resistant and waterproof. Most often it is made from the same materials as the awning. To increase the strength and reliability, weaving of Oxford or Rip Stop threads is used (reinforced thread that does not weigh down the structure)
  • The design of the tent should be appropriate for the tasks. The "house" variant has already become a classic, but it cannot compete with modern forms. These tents are unstable in the wind and difficult to set up. The half roll is preferred for camping. Such models will not survive in all bad weather. They are spacious and often have a vestibule. The "hemisphere" variant is the most common. It ensures good dripability of drops and snow, guarantees strong stability even in strong gusts of wind.
  • Consider the weight of the tent. If you are going to go to the mountains, then it is worth choosing the best option. For long hikes with backpacks, lightweight models are also needed. But for travel by car, heavier structures are also suitable.

The vacation season is in full swing, a little more and the string of Khabarovsk residents will stretch on. There are those who like to rest as "savages". Today this is the most affordable option for a trip to the sea: money for gasoline + 100-300 rubles for a place for a tent - and a week by the sea is guaranteed for you. To make camping conditions as comfortable as possible, you need a tent. Good, reliable, preferably spacious and with a mosquito net.

How to choose a tent for rest

The most budgetary vacation by the sea "savage". The main thing is that the tent does not let you down.

Tents in Khabarovsk today can be bought in specialized tourist shops. We went there. The choice is huge - sizes, shapes, colors and prices. How not to get confused and pick up what you need?

Where exactly will you camp with your tent? - asked the very first and, as it turned out, the most important question to us, the sports store consultant Evgeny Klimov.

For recreation on the seashore, especially if it is an equipped campground with car parking, a camping tent is perfect. It is large and spacious - up to 170 centimeters in height.

A large camping tent can live for days or even weeks

Such tents are intended for auto tourism, there are those where you can stand even at full height, put a table and chairs, fix it with a car, - explains Evgeny. - It is well suited for a multi-day vacation with a large company. But it is worth considering that it is heavy and difficult to assemble.

Another type of tents is trekking. Unlike the previous one, it is small but lightweight.

But in the rain and in strong winds it can fail, - the consultant warns. - In such a good time to rest for a few days on the bank of a quiet river, by the fire.

A small tourist or trekking tent designed for an overnight stay in hiking conditions

How to determine the size?

How many people do you need a tent? - the next clarifying question was asked by the consultant.

But in reality, people are different, some are taller, some are larger. Therefore, you need to select it individually - that is, climb into the tent and see if it is convenient? The other day, two girls bought a tent from us, so it turned out that a two-seater was not enough for them, they chose a larger one, - says the consultant.

To sleep in the tent more comfortably, it is best to purchase additional sleeping bags and mats.

Wind and rain protection

To do this, according to our tent guru, you need to pay attention to the number of layers of your shelter - one or two. Better, of course, if there are two of them.

Single layer tents are made of waterproof awning. It is easier to set up such a tent because it is made of a single canvas. But there is a minus: condensation forms on the walls. It is imperative to ventilate. There are membrane awnings on sale, they "breathe" and are not blown out. But the price is much more expensive, - says Evgeny.

The most reliable thing, given the unpredictability of seaside weather, is a tent, consisting of two layers. The first is a waterproof tarpaulin and the second is an inner breathable material. There is a gap of 10 centimeters between them.

Such a tent protects well from rain, there is a vestibule in it, where all the garbage and sand will remain, there you can leave shoes or store things, - explains our expert. - But it's heavier.

Do you need windows?

According to the expert, the windows in the tent do not carry any functionality. But they do affect the price. And you can also air your sea "house" through the entrance. The main thing is to have a mosquito net on it.

Material: what is the tent made of?

20D Si / Pu RipStop Nylon, 1200mm; 7D Si / Pu RipStop nylon, 1200 mm - such a set of numbers and letters will enter into a stupor of any tent beginner. But, as it turned out, only at first glance. In fact, everything is not so difficult. The consultant explained to us that here information is encrypted about what fabric the tent is made of, what is the thickness of the threads and how they are woven, and the level of water resistance is indicated.

Let's start with the fabrics. There are only two types of them: polyamide (nylon) and polyester (polyester). Which one to choose?

Nylon is cheaper, has good stretch and is UV-permeable and strong long-term rainfall. Polyester is more durable and withstands wetness better. This also affects its price, - says Eugene.

Parameters such as the density of weaving and the thickness of the threads are also important. Here, the higher the number, the stronger the tent. And harder.

It is also worth paying attention to the impregnation. It is available in polyurethane (PU) and silicone (SI). They both protect from moisture, just the second is more durable and expensive. Polyurethane is applied on the inside, silicone on the outside. The number of impregnation layers affects the water resistance. For example, three layers are indicated as 3000 mm and can withstand heavy rain, explains Evgeniy.

The characteristics of the bottom of the tent are indicated separately on the label. Because this is the weakest point, it will experience enormous stress during the entire rest. And therefore it is best that the waterproofness of the bottom of the tent is always higher than the indicators of the outer awning.

Some tents have a "skirt" - an additional bottom layer that prevents the wind from blowing and rainfall, - explains Evgeniy. - A handy thing in case of installation on a sandy shore.

Tent shape: which one to choose?

The hemisphere shape is more resistant to wind and rain.

The most popular tent is the hemisphere. This can withstand strong winds, water rolls off it perfectly, the main disadvantage is the height of no more than a meter. If you want a taller tent, choose a half roll. But the arcs of this, unlike the hemisphere, do not intersect, so it does not differ in particular stability. But there is a vestibule. If the weather promises to be calm, this is the best option for a seaside holiday, - says Evgeny Klimov. - There are shawls - "houses". Rain rolls down well from them, but collecting it is more difficult than everyone else.

A large two-room tent will cost from 10 thousand rubles and more in Khabarovsk.

After purchase, all seams of the tent must be treated with a water-repellent spray. Extra moisture protection comes in handy. And after returning from the hike, you must definitely dry it well.

As for waterproofing, our expert advised us to choose a tent of at least 3000-5000 mm for a sea trip. According to Evgeny, this one is capable of surviving strong, but not prolonged, coastal rains.

To make the tent comfortable at any time of the day or night, do not forget about mosquito nets and lanterns.

Prices for tents in Khabarovsk

An average quality two-three-person tent in Khabarovsk costs 5-6 thousand rubles. The cost increases with the number of seats. For example, we came across a large 5-seater scarf for 13 thousand rubles. You can find Chinese-made tents on the market. Here we can only guess about the composition of fabrics and moisture protection, we did not find any signs on the labels, except for hieroglyphs. But the prices are also somewhat lower. For the simplest two-person tent, merchants ask for two thousand rubles. Large, camping for three will cost 3-4 thousand rubles. However, you can always bargain here.

Going on vacation in the bosom of nature, you will need such an attribute as a tent. The question of choosing a tent is quite complicated and depends on many different factors. Each tent has its own specific parameters and features: the number of places, entrances and vestibules, water resistance, quality of fittings and seams, quality of impregnation. Depending on these indicators, the price of tents is also set. It ranges from $ 10 to $ 800. Very often tourists, fishermen and hunters ask themselves a question - « What kind of tent to choose.

Below we will focus on the main types of tents and describe the key points to which you should first pay attention.

The most common types of tents are tourist and camping.

Tourist tents

Capacity. This characteristic is the most important when choosing a tent. There are no big problems in this matter. In most cases, the person who is going to buy a tent knows very well how many places he needs the tent. The most ideal option is a 3-4 person tent. In such a tent it will be quite comfortable for two people, but under extreme conditions such a tent can even accommodate six people. Tent manufacturers indicate the number of places based on the most comfortable conditions.

The number of layers. The second important factor when buying a tent is the number of layers. The main number of models that are offered to customers are two-layer ones. In such tents, a sleeping compartment is installed separately, which is made of mesh fabric, and then an awning is installed on it. The design of these tents is good for the following reasons:

1. There is good air circulation inside the tent, since the sleeping compartment, made of mesh, allows fresh air to pass through well, which enters the cracks between the lower edge of the tent and the ground. The outer awning provides good protection from the rain.
2. Possibility to install an external awning without a sleeping compartment. This situation is possible if you plan to use the tent not for sleeping, but for storing things. It is much easier to install the awning itself than together with the sleeping compartment.

Single-layer tents are a little less interesting and are designed primarily for fishermen and for fans of out-of-town rest with an overnight stay. You can buy such a tent just in case. The price of such a tent is no more than $ 80. Well, we shouldn't talk about quality, it wants to be the best.

Water resistance. Now let's dwell on such an indicator as water resistance. It is difficult to imagine what "3000mm" or "8000mm" is, but in the water resistance column this indicator indicates which column of water can withstand the outer tent of the tent without letting water inside. Buyers are presented with tents with a water resistance index of 800mm - these are camping, expeditionary or inexpensive fishing options. With an indicator of 8000mm, these are already four-season expedition tents. For summer vacations, it is best to purchase a tent model with a water resistance rating of 1500mm. For multi-day hikes and the spring / fall period, a tent with a 3000-4000mm water resistance option is best suited. Well, if you are going to make an alpine ascent or travel during the rainy season, then the option with an indicator of 8000mm will suit you most of all. Such a tent does not get wet even in the strongest downpour, in addition, they have a protective skirt that serves to prevent water from flowing under the outer awning.

Tambour and the number of entrances. These characteristics do not require any special understanding. The tambour is used to store backpacks and shoes, and the number of entrances does not play a fundamental role, since in almost all cases one entrance is enough.

Mosquito net. This characteristic can hardly be overestimated. Most double-layer tents have a "door" and the compartment itself is made of mosquito nets. It is very convenient with it in summer, when it is hot even at night, and you can leave the vestibule "door" open and fasten the sleeping compartment netting. This protects against annoying insects and creates additional ventilation for the tent.

Arcs. Nowadays, arch tents, which are made of aluminum or fiberglass, are very popular. They vary in weight and price. Aluminum is lighter than fiberglass and more expensive by 10-15%. But in most cases, tourists still prefer tents, which include fiberglass arches.

We got acquainted with the main indicators, and now we should turn our attention to a number of little things that will create a number of conveniences on trips.

Fluorescent stretch marks. These stretch marks are coated with reflective compounds and are visible even in low light. When passing by the tent, you will never get caught on the guy line.
- Impregnation of the tent with solutions that prevent the spread of fire. Campfires are always made on hikes and the importance of such an addition is quite understandable.
- Internal pockets. It is advisable to have them inside the sleeping area. There you can put a flashlight, documents and a number of small items necessary for hiking. Some tent models have a mesh shelf that can be used instead of pockets.
- Bonding seams. This is a pretty important indicator. In heavy rain, the holes made during sewing may allow water to pass inside. Therefore, you should always pay attention to the gluing of the seams.

That's pretty much everything there is to know about camping tents.

Camping tents

Such tents are already large in size, they have several sleeping compartments, a large vestibule and often have several entrances. These tents are suitable for long-term recreation of large companies. These tents can be easily deployed, and in some especially large tents, you can even set a table for the whole company, and sometimes you can hide the car too.

When choosing a camping tent, you should follow the same rules as when choosing a camping tent. But there are some differences.

Capacity. Camping tents are designed for four or more people. The most spacious model can accommodate ten people.

The number of layers. The number of layers in camping tents has a slightly different meaning. In most cases, sleeping compartments are installed after installing the main awning. In some cases, they may not be installed. The tent can be used as a "bedroom" and as a "garage". Therefore, for such tents, the number of layers is a relative characteristic.

Water resistance. In most cases, the water resistance of camping tents is rarely higher than 3000mm. First of all, this is due to the situation that they are used in most cases when the weather is fine, so there is no point in buying a super-waterproof tent for a summer holiday. Who will go with family or friends to relax during the rainy season?

Tambour and the number of entrances. For a camping tent, the vestibule is a very important indicator. You can arrange a dining room or kitchen in it. The height of the vestibules is often higher than 1.8 m, which makes it possible for many to stand at full height. If the vestibule is used for a warehouse or something else, then it will be quite difficult to go through such a vestibule. Therefore, the second entrance for such tents is irreplaceable.

The number of sleeping compartments. This indicator becomes fundamental for family vacations, because you can safely allocate one sleeping compartment to children. And when you have a company, it will be quite convenient to divide the sleeping compartments in pairs. Tents, in which sleeping compartments can be placed separately, are also convenient in that the number of compartments can be changed in them, and thus you can free up space for other purposes - a dining room, a kitchen, for gatherings. Camping models are presented to the attention of buyers, which have from one to three sleeping compartments.
