Tourism Development Committee Chairman. Tourism Development Commission. Isn't it planned for the same purpose - the development of waterways - to revive the aquabus project? Several years ago he started loudly and then died quietly

Chairman of the Commission

Kotlyakov Vladimir Mikhailovich

Honorary President of the Society, scientific director Institute of Geography Russian academy sciences, academician of RAS

Since the founding of the Russian Geographical Society, travel with the aim of collecting, generalizing and distributing reliable geographic information special attention was paid. Scientific expeditions of the Russian Geographical Society (RGO) played a significant role in the development of the territory of Russia, the development of the World Ocean, the discovery and study of new lands.

The Strategy for the Development of the Russian Geographical Society, adopted in 2012, contains a comprehensive geographical knowledge of Russia and the world in all their diversity, which contributes to the realization of the creative potential of our Motherland and its citizens.

In this regard, the priority tasks of the Russian Geographical Society are:

1. Popularization of natural, historical and cultural heritage Russia as a subject of national pride;

2. Attracting wide attention of the international and Russian public to the unique historical, cultural and geographic sites our country for the intensive development of tourism in Russia.

The Russian Federation has a high tourist and recreational potential; unique natural and recreational resources, objects of national and world cultural and historical heritage are concentrated on its territory, important economic, sports and cultural events are held. The historical, cultural and natural heritage of Russia is the most important competitive advantage of the country's tourism industry. In 2014, about 500 historical cities were registered in Russia, more than 140 thousand monuments of history and culture, of which 25 thousand are objects of federal significance, 108 museum-reserves, 102 state nature reserve, 39 national parks and 68 federal reserves. However, given the existing positive trends, the tourist and recreational potential of our country is currently underutilized. According to the World Tourism Organization, Russia can receive up to 70 million Russian and foreign tourists annually. Tourist and recreational activities in Russian Federation is in the stage of reforming and development.

The effective use of natural and cultural heritage sites for tourist and recreational purposes, popularization of the geographical, ethnocultural and historical identity of our country is impossible without public participation. Therefore, the Russian Geographical Society sets itself the task of comprehensive research, accounting and dissemination of information about the tourist and recreational opportunities of our Motherland, the development of cognitive, including ecological, tourism, and the formation of a sense of patriotism. The Russian Geographical Society is able to unite people, promote their education, knowledge and creativity. In this regard, at the end of 2013, it was decided to create a Commission for Tourism Development in the structure of the Russian Geographical Society, headed by the Honorary President of the Russian Geographical Society, Director of the Institute of Geography of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Academician Vladimir Mikhailovich Kotlyakov.

The main objective of the Tourism Development Commission - development of educational tourism based on the effective use of natural and cultural and historical resources of the Russian Federation, examination of projects, programs and events of the Society on this topic. For the effective work of the Commission, thematic sub-commissions are created, whose activities are aimed at solving specific problems: educational and educational activities, research and project activities, exhibition and publishing activities, youth work, sustainable development tourism, etc. The Commission for the Development of Tourism includes leading specialists and experts in the field of environmental protection and natural and cultural heritage of Russia, representatives of the largest regional branches of the Society, state, scientific, scientific, educational and public organizations of the Russian Federation with tourist and recreational activities.

The tasks and forms of work of the Commission of the Russian Geographical Society for the development of tourism are reflected in the "Regulations on the Commission". The Commission works in accordance with the plan approved by the Governing Council of the Russian Geographical Society.

The festival of light, which will take place in St. Petersburg this Saturday, is the third such event in the city. The first festival took place last spring, the second in November. Is the event traditionally held in the off-season?

Yes, this year autumn festival will be held on the same dates as in 2016 - November 4-5. It will be dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the revolution, but not in a political, but in a tourist sense.

And the theme of the spring light show is modern Petersburg. That is why we have chosen the new stadium "St. Petersburg-Arena" as a venue for it, which offers a view of the Western speed diameter... These projects are a new page in the life of St. Petersburg. When you look at the stadium from Battery Alley, the feeling is as if you are not in a city-museum, but somewhere in Tokyo, filled, as you know, with ultra-modern architectural structures.

This is the main idea of \u200b\u200bthe spring action - to reflect the new face of St. Petersburg. For this, modern technologies 3D-mapping are used (3D-projection onto a physical object, taking into account its geometry and location in space. - Ed.). Moreover, we use special lamps, released only in January 2017, which provide a special lighting effect. This also shows the ultra-modernity of the upcoming show.

The program also includes fireworks from different companies that will compete with each other in the brilliance of the action. During the show, cameras will grab individual faces from the crowd and project them onto a 6,000 m2 screen - one of the largest light canvases in Europe.

Whose experience did you focus on when preparing light shows?

On the modern European experience. In particular, the experience of French Lyon, where the festival of light is considered one of the most visited events in France. By the way, the director of our autumn show was also from France.

To some extent, we have used experience United Arab Emirates, Japan, where light shows are also common.

Technologies are constantly evolving, something new appears all the time. It's one thing to shine a light on a historic building with stucco molding and a complex façade pattern. And quite another - to a modern architectural object like a new stadium, which can serve as an almost blank slate.

In addition, this building has curved shapes, which makes the task even more interesting. Therefore, for the spring show, we use almost four times more equipment than in the fall.

How do you assess the success of these festivals?

They aroused great interest: over 500 thousand people visited the autumn festival in 2 days, there were a huge number of posts in social networks - with photos and videos, reviews, not only from Russian, but also from foreign users. Press publications, TV plots. In general, having invested 50 million rubles in the show, we have recouped this action several times through free advertising.

Our task is not just to make the Festival of Light self-sustaining, but to make it profitable for the city. We will spend 28 million rubles from the city budget for the spring show, and for the autumn event there are already applications from large companies that are ready to sponsor. In this sense, the experience of the Moscow annual festival "Circle of Light" is indicative, which has been held for several years and is 12 times more expensive than our autumn one. So, he collects a crazy budget from sponsors.

Many foreign guests will come to our festival this year - for example, several sheikhs from the United Arab Emirates. They not only want to see the city and the show, but also intend to promote Petersburg and the festival in their countries.

This is one of the tourist tasks of St. Petersburg - to attract sophisticated, wealthy guests who can afford to come to the city specifically for some event of interest to them. That is, these are tourists who leave the maximum amount of money in the city.

By the way, speaking of the promotion of St. Petersburg on the tourism market: what is happening now with the Silver Necklace of Russia project - the "younger brother" of the Soviet "Golden Ring"?

- "Silver Necklace" covers 11 cities of the North-West of Russia. This is a very good project specifically for St. Petersburg, as it allows us to make our city a gateway to Russia. For this we have not only rich story, architecture, interesting events, but also transport infrastructure: passenger seaport, airport.

According to the World Tourism Organization, the optimal number of nights a tourist spends in a particular city in terms of efficiency is three. That is, in the first 3 days, a person spends the greatest amount of money in a new city. Then he goes to another city and spends money there with the same zeal, and a new tourist takes his place in St. Petersburg, who, in turn, effectively fills our budget for the next 3 days. This is what we strive for, and the Silver Necklace helps us a lot in achieving this goal.

The organizing committee of this project, which is located in Vologda, is working very effectively. Three- and seven-day tours of the Silver Necklace are now offered. Of course, so far this project is not as widely known as " gold ring"but gradually a new brand is being promoted.

Routes have already been formed, there are hotels for tourist accommodation - at a time "Silver Necklace" can receive about 30 thousand tourists. This is not much, but the project is still at the very beginning of its journey, it will develop. There is a need for the construction of new hotels, and they will appear in response to the growing demand.

In this sense, a new initiative for St. Petersburg to create floating hotels is interesting.

Yes, we expect the first floating hotels to open in 2018. It's a shame that in St. Petersburg, which is called the Venice of the North and the sea capital of Russia, there is no such format of hotels that is widespread in tourist cities the world.

These will not be self-propelled ships, but pontoon structures-hotels of the level of three or four stars, tied to specific addresses on the Neva in different parts cities. This does not require such significant investments as capital construction. At the same time, guests of such a hotel get a wonderful view of the water and the whole range of services available in a regular hotel.

In addition, this format of accommodation is convenient because, if necessary, such a hotel can be relocated to the place where there is a need for it. For example, earlier, when the St. Petersburg International Economic Forum was held at Lenexpo, and not at ExpoForum, ships were chartered to accommodate guests.

New floating hotels can also serve as such for various events. Plus, this initiative also solves the problem of developing Russia's inland waterways.

Isn't it planned for the same purpose - the development of waterways - to revive the aquabus project? Several years ago, he started loudly, and then died quietly.

As a person who came from business, I believe that if a project is economically ineffective, then it is not worth developing it. Since this project did not survive, it means that there was no demand for it. After all, look: in St. Petersburg there are many companies offering walks along rivers and canals. They are developing without any city programs, as the demand for their services is very high. I do not think that the state should try to impose something by force.

Committee on transport goes towards business - in particular, it equips city berths, where for affordable price companies can moor their river vessels and organize the movement of water transport on a schedule.

I know that the idea to revive the Soviet system river tramsthat would go on certain routes is popular. But this should not be done by the state, but by business. And he got this opportunity now.

When the aquabus project began, it was assumed that it would not be a tourist, but would solve some social problems - the transportation of citizens by water transport. But in the end, it turned out that Petersburgers actually could not use it for these purposes, since numerous guests of the city began to ride water trams. This means that the business model was not chosen very well.

In other countries there are similar projects, but they do not set social goals for themselves. For example, in Venice, there are large water buses, which are not cheap to travel, but they are always full.

Perhaps it is worth thinking about differentiated fees for using water transport - so that Petersburgers pay less than tourists. After all, tourism should develop for the benefit of city residents.

This is a big problem, typical for all tourist cities in the world, to simultaneously make the city attractive for tourists and provide comfortable accommodation for the citizens. Still, the state should not compete with entrepreneurs in the field of water transportation.
