Was in our plans for a very long time. Many things were scary, including how to deal with public transport. Finally, the decision was made and we set off on our big Georgian trip. My husband definitely wanted to visit Bakuriani, because the Olympic team trained here in Soviet times. And now there is a ski resort here. In winter, of course. Bakuriani also claimed the venue for the 2014 Olympic Games. They chose, however,. I was interested in the facts that the royal family loved this place, and Eifel took part in the design of the mountain railway. We went to Bakuriani from Tbilisi, a long way, but quite accessible both by public transport and by car.

By minibus

You can get from Bakuriani by minibus, which departs from the bus station located near the Didube metro station. Leaving the metro, you need to go through the market and turn right. There, in the square, you will see a huge number of minibuses.

The minibus to Bakuriani leaves from platform 25, but you'd better ask someone. Just to be understood, choose an older person who studied Russian at school. You will definitely be prompted. There are no timetables for minibuses, they are sent as soon as they are full from 7:00 to 17:00. The drive to Bakuriani will take about two and a half hours.

In order to change to a train to Bakuriani, you need a train leaving at 6:35. Trains in Georgia are quite comfortable and clean, soft seats, air conditioning - as luck would have it. The train runs until four o'clock.

Departing from the central railway station (Station Square metro station), you will need to get off at Borjomi at the Black River station. From here begins the narrow-gauge railway, along which the famous old cuckoo train runs.

The train schedule is adjusted to the schedule of the Tbilisi electric train, ten minutes is enough for a change. In any case, do not worry, you will have time to change seats - they will wait for you.
The road to Bakuriani is very long - two and a half hours, while the resort is less than 30 km away. The road often has a steep slope, the speed does not exceed 15 km / h. On the one hand, she cannot boast of any gorgeous views, because these views are covered by trees. On the other hand, this trip gives a kind of extraordinary sense of travel in time. You go and go in such a trailer.

However, no matter how atmospheric such a trip may be, I advise you to return back by minibus. In Borjomi or in, it depends on your future plans.

Buying a ticket

You can buy a train ticket at the ticket office of the station, theoretically it can also be online, but it seemed to me that for this you need to speak Georgian.

A ticket for the Borjomi-Bakuriani train costs 1 (0.4 euros) or 2 (0.8 euros) lari, depending on the carriage. There are only two cars: old and new, and prices are two.

The car ride is undoubtedly the most comfortable, especially for the passenger. A car can be rented in Tbilisi, using the search through the Internet, through this type, or directly on the rental website. The distance of 184 km can be covered in less than three hours. If you don't stop to take pictures or just admire.

The road to Khashuri is just excellent, a two-lane highway with a 120 km limit, and the further road to Borjomi is not bad, albeit a single-lane one. The road from to Bakuriani is also quite decent and pleases with views.
