How to get from Trat to Koh Chang

Trat is an important transit point between the island and other cities in Thailand, as well as Cambodia. The main transport hubs are the city's airport and bus station.

Planes from Bangkok arrive at the airport several times a day. You can get from there to Koh Chang by orange songteos, minibus, or taxi.

How to get from Phuket to Koh Chang

There are no direct buses, minibuses, ferries or planes between Koh Chang and Phuket. First you need to get to Bangkok, from which you can fly by plane or take a bus.

How to get to Koh Chang from Cambodia

First of all, people are interested in how to get to Koh Chang from Siem Reap (next to which is the Angkor Wat temple complex) and Sihanoukville.

From Siem Reap and Sihanoukville

The city's street travel agencies have a fairly large geography, often there are transfers to Koh Chang. If you don't find one, you can take a ticket to the border. Arriving, crossing it and finding yourself in Thailand, you can easily find agencies that have minibuses to the island. And there are always minivans going to the border near the border. And then you have to change to a songteo, which will take you to the pier in half an hour.

It's even easier to get from Sihanoukville - this destination is even more popular. Any city agency has transfers to Koh Chang. First, the bus takes you to the border, then you change on the Thai side to a minibus and it is already going to the Center Point pier (on the way it can call at the Trat bus station). Sometimes along the way, he stops at a Thai travel agency, where a transfer is offered for a fee directly to the hotel. If you don't want to, then the minibus reaches the Center Point pier on the mainland, you are given a ferry ticket and then on your own - for the songteo from Koh Chang pier to the beach.

How to get from Koh Chang to Siem Reap and Sihanoukville

Siem Reap and Angkor are very popular destinations, with many heading there from Koh Chang. All travel agencies on the island offer a transfer, the price starts from 400 baht. First, you are picked up from the hotel, then the minibus takes you to the border, and from the Cambodian side, a bus will be waiting for you, which goes to Siem Reap.

In Sihanoukville, there are also transfers according to a similar scheme. Inquire at travel agencies in Koh Chang.

Piers on Koh Chang and the mainland

In the north of the island there are two piers where all ships from the mainland arrive: Ao Sapparot (Feery Koh Chang) and Center Point (Center Point or Dan Khao). There are also two piers on the mainland - Ao Thammachat (Ao Tammachat, from which ferries go to Ao Sapparot) and Center Point (to Center Point on the island). There are others (like Laem Ngop Fishing Jetty), but there you can only buy tickets for ferries departing from Center Point, and they themselves do not serve tourists. From Laem Sok pier there is water transport only to the islands and.

When you arrive at one of the piers on Koh Chang, there will be stands that are transported around the island. All prices are firm and are written upon entering the car. The prices to get there are as follows:

  • - 50 baht,
  • - 60 baht,
  • - 70 baht
  • - 80 baht,
  • -100 baht,
  • - 120 baht.

Ao Thammachat pier

Ao Thammachat is the most famous and most popular pier on the mainland, from which you can get to Koh Chang. It is located in the province of Trat, in the Laem Ngop sub-region. Most buses and minivans from Bangkok and Pattaya arrive here. Ferries leave from it to the Ao Sapparot pier on Koh Chang. Travel time - 25 minutes, fare - 100 baht. You can cross by motorbike and car. Ferries leave every half hour from 6:30 am to 7 pm.

Center Point Pier

Center Point Pier is also located in Laem Ngop, about 15 km from the previous one. From here, ferries run exclusively to Center Point on Koh Chang. Travel time 55 minutes. They leave for the island every hour from 6 am to 7 pm (6 am, 7 am, 8 am, etc.). Similarly, the first flight to the mainland also starts at 6:00, the second at 7:30, the third at 8:30, etc. every hour. The ticket price is 80 baht one way and 120 baht both. The cost of a ferry ticket for a motorbike is 30 and 50 baht, respectively, a car - for 100 and 180 baht. Small children are free. It is better not to count on a flight from the mainland at 19 o'clock, since it is sometimes canceled. Also, don't rely on the last flight from Koh Chang to the mainland at 19:30.

The pier is the closest to, so if you flew there by plane or reached its bus station by bus, then all tuk-tuks from there will take you to this pier, and not to Ao Tammachat, which is further away.

Laem Ngop Fishing Jetty Pier

Often referred to simply as Laem Ngop is located 5 km east of Center Point Pier. Tuk-tuks do not bring tourists here and on their own (by car, motorbike) also does not make much sense to come, except for the sake of a lighthouse or to spend the night, and in the morning go to Koh Chang.

Near the pier is a travel agency that sells tickets to Koh Chang from Center Point Pier. There is a small divorce here, but not in terms of prices, but in the sense that they will prove to you that with these tickets you can go from any pier and return to any pier as well (as mentioned above, Center Point is less preferable, since drive to the island for about an hour). In fact, these tickets cannot travel from Ao Thammachat to Ao Sapparot, only from Center Point. Also, this office sells tickets for ferries to the islands (350 baht regular boat and 450 high-speed boat), (300 and 450), (350 and 600 baht, respectively).

If you are hungry, there is a nice restaurant on the pier where crabs floating in the aquarium will be cooked on your order. The prices are not high.

Koh Chang is located in the south-east direction from the Thai capital, 350 km away. There are no airports or bus stations on the island, so in order to get to it, you will in any case have to combine land or air transport with a ferry. There are quite a few ways to get from Bangkok to Koh Chang. Each of them has advantages and disadvantages. I will cover all the available methods.

The closest "air gate" to the island is the airport in Trat. Direct flights from Trat can be made thanks to Bangkok Airways, which has three daily flights on the route. To date, the planes leave the capital at 8:20, 11:40 and 17:00.

Travel time will be exactly one hour, and the average ticket price fluctuates around $ 100-120. Several seats from each flight are sold at a promotional price, which is about 30% less than usual. You need to hurry up to get on the list of lucky ones who bought tickets at a discount. To find tickets at a bargain price, I recommend using the low price calendar. Thanks to him, you will immediately see what day the lowest prices for flights are.

Transfer from Trat Airport directly to Koh Chang has several options. The cheapest way is to take a songteo ride to the pier where the ferry departs to the island. In this case, you will have to pay 100 baht. For 400 baht, you can ride a mini-bass, which for its price will take you not to the pier, but to a certain beach on the island. Those who value time and comfort can turn to taxi drivers who will take you to the desired point for 2,000 baht.

By bus

As in the case of an airplane, a bus transfer involves a transfer in the city of Trat. Today, flights in the desired direction are carried out from Bangkok's Ekamai and MoChit bus stations. The first of them is located in the eastern part of the capital, the second is in the northern direction. These bus terminals are located in the immediate vicinity of the metro stations of the same name, so it is very easy to find them. The road to Trat will take about 5-6 hours.

From the Ekamai bus station, you can get to Trat using the services of several carriers:

  • Government Bus. The final destination of these buses is the pier, from which ferries depart directly to Koh Chang. There are only two flights - at 7:45 and 9:45. On the way, there is a mandatory stop at the terminal of Suvarnabhumi airport. The trip will cost tourists 275 baht. In the opposite direction, the bus leaves at 13:30 from the Tratsk bus station and at 14:00 from the stop at the ferry crossing.
  • Tanakawee. This carrier operates six daily flights in both directions. The fare is 265 baht.
  • Cherdchai Tour. The company tries to reach as many passengers as possible, so its buses run in both directions every hour from 5 am to 11 pm. Price - 265 baht.

As for the MoChit bus terminal, here we meet the same carriers Cherdchai and Tanakawee, which operate seven daily flights for two.

You can buy a complex ticket at the bus station and via the Internet on the portal. The ticket includes not only travel to Trat, but also the ferry to Koh Chang. Ticket prices on the website are the same as at bus stations.

The price of the travel document usually includes a bottle of mineral water and a minimum snack in the form of snacks, cookies or muffins.

By minibus

Minibuses, unlike regular regular buses, are a faster and more comfortable way to travel. You can buy tickets for minibuses at travel agencies or at the front desk of almost any Bangkok hotel. In essence, the traveler buys a transfer to the desired location. Minibuses are shipped from a dozen places, but Koasan Road is considered the most popular and democratic in terms of prices. Due to high competition, each carrier strives to lure the client with promotions and discounts. Usually the price for a transfer starts at 400 baht (13 USD) and can reach 1000 baht. In the latter case, the price includes food, a ferry ticket and delivery to the desired hotel.

To navigate the prices, it is better to spend half an hour of your free time bypassing several companies offering minibus rides. With a successful combination of circumstances, for 500 baht it is quite possible to get not only to the ferry crossing, but also to a certain hotel on the island. You can save a few hundred baht by buying a round-trip ticket. It is especially convenient to purchase travel documents in which the date of the return trip remains open, which allows you to determine the time of your stay on the island yourself.

In addition to "transfer" minibuses, there are also their "cruise" counterparts. They usually leave from the Victory Monument and the fare starts at 400 baht, which is comparable to offers on Koasan Road.

How to get from Suvarnabhumi Airport?

Directly from the airport, bus number 392 and a huge number of minibuses departs, which for 600 baht will quickly deliver travelers directly to the beaches of Ko Chang. The round-trip ticket costs 900 baht. Tickets cannot be booked in advance - they are sold directly at the airport terminal on the ground floor near Gate 8.

There is another, longer, but significantly cost-saving option. First, you need to take a free shuttle to the nearest bus station, through which passing buses follow. In this case, transport will take you only to the pier in Trat, but the ticket price will be 260-270 baht, which is half the cost of travel directly from the airport. The time consumption will increase by about 30-60 minutes.

How to get from Don Muang airport?

There is no direct transport from Don Muang to Koh Chang. Buses 10, 29, 510, 528 can get you for 20 baht to the Victory Monument metro station, from where minibuses are periodically sent to the island at a cost of 400 baht or more. Travel time is 5-6 hours.

Bus 59 will take you from Don Muang to Khao San Road, where backpackers usually gather. The price to Koh Chang from Khaosan Road will be 400-600 baht, usually this cost includes a ferry ride.

Bus 13 also stops at the airport and runs to Ekamai Station.

By taxi

Taxi trips, although they are very expensive, are especially convenient for people vacationing with family and company. The road from Bangkok or the airport to the ferry will cost an average of 3,500-5,000 baht. If you divide this cost by three passengers, you get an amount that is quite comparable to a trip in a minibus. At the beginning of communication, taxi drivers ask for a high price, but, as elsewhere in Asia, by bargaining, you can significantly bring down the final cost. If tourists want to come directly to the hotel door, then they need to lay an amount in the region of 5-6 thousand baht.

Taxi drivers do not take more than four passengers in a regular car, so if the number of people exceeds this figure, then you should think about hiring a minivan. On average, a trip from Bangkok to Trat takes about 3.5 hours, and to a hotel on the island - 4-5 hours.

To save time, it is better to order a taxi not to the island, but only to the ferry. This is due to constant car queues. Pedestrians, unlike drivers, do not need to wait several hours for the next ferry, but can immediately go to Koh Chang on the first ship.

Taxis to Koh Chang can be ordered at the hotel or caught on the street. However, not every taxi driver will agree to do this way. It is best to order a taxi online on the website. You will be picked up at the appointed time and place and taken to your hotel on Koh Chang.

By own car

There is a huge number of car rental offers in Thailand. The price per day in Bangkok starts from 1000 baht, which makes the service available to almost everyone. It is best to rent a car at. They have collected offers from the most reliable and large distributors, which will allow you to compare prices and choose the right car. Also on this site the prices are often lower than when renting directly.

The ferry line is about 350 kilometers away. Highway 344 leads from Bangkok to Trat with excellent coverage and an abundance of gas stations and eateries.

There is a large parking lot right at the entrance to the ferry, here tourists who do not want to go with it to the island can leave their car. And you will have to pay extra for crossing the car on the ferry.

Ferries from Trat to Koh Chang

In any case, tourists will have to use the ferry services. There are only two piers in Trat and they are located in close proximity to one another. The differences between them are that speed boats leave from Koh Chang Ferry Pier, the journey on which will take about 30 minutes, while slower boats leave from Center Point Ferry Pier.

The prices for both ferries are the same and are 80 baht one way and 120 baht when buying a round-trip ticket. The boat traffic starts at 6 am and the last flight leaves at 7 pm.

There are many ways to get to the beautiful beaches of Koh Chang, choose the one that suits you best. In any case, the guests of the island will have an unforgettable vacation and impressions that will be deposited in his mind for a lifetime.

There is no sea connection between Koh Chang and other resorts in Thailand (such as Pattaya, Samui, Phuket, etc.), so we answer your questions about how to get to the island by bus or minibus, as well as air travel. Also read in our blog why it is impractical to get to the island by air. We emphasize again - the Pattaya Koh Chang ferry does not exist.

How to get from Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport to Koh Chang?

1. Drive through Pattaya

A simple option with its pros and cons. Arriving in Suvarnabhumi, you can buy a bus ticket to Pattaya, for about 150 baht, to get there, and from Pattaya you can take an air-conditioned minibus for 400-500 baht (per person), or on a regular bus for 180 baht.

The first one can be ordered from various agencies, for example, 35 Group Pattaya and it will take you to Koh Chang Ferry Pier on the island. Note - the cost of the ferry is included here. Regarding the regular bus from Pattaya, it's cheap yes, but only runs 2 times a day: at 6 am and 11:30 pm. Ride it for 5 hours. Of course, this is the cheapest way, because a transfer from Suvarnabhumi Airport to Koh Chang will cost you only 330 baht per person, but this method is not suitable for everyone. Why? See cons below

Minuses:

A tired tourist, after 9 hours of flight, with red eyes, in the heat, has to shake for 2 hours on the bus to Pattaya, then wander around the city with suitcases in search of the coveted route, then shake for another 5 hours in transport, and then look for a taxi to the hotel ... Agree - it's rather difficult for beginners, to say nothing of tourists with children.

2. Taxi from Bangkok to Koh Chang

More comfortable, but undoubtedly more expensive option. Arriving in Bangkok, you go through control, then go to the first floor, and from there you head to the exit from the airport. Here you will see a lot of taxi cars, as well as the “Taxi Service” counter. One of the rules - do not listen to random drivers and all kinds of "barkers" who will immediately surround you. You can go to the taxi desk and find out the price.

Taxi price - 5000 - 6500 baht. As for the crossing, check, also check if the price includes travel on the island itself.

3. Transfer order Bangkok - Koh Chang

Perhaps the best option for tourists who first decided on an independent trip and for small groups. Judge for yourself: if you are four of us, you can order a comfortable car with air conditioning while still at home in front of a monitor screen. At the same time, the cost will be approximately the same as ordering a taxi on the spot, but you will know for sure - upon arrival you will be met by a smiling Thai man with a sign on which your name will be written and will lead you to the car, and from there he will take you straight to your hotel on Ko Chang.

A standard car will have 4 seats, but if you are not enough, you can order a minibus for 7 people, or a large bus for 13, 17 and even 19 people.

Price - from 6000 baht

Pros:

  • The fastest way. So, having arrived in Suvarnabhumi at 10 am, at 4 pm you can already be at your hotel on Koh Chang.
  • Comfortable cars with air conditioning
  • Minibuses for large companies.

This does not happen with pedestrian lines, so you can board the ship immediately upon arrival at the pier. Taxi drivers ask for their services from 4000 baht. It is important to remember that bargaining with them is not only appropriate, but also necessary. At the end of the auction, you can leave for 2500 baht. Koh Chang Marina Map

The rest of the berths only offer hotels for overnight stays and tickets for ships from other piers.

The pier is the most convenient and familiar among tourists on the way to Koh Chang. Most of the transport from Bangkok arrives here. Ferries from this pier arrive at Ao Sapparot Pier on Koh Chang.

The journey takes 30 minutes and costs 100 baht. Ships leave every half hour from 6:30 am to 7 pm.

Center Point Pier

It is located 15 km south of the previous one and is closest to the rest of the city of Trat. Most of the songteos from Trat terminals bring tourists to this pier. The court stops at the pier of the same name on Koh Chang. The journey from this pier takes longer - about 55 minutes.

▣ Ferry scheduling.

Ferries leave for the island every hour from 6.00 to 19.00. Similarly, you can get back. Ticket price - 80 baht one way, 120 baht - both, children - free. The typical cost of a car crossing is 100-200 baht.

You should not count on the last flight at 19.00 to Koh Chang, and 19.30 from the island, as they are often canceled.

Laem Ngop Fishing Jetty Pier

Laem Ngop is located near Center Point Pier. Public transport does not deliver travelers to it. It makes no sense to go here on your own.

The only thing that you can spend the night if you canceled the final ferry flight or you are late, and in the morning set off on your way to another pier. Also near the marina is a travel agency that sells ferry tickets from Center Point.
