S7 Airlines (legal name - Siberia Airlines OJSC) - the third largest russian airline... Based in the Novosibirsk airport "Tolmachevo", forming regional hubs in Irkutsk and Domodedovo. Part of the C7 Group of Companies ("S7 Group"); a member of the oneworld global aviation alliance.

History

2017: Roskosmos and S7 will build an orbital cosmodrome

In 2017, the group's airlines carried over 14.2 million passengers.

2006-2010

  • S7 Airlines operated 10 Boeing 737-500s in 2005-2008
  • The turning point for Siberia was 2006: on its basis and its structural divisions, the S7 Group was created. In connection with this event in March, the airline surprised not only passengers, but also colleagues and competitors with the rebranding and bold colors of the aircraft. Discreet white fuselages and blue-blue tails aircraft the companies became bright green with a red and white logo of a practically new carrier - S7 Airlines.
  • On November 15, 2010, S7 Airlines became a full-fledged member of the Oneworld international alliance of air carriers.

1957-2005

  • In 1957, from a military airfield in Novosibirsk region (the future airport "Tolmachevo") the first civil flight was made on the route Novosibirsk - Moscow on the Tu-104 plane. This event is considered the birth of the Tolmachev United Squadron.
  • 35 years later - in 1992 - the state airline "Siberia" was formed on the basis of the Tolmachevsky united air squadron. In 1994 the company was privatized. At the same time, Siberia received international code IATA.
  • In 2001 Siberia Airlines became a full member of the International Air Transport Association IATA. At the same time, the company bought Vnukovo Airlines and became the second largest airline in Russia and the first in terms of traffic on internal lines... A year later, Siberia Airlines began to operate 60% of its flights from Domodedovo airport, moving its central office from Novosibirsk to Moscow. In the same year, Siberia absorbed the Armenian Armavia, and in the summer of 2004 acquired a controlling stake in the Chelyabinsk aviation enterprise.
  • In 2005, Siberia was the first among Russian airlines to introduce the sale of air tickets for its flights via the Internet.

Attempts at privatization

The state block of shares in Siberia (25.5%) was repeatedly put up for sale in 2006 and 2007. The negotiations for the sale have been under way since 2001, but no buyers have been found. At the end of 2009, representatives of the country's main air carrier, Aeroflot, mentioned the possibility of acquiring the state-owned block of shares in Siberia, but this did not translate into concrete actions. In 2011, the state again, three times put up its package for auctions, but all of them did not take place due to the absence of bidders for the purchase. Experts explained the failure to privatize the package by the fact that portfolio investors are not interested in it due to the high starting price (1.8 - 2.9 billion rubles), and for strategic investors - because of the size of the package, which does not give the right to real influence on the management of the airline ...

Fleet

The company's air fleet consists of 43 long-haul and medium-haul aircraft (as of February 8, 2012).

Fleet history

In different years of its history, S7 Airlines has operated various types of aircraft. Until the end of 2008, the airline's fleet included such airliners as Il-86, Tu-154 and Tu-204. In 2004, S7 Airlines began implementing a plan to renew its air fleet. On November 17, 2008, the operation of Soviet aircraft in the company was completely stopped.

On May 29, 2007, the airline signed a contract with by Boeing for the purchase of 15 Boeing-787 airliners and an option for another 10 such aircraft, thus becoming the first customer of these aircraft among Russian airlines. The delivery time for the first aircraft is 2014; the catalog value of 15 airliners is $ 2.4 billion. However, at the end of January 2009, due to the economic crisis and the airline's difficult financial situation, this contract was terminated.

Since April 2008, S7 Airlines began operating flights on the new Airbus A320 aircraft. Under an operating lease agreement concluded with ILFC, in 2008 S7 Airlines received 4 aircraft of this type. All of them are equipped with CFM56 engines manufactured by CFM International. In 2009, deliveries of 25 more aircraft began.

Some regular domestic flights are operated boeing aircraft 737-800 and Boeing 737-400 subsidiaries charter airline "Globe".

Activities

The company has an extensive network of routes with transfer hubs in Moscow (Domodedovo), Novosibirsk (Tolmachevo, base airport) and Irkutsk.

In 2006, Siberia Airlines took the third place in terms of the number of charter flights passengers (950 thousand passengers), losing to Atlant-Soyuz (1.14 million passengers) and VIM-Avia - (980 thousand passengers). Charter services account for 19% of the passenger traffic of Siberia Airlines. In 2008 the majority of charter flights were transferred to the subsidiary company Globus.

In 2007, S7 Airlines aircraft performed more than 47.5 thousand flights, which carried 5 698.1 thousand passengers. The growth in the number of passengers carried on domestic airlines was 22%, and on international ones - 8%. The passenger turnover in 2007 exceeded 13.9 billion passenger kilometers. In 2007, more than 33.3 thousand tons of cargo and mail were transported. Cargo turnover in 2007 amounted to more than 1.3 billion ton-kilometers.

The number of passengers carried in 2008 amounted to 5,892,548 people, 51,422 flights were performed.

Mergers and acquisitions

In 2002 Siberia Airlines gained control over OJSC Vnukovo Airlines, as a result of which it expanded its network of routes from Moscow.

Also in 2002, Siberia Airlines bought a controlling stake in Armavia. In 2005, Armavia was sold.

In 2008, an offer was sent to the Austrian Property Management Agency (OeIAG) to buy 43% of Austrian Airlines. If the deal were concluded, the Russian airline would receive an additional 3 million passengers a year at Vienna airport. However, the deal for S7 fell through due to the fact that the company did not manage to submit the documents on time. As a result, Austrian Airlines were acquired by Lufthansa.

Route network

S7 Airlines together with subsidiary carriers forms an extensive route network, which includes 83 directions (41 - domestic) in 26 countries.

Awards

S7 Airlines has repeatedly become a laureate of various competitions, exhibitions and awards.

Today, May 12, 2009, a meeting of the Siberia Airlines Board of Directors took place, at which a decision was made to appoint a new Siberia Airlines General Director in connection with Vladislav Filev's transfer to the position of S7 Group CJSC General Director.

Vladislav Filev's transfer to work at C7 Group of Companies CJSC is associated with plans to form a full-fledged transparent holding structure of the group and the need to direct the main forces to business development and increasing the efficiency of the enterprise management system of the C7 Group of Companies.

By the decision of the Board of Directors Vladimir Obyedkov has been appointed General Director of Siberia Airlines from May 12, 2009.

"Vladimir Obyedkov has been working for Siberia Airlines for nine years. It is largely due to his professionalism, experience and knowledge in the field of passenger air transportation that the airline's operations are at a high international level, which has been repeatedly confirmed by IOSA auditors, Russian aviation authorities and independent foreign experts. I am sure that Vladimir Obyedkov is exactly the person who, especially today, when serious changes are taking place in the passenger air transportation market, will be able to successfully manage the airline, "said Vladislav Filev, CEO of the C7 group of companies.

Despite the aggravated economic situation and the general decrease in the volume of passenger air transportation in Russia and in the world, Siberia Airlines is now in good operating form. The air fleet renewal program has been successfully completed, the airline's route network has been optimized and is actively developing. New flights were opened on the routes Moscow - Surgut, Moscow - Syktyvkar, Moscow - Yakutsk, Novosibirsk - Alma-Ata (Kazakhstan), Moscow - Madrid (Spain), etc.

An effective cost management policy has significantly reduced the airline's costs. Overhead costs have been reduced by 25%, which saves more than RUB 300 million per year. Additional revenues from the sale of spare parts and the lease of the stopped Soviet-made aircraft will amount to 370 million rubles. The increase in sales efficiency will increase revenues by 2-3% per year and further reduce costs to 120 million rubles per year.

Today Siberia Airlines demonstrates the best profitability per employee on the market - 12.9 million rubles a year.

The share of raised funds in the airline's revenue does not exceed 25%.

The incoming cash flows of the airline are fully sufficient to service production and commercial activities and to pay interest on loans. The volume of foreign exchange earnings is sufficient to pay the lease payments.

As of April 30, 2009, during the restructuring of the bonded loan of Siberia Airlines OJSC, the total number of bondholders who agreed to the terms of restructuring amounted to 177 persons, and the total volume of restructured bonds reached RUB 1,859 million (85% of the total number of bonds) ...

“I am confident that the personnel changes that have been made will not only have a positive impact on the operating activities of Siberia Airlines, but will also allow me to focus on the development of the business of the C7 group, issues of improving the interaction of enterprises within the holding, as well as with financial institutions and potential investors, will improve the efficiency of corporate governance, "noted Vladislav Filev, CEO of the C7 group of companies.
