Ascension is an urban-type settlement in the Podporozhsky district of the Leningrad region, the administrative center of the Voznesensky urban settlement.

The population as of January 1, 2009 is 2678 people. (I wonder what it was like in 1981? It was unlikely that it was much different in one way or another).

Located in the north-east of the region, 91 km east of the administrative center of the region - the city of Podporozhye, at the source of the Svir River from Lake Onega. It is connected with the regional center by a road. The village is located on both banks of the river, connected by a ferry. There is a river port.

The name of the settlement comes from the Ascension Monastery, located on the right bank of the Svir (it operated from the 16th century to 1764).

The village - it is the village:

But, here, not far from the pier, we found one attraction - unusual monument Lenin.

How many monuments to Ilyich have already been demolished in Russia, and this one, judging by the messages on the Internet, still surprises the traveling people:

I don’t remember where we even managed to buy a newspaper,

Of course, not this village, but the regional center, however, the old one: regional newspapers were published once a week. The most interesting (for us, not for local residents), what we learned from her - that on September 1 she celebrates her 50th birthday.
