Class hour memorable places of the grave. Sights of Mogilev with photos and descriptions. Belarusian ethnographic village

Mogilev is a regional city of Belarus, which arose more than seven centuries ago on the banks of the large Dnieper River. Today it is a beautiful well-kept city with a fairly large number of preserved historical buildings.

This article will focus on the main attractions of Mogilev.

What to see in Mogilev?

The main place for walking around the city is Pervomayskaya and Lenina streets, which run parallel through the entire city center. Pervomayskaya Street leads from the railway station to the Dnieper embankment. If you arrived in Mogilev by train, then do not rush to go straight to the city, but see the overhauled station of the tsarist era (1902)

as well as a sculpture of the stationmaster

The section of Pervomaiskaya from the railway station to the Church of the Three Saints (1909-11) is better to be overcome by a trolleybus: firstly, you will not see any sights here, and secondly, at the same time, the local electric transport is run in

Just behind the church on the left you will see Lenin Square - one of the main bridgeheads of socialism in the city. Here, of course, there is a monument to Ilyich and one of the main attractions of Mogilev - the House of Soviets (a reduced copy of the Minsk one). The history of its origin looks something like this: at the end of the 30s, the issue of transferring the capital of the BSSR from Minsk, which was located dangerously close to the western border, to Mogilev was being decided.

Under this case, in 1937, an exact copy of the Minsk House of Soviets began to be erected in the city, which they finished in 1939. In the same year, as you know, the western border of the USSR moved as much as 300 kilometers towards the old woman-Europe, and the need to move the capital disappeared by itself.

Attractions of Pervomayskaya Street

The second part of Pervomayskaya is notable mainly for its cafes and shops - there are always a lot of people here. The buildings in this part are mostly Soviet, although there are also beautiful old buildings such as:

Peasant Land Bank (1914), which got on the largest Belarusian banknote of 200 thousand rubles.

Church of St. Stanislav (1738-52), located in the courtyard between Lenin and Pervomaiskaya.

Large "neo-Russian" theater building, made in red brick (1886-88)

At the theater, you should pay attention to the statue "Lady with a Dog"

Sights of Leninskaya Street

Lenin Street, running parallel to Pervomayskaya, is one of the most beautiful pedestrian streets in the country.

Probably the most famous sights of Mogilev are located here. A significant part of the local buildings date back to imperial times.

Particular attention should be paid to the Stargazer monument by the famous sculptor Vladimir Zhbanov. The composition is located near the Rodina cinema: in the center of it there is a huge telescope with the same astrologer sitting on a chair.

There are 12 huge chairs around, each of which has its own zodiac sign. You can sit on such an impromptu throne and take a picture for memory

Another original sight of Leninskaya is the "Moscow courtyard", located between houses 59 and 61

Here, with the support of the Moscow administration, a playground in the form of Kremlin towers was equipped

And on the wall of one of the houses at the entrance to the courtyard, until recently, one could see graffiti on a Moscow theme (now the wall is simply whitewashed)

Pervomaiskaya and Lenina merge, forming Sovetskaya Square, located on the high root bank of the Dnieper. In the center of the square there is a memorial to the warriors of the Great Patriotic War and an eternal flame

From Sovetskaya, a good view of the river valley opens, as well as of the sleeping areas, which can be reached by the main Dnieper bridge in the city.

Since 2008, the architectural dominant of the square is the building of the City Hall, restored according to old drawings on a historical site.

Today it houses a museum of the history of the city.

If you go to the square opposite the town hall across the square, you can see the nicely equipped embankment of the Dubrovenka river. Ten years ago, there was nothing like this in this place (everything was overgrown with reeds and bushes), but now you can walk along neat paths, fancy bridges, relax in a gazebo or just on a bench. If you start a walk along Dubrovenka from Sovetskaya Square, then at the end you will find yourself at a small reservoir located not far from the station.

Attractions of the Mogilev environs

However, I would not recommend leaving Mogliev at the end of this walk. What kind of a visit to the city would be without visiting the famous Buinichi field? You can get there either by a suburban train (Buinichi station), or by minibus from Sovetskaya Square.

The central object here is the "Buinichskoe Pole" memorial, created on the site of a major battle in 1941, during the defense of Mogilev. By the way, major battles took place here much earlier.

Zoo Mogilev

Opposite across the road are located: the city zoo, where, among other things, you can use the service "Belarusian safari" (ride on a "toy" train on the territory of the garden) and see live bison.

The cultural and entertainment complex "Belarusian Village of the 19th Century" will not particularly recommend a visit - I have not been inside. The property is usually popular with guests from Russia.

So, in short, we made a short sightseeing tour of the sights of Mogilev. One summer day should be enough for such a "minimum" for a free traveler.

Mogilev is a regional center and therefore there are plenty of interesting places where you can relax both in the company of friends and with your family. In this article, we will try to tell you about the most popular entertainments that are in demand among both locals and guests of the city.

Active rest in Mogilev

Don't like to sit still? Mogilev is a fairly large city and therefore you can easily find active entertainment for yourself!

Fans of extreme thrills can visit and try their hand at parachuting.

Planning a vacation with your loved one or with your family? We advise you to pay attention to where you can not only look at graceful horses, but also ride them. As a souvenir, you can also take pictures with them and feed them.

Shopping and shops in Mogilev

If you like shopping, then you can easily discover the rich world of Mogilev shopping. The city has many interesting shops, shopping centers and markets where you can buy almost anything - goods for every taste and color!

If you are planning your trip to Mogilev for the first time, then you may be interested in buying branded Belarusian things at competitive prices. Here is a list of the most famous brand stores in Mogilev:

  • - a network of women's underwear stores.
  • - a network of stores of Belarusian knitwear and clothing.
  • "Serge" (Serge) - a chain of lingerie stores for women and men.

In Mogilev there are many interesting places and sights, photos and descriptions of which will be useful for tourists to form their own route of their visit. The city has many theaters, museums, monuments and other interesting places to stay.

Mogilev is located in Belarus, Mogilev region, Mogilev region. It has a latitude of 53 about 9, and a longitude of 30 about 33,. The city itself is located in the eastern part of the country. According to the 2014 census, the total number of residents is 371,328. The city is built on both sides of the Dnieper River.

There is a web of railways and highways that connect Mogilev with other important centers.

There is practically no data on the origin of the city and its initial development, and there is practically no life in the annals. It is believed that the city originated in 1267, after the construction of a castle next to the then existing fishing village. So over time, the castle was overgrown with new buildings, which was the result of the emergence of the city.

Often Mogilev was attacked, wars passed through it, but this did not prevent it from developing as a trade and handicraft center. The monuments that have survived to this day convey the atmosphere of the 13th century, everyday life and life at that time.

Favorable time for a trip to Mogilev

The best time to travel will be summer, when it is warm and sunny, beautiful greenery grows, and an abundance of fruits can be found in the markets. In the warmer months, people most often go on vacation, and accordingly, nothing will disturb the vacationer during the trip.

Map of attractions and streets of Mogilev

For a trip to Mogilev, the most suitable moment will be June, July and August, when the average air temperature ranges from 22 to 24 o C. At this time, you can get a light tan while walking around the city and seeing its sights. But these months are quite rainy, so you should always take an umbrella with you.

From December to April, it is worth avoiding the trip, since it is during these months that frost falls in combination with a strong gusty wind. However, if you want to see the winter beauty of Mogilev, you can get out for 2 days.

City hall

In 1578 the city was given the right to build a town hall. It was originally made of wood, so it burned to the ground more than once, and it was constantly restored. In 1679, funds were allocated for the construction of a new, brick town hall, the construction lasted for several years. So it withstood the Great Patriotic War, but was later blown up.

The modern city hall is a building recreated from the past, but it was built using new technologies, with more durable and high-quality materials.

In Mogilev, in the city hall, there is a museum that tells about the history of the city, its attractions, and there are also stands with their photos and descriptions. Guided tours for children and adults are held in the building. Inside, the interior of the 18th century has been preserved, many things have been restored and stylized, you can even sit in the royal armchair.

The City Hall will tell you about the city, will help you to plunge into the atmosphere of the past centuries. In addition, the life of the city goes on, and it is written there.

Church of St. Stanislaus

Mogilev (sights, photos with a description of each of which are presented later in the article, you can see it independently or with a guide) is actually famous for interesting monuments, unique views and architectural solutions. For example, the Church of St. Stanislaus is a special structure: it contains frescoes of the 18th century, the inhabitants of the city are proud of this.

The building was built in the best traditions of the West in the Baroque style. Until 1692, the temple belonged to the Carmelites. A few 10 years later, a large-scale reconstruction began. Porticos and columns appeared in the hall of the temple, 7 new altars, in addition, the frescoes that have survived to this day have become the most important elements. They were made by talented local artists and painters.

However, not the whole history of the church was pleasant:

  1. For a time it was used as a grain warehouse.
  2. Then it was closed.
  3. Then it was damaged, it housed a historical archive.
  4. In the end, after the collapse of the Soviet Union, the church was restored and church services resumed.

The amount of light in the church is surprising, it is soft and soothing, and the high ceilings and columns, painted with frescoes, are striking in their beauty.

Mogilev Drama Theater

The theater was founded at the end of the 19th century. The first performance went off with a furore: there were so many people interested that all tickets were sold out on the first evening. The theater was never quiet, touring troupes came, more than 4,000 performances were staged.

However, all the troupes that formed here moved to other places. Therefore, the new permanent theater in Mogilev was opened on October 29, 1954 with the play "Yaroslav the Wise".

Little by little, the theater's affairs improved, new talented persons appeared. People knew how to spend the evening, and the city developed spiritually. There was also a time of decline, when all the engineering systems needed to be repaired, plaster fell, and it was impossible to rehearse in the hall. By 2000, the theater began to rise, found its audience.

More and more classics began to appear on the stage:

  1. "Turandot".
  2. "Threepenny Opera".
  3. "Shakespeare company.by".
  4. "A very simple story."
  5. "Orchestra".

Today the theater is on the rise and collaborates with many famous directors, carries out classical productions as well as experimental ones.

Museum of P.V. Maslenikova

The museum is housed in a 20th century building in the Art Nouveau and Late Classicism style. The building is considered one of the most beautiful in the city. Initially, it housed two banks, but due to revolutionary events in 1919 it was transferred to the Department of Education and Science.

All the data and archives of the CPB Central Committee were brought here, as well as valuable things that were later plundered and lost. The Great Patriotic War hit hard on the welfare of the museum.

But in the 90s, the museum began to accumulate its wealth, today there are many:

  • valuable books;
  • pictures;
  • works of icon painting.

The museum building can be seen on the 200 Belarusian ruble banknote. It got its name thanks to the Belarusian painter, whose art gallery is open in the museum, the bust of Maslenikov itself stands in front of the entrance to the room.

Byalynitsky-Biruli Museum

The museum was opened as a memorial and memory of the artist Byalynitsky-Biruli. The first floor tells about the life and study of the painter. His first paintings and those of his friends are also presented there.
The second floor is completely occupied by the paintings of the artist himself. Basically, he painted the nature of his native land. Having visited the museum, you can see some of the most interesting and beautiful places in Belarus.

St. Nicholas Convent

The monastery is white on the outside, with narrow high windows.

There are strict rules to follow when visiting the monastery. A woman should have her head covered, and a man without a headdress.

The history of the monastery is difficult and sometimes unpleasant. They say that many people were buried there during the war.

The monastery is fenced with a high white stone wall, its walls are painted with the faces of saints. The interior decoration is surprising. The gilded wooden iconostasis is skillfully made by woodcarvers and gilders. Once inside, you calm down, looking up at the murals on the walls and domes, there is a pacification. The courtyard of the monastery is well-groomed, neat, it is pleasant to be and walk there.

Historic city center

Mogilev (sights, photos with a description of which will be presented in the article) is not just a city that is more than 7 centuries old, it is a defensive fortress that has undergone repeated raids, arson and destruction to the last brick.

It is not known exactly how the city was born. Some argue that at first a castle was erected, and a city began to be built around it, others say that the construction of the city began around churches.

So, the historical center of Mogilev can be considered the city hall, which in turn served people:

  • by the court;
  • Registry office;
  • museum;
  • even a prison.

Mogilev (the sights, the photos of which are given in the article, are really worth paying attention to this city) can be visited on weekends, but on weekdays there are fewer people and less noise in the streets.

Square of Stars

One of the main squares of the city. The pride of the inhabitants, however, in the area of stars is not quite ordinary stars, but astronomical ones. The astrologer sits with a pipe in the center, and around him 12 chairs with the signs of the zodiac, when the sunlight falls, you can tell the time.

Of course, this is not the Hollywood Walk of Fame, but its stars are also represented here:

  • athletes;
  • scientists;
  • artists;
  • actors.

An architect named Zhbanov was engaged in this architectural project. He made many sculptures for the city. The area cost the city 200 million rubles, which is not a small amount of money for 2000-2003.

Train Station

Mogilev station is quite friendly, very clean and tidy. The building is in neoclassical style. The central dome of the station is completely glazed, so the room is very bright. Two glazed corridors extend from the dome to the right and left, complementing the lighting. The building is made in beige and white colors at the moment. Of course, during the war years, he had to undergo certain destructions and changes.

The residents had to ask for the construction of the railway for a long time. Mogilev is a trading city, goods were sent by river, but it was simply impossible to get to all places. Therefore, it was only in the 20th century that it was decided to build railway tracks. But trips were not available to everyone, it was cheaper to travel by horse.

The bridge over the Dnieper river

Until the middle of the 19th century, there was no concept of a bridge in Mogilev, they were crossed either by rafts or by ferries. However, the city grew, new needs arose, and the issue of the bridge became quite topical.

In 1862, the first wooden bridge was erected, which at that time was a strong engineering structure. Over time, additional farms were installed, it was strengthened, but it did not manage to survive the war years. Years passed and only to this day a solid, reliable bridge has been installed, connecting both banks of the Dnieper.

Buinichskoe field

The field is known for the fact that during the Great Patriotic War, the line of defense of the Soviet troops from the Germans passed here. Our troops managed to hold the defense for a long time and inflict significant wounds on the enemy.

Today, in the center of the site, there is a chapel in honor of the soldiers who died during the battle. Also presented are units of military equipment that were used in wartime and brought victory. Nearby there is the Lake of Tears, which symbolizes the tears of mothers whose children did not return from the front.

Zoological garden

A visit to the zoo will be especially interesting for children. In the zoo there are predators, mammals, ungulates, birds, domestic animals, and bison are proud of them. The territory of the zoo is large enough to take a walk.

The zoo itself was founded in 2005 by teachers and students of the agroforestry college. You can buy tickets for the train safari, which is a trip through the park, where they talk about the park and its inhabitants.

After visiting the zoo, you can go to the nearby Korchma complex, where you can visit the city of craftsmen:

  • pottery,
  • forge,
  • bakery.

Belarusian ethnographic village

It is a stylized 19th century village.

Can see:

  • customs,
  • rituals of that time among Belarusians.

You can also visit:

  • potter's house,
  • baker,
  • blacksmith.

You can walk around the territory, there are sure to find gifts and souvenirs. From the outside, all this looks like a real village, where moonshine is brewed, which can be tasted, porridge is prepared and eaten with a wooden spoon, you can try to forge or make pots.

The place is designed to have a pleasant time, to be 2 centuries ago and try your skills.

Where to stay: hotel addresses, prices

The hotel is an important factor in the trip; it creates almost the first impression of the city.

So, the list of places to stay includes:

Tourist notes: what to take with you on the road

Mogilev (a description of the sights with a photo will tell you about historical monuments) is worth your attention.

Before traveling, you need to think about what you should take with you on the road:

Mogilev is a wonderful city with many sights, photos and descriptions of which do not convey the emotions and sensations that can be obtained by seeing everything live. The architecture, executed in different styles and schools, is fascinating. Churches, temples and monasteries with lively painted frescoes amaze.

The small sculptures that give the city a look and make it more detailed are always etched into the memory. You can still list the advantages of the city for a long time, but the best option would be to make a trip there and see everything with your own eyes.

If you go down the stairs from the rampart to Chelyuskintsev street, you will get to an underground passage. He leads to the embankment. There is a whole art gallery in the passage. The walls are decorated with engravings depicting famous places in the city. Here you can see how Mogilev grew, was built and got better.

This memorial is dedicated to the defenders of the city of Mogilev, who in June 1941, at the cost of their lives, detained the Nazis for 20 days. We go to the territory of the complex through the main arch, the alley leads to the chapel. Its height is 27 meters. On the walls there are frescoes and plaques with the names of the buried soldiers. On a pedestal in the center there is a "Book of Memory". On the field there is a museum of military equipment from the times that took part in the battles near Mogilev. One of its exhibits is a German tank that was raised from the bottom of the river in the Mogilev region.

A huge boulder is installed here, it is called "Simonov's stone". Soviet writer Konstantin Simonov, then a war correspondent, was a participant and described the events of those battles. I came here more than once in peacetime. He bequeathed to scatter his ashes over this field, which was done.

If you are tired of wandering around the city, the surroundings of Mogilev will show you a lot of interesting things.
