Double-deck Boeing 747 scheme. Lower deck: seats

- a long-range wide-body aircraft manufactured by Boeing from 1989 to 2009.

Today, the 747-400 is the most popular in the Boeing 747 family. Unlike previous modifications, the aircraft's fuselage has been redesigned: the upper deck is twice as long and the wing has improved aerodynamic qualities. The aircraft was equipped with new, more powerful and economical engines, which are two times quieter than those on the previous models. In the cockpit, instead of analog dial gauges, a digital control and navigation system was installed with data display on LCD displays (glass cockpit), due to which the number of crew was reduced to 2 people.

The Boeing 747-400 cabin was redesigned and received a new interior. The space for each passenger has been increased, the luggage racks have become more spacious, multimedia systems have been installed to entertain passengers, and in general the aircraft has become quieter and more comfortable.

The Boeing 747-400 made its maiden flight in April 1988. And its commercial operation began in February 1989.

The plane enjoyed great success and was produced until 2009, when a new generation of liners came to replace it. In total, 1358 airliners were produced in the 747-400 modification.

Boeing 747-400 cabin layout:

Boeing 747 400 is a double-decker jet passenger aircraft for 500 people. The liner flies up to 14,000 kilometers. Domestic AK "Russia" uses a Boeing 744, the same brand as the 747. Do not worry if the ticket contains one number and another model is flying. They are completely identical, only the numbering is different.

How the plane appeared

A variation of the liner was created based on the 300 model. The development of a new variation was needed because the previous one did not implement all the ideas of the Boeing company. Created a new type of aircraft, characterized by low fuel consumption, flying over longer distances, with a cabin superior comfort, reducing operating costs by 10 percent. The development of the new airliner began in 1985, three years later it was already tested in flight and received orders for one hundred units.

At first, the company thought to create a cargo liner, later settled on the fact that the Boeing 747 is optimal for transporting passengers. The ship officially took off for the first time on April 29, 1988. For over two hours, the liner was floating in the air. After the test, he was awarded the status of "fit for flight". A year later, the plane was sold to airlines North wind, two weeks later he was already flying with the first passengers.

Important! The best places are in the business class cabin.

The company Russia has purchased nine liners of this brand. Now you can order a ticket for a flight in a double-decker plane here.

Location of seats on the plane

Boeing 747 400 AK Russia: interior layout

The plane has two decks, dividing it into business and economy class. In the latter, there is less than 90 cm between the seats. It will not be possible to unfold the chair, only recline it by 60 degrees. All seats have a folding table.

On the 2nd floor there is a business class, where the seats fold out like a bed. This is possible due to the large distance between the seats. In business class, passengers are offered an individual menu, access to Wi-Fi and drinks are absolutely free.

The peculiarity of the liner is its division into two floors. Economy class is located at the bottom. There are 470 seats, there are 3 seats on each side of the walls, 4 in the center. There are 2 seats in the tail of the aircraft, 4 in the center, and 2 in front of the walls and 3 in the middle.

Rows 1 to 3 represent business class, featuring modern armchairs with monitors. Between lines more than 1.5 m. Row 5 starts on the second floor of the economy class. A screen hangs as a partition, allowing this line of passengers to stretch their legs. The seats are considered comfortable. Between the lines in the cabin - 86 centimeters.

The 9th row is the last in economy class. Further there is a toilet, then a staircase to the first floor. This creates a negative feeling among the passengers sitting here.

Important! There are three toilets on the first floor.

One is at the end of the plane, the other is between 20 and 22, which indicates unpleasant odors in these places, the third is around 43 and 44, for which tickets are sold out last. There is a dressing room located near 54 and 59, and a kitchen near 31 and 34. Immediately, next to 31, there is a descent from the second floor.

Some liner configurations include both business and economy class. The best seats are located in the first three rows. Then comes the improved economy class. The upper deck is located in the bow of the Boeing. There are two toilets. The Boeing 747's capacity on the second floor is 41, for business class - 12, economy - 29.

For the Rossiya airline, the Boeing 747 400 has a two-story cabin layout, which allows a larger number of people to be transported by aircraft.

One of the options is clearly non-standard, here below there are improved seats for economy class. They are located in the bow. In this case, there will be only business class on the second floor. Fly with children on the ground floor. Reviews show that here are the best places for them.

71 row is the worst, he is the last.

On the ground floor there is only an economy class with 470 seats. Here the distance between the seats is only 78 centimeters. The first rows 10 to 12 for the letters A, B, H and K are more comfortable as there are two seats each. But passengers with children are sitting nearby, which can cause inconvenience during the flight.

Row 19 is located at the emergency exit. The backs of the seats in this row do not recline.

From 20 to 22, it is uncomfortable to sit on the outer seats due to the closeness of toilets on both sides, which makes them restless, passengers sitting here will be constantly tense.

29 next to the emergency exit, so the backrest does not recline, and the toilet is also close.

Row 31 has extra legroom. But there is a staircase that limits the movement of passengers.

32, 33 and 34 next to the stairs, which causes some inconvenience due to people passing by.

Rows 43, 54, 70 and 71 are located near the escape hatches, so the backrest does not recline or has a limitation in this.

44 and 55 are not bad places. There is extra legroom, but close to the toilets, which is inconvenient.

67, 68, 69 and 70 are equipped with only two seats near the walls of the plane, for couples this is a unique place, but in the last row 71 the seat does not recline. There is a toilet nearby.

How to choose the best place

Boeing 747 400 diagram shows that the best places the first three rows on the second floor are considered. There are comfortable chairs with 15.4-inch monitors mounted in the back. Between the rows over one and a half meters.

The fifth row is the most comfortable, passengers have additional legroom, although this seat already belongs to the economy class. Here, on the second floor, displays mounted in the backrests of economy class seats are 8.9 inches diagonally.

On the first floor, the best can be called rows from tenth to twelfth. Here the chairs stand in two, not three or four as in other places. It is better to sit with children here. There are cradles where you can put the baby. For other passengers, these seats are not very convenient, because the child may cry throughout the flight.

Important! For boeing 747 400, Rossiya Airlines provides for the beginning of the rows from the tenth number on the first floor.

The best seats on the ground floor are the seats under the letters E and F from the seventeenth to the nineteenth row. There are double seats, which allows couples to fly here. 31 is characterized by a large legroom, but there is a toilet behind it, which makes it uncomfortable, because passengers can touch the elbows of those sitting and step on their feet. Another disadvantage, next to the stairs to the second floor, which also causes inconvenience.

Important! The best seats on the ground floor are rows 1-4.

For Rossiya Airlines, the b747 4 represents an aircraft of increased comfort, since it is a two-story aircraft that separates business class from the economic ladder.

Where are the bad places

It's important to know where the worst seats are so you don't accidentally buy a ticket for them. The plane of the Russia company has such seats, they spoil everything good impressions from the flight.

In the 29th row, the backrest on the chairs does not recline, since there is an emergency exit and a toilet nearby. The same problem in row 19. Seats A, D, E and L also cannot expand.

Sitting on a seat under the letter C in rows 32, 33 and 34 will feel uncomfortable, as passengers will constantly walk past them. After all, there is a staircase nearby, along which people regularly walk up and down.

Travelers who have bought tickets for the 43rd, 54th, 79th and 71st rows will not be satisfied with the flight. Emergency exits are located nearby, so the seats do not recline.

Important! Seats in lines 20 to 22, 27 to 29, 41 to 46 and 69 to 71 are located near the toilet. Here a queue of passengers forms, additional noise from their conversations and flushing of the tank.

On the second floor, you should not take a ticket for the last line. There is a toilet nearby, where passengers will constantly go, creating inconvenience for those sitting, there is also a staircase along which people go up and down, walking.

General rules for choosing a good location

Every passenger should consider several important points before buying a ticket for a Rossiya airline.

  • There is no need to buy a ticket for seats near the office premises. People constantly congregate here, creating a queue, which leads to additional noise and discomfort, as passengers will push and distract from rest during the flight.
  • It should be noted that there are seats where the backrest does not recline. For short flights, this will not create difficulties, but during a long flight, the back becomes very numb, the passenger will experience great inconvenience because of this.
  • With children, you should sit in front, there are cradles for babies. For those who do not want to hear a child crying during the entire flight, to see how children indulge, it is better to buy tickets for the back of the plane.
  • If the flight is carried out during the day, when it is light, there is an opportunity to sit near the porthole to observe the beautiful scenery.
  • There is no need to buy tickets for the seats with the letters D and G. Stewardesses and other passengers constantly walk by them, touching those sitting, interfering with their rest, stepping on their feet and making noise.

You should not buy tickets without deciding on a seat earlier, so that the whole flight will not suffer later.

The Boeing 747 (also referred to as the Jumbo Jet or "747") is a wide-body, double-deck long-haul passenger airliner developed by the corporation of the same name in 1969.

Review of the salon and the best seats

Depending on the model and layout, the passenger cabin of the Boeing 747 aircraft can accommodate from 366 to 581 passengers. Currently, the most common option is the layout of the liner cabin, which provides for the presence of two classes (business and economy), so it makes sense to consider it.

The business class cabin on the Boeing 747 is located on the upper deck (rows 72-80) and in the bow of the lower deck (rows 1-4). Thus, the business class of the liner has 44 seats. There is only one central passage, and the seats are arranged according to the "2-2" scheme. Seats of this class are comfortable and soft armchairs that can unfold (in some versions of the Boeing 747) 180 degrees, thus transforming into comfortable and cozy beds. Also, depending on the aircraft, the business class seats can have the form of a semi-closed “coupe” and be located in a “herringbone”, providing more space for legs. Business class passengers are offered a delicious menu with a wider selection of food and drinks, as well as a set of fresh newspapers. Some models (mainly produced in the last 10 years) have a built-in multimedia entertainment system that can brighten up the time in flight.

Business class seats are the best on board the Boeing 747. It should be noted, however, that they are far from equal and some of them are not very successful.

The seats located in row 72 are not the best in the Boeing 747 business class cabin. The main reason is that they are located near toilets and utility rooms. This means that the lighting will work here even in the dark, thereby interfering with a calm and proper rest. However, round-the-clock light is not the main problem of these places. The main inconvenience for the 72nd row seats is that there is guaranteed to be quite busy traffic, and not so much of the service personnel as of passengers on the way to the toilet.

This is especially true for places located directly at the aisle (indicated on the diagram by letters C and K). Also not very attractive for the business class are seats in the 80th incomplete row. These places were near the sideboard and the stairs leading to the lower (main) deck. That is why there will be quite a lively traffic here too. However, seat 72 and 80 for business class should be booked, especially for long haul flights, as a last resort.

Behind the business class seats on the lower deck is the economy class cabin. It is represented by the places that occupy the rows with numbers from 9 to 69 and has two central aisles. Seats of this class are located, as a rule, according to the scheme "3-4-3". Economy class chairs are soft, comfortable, and the distance between them is about 80 centimeters, which meets international standards. Folding tables for meals and a video / audio entertainment system for each seat is usually mounted in the back of the front seat. The only exceptions are places that do not have other places in front of them (for example, as shown in the diagram, these are rows 9, 21, 35 and 51). For them, all such devices are mounted in the armrests.

The best seats for a Boeing 747 economy class cabin are the A, B, J and K seats located in rows 9, 21, 35 and 51. Their convenience and comfort will be explained by a number of factors. The most important thing is that immediately in front of them, as indicated earlier, there are no other places, and, therefore, no one can recline the back of the seat and limit the space of passengers in these places. Also (which is typical for the seats of the ninth row) the distribution of food begins, as a rule, from the front seats of the passenger compartment. Thus, passengers in row 9 have a greater choice of food and drinks compared to passengers in the rear rows, especially given the huge size of the cabin and the number of passengers in Economy Class. The windows of the Boeing 747 are large and comfortable, so the seats near them can also be called quite preferable (unless, of course, this is row 67).

The seats marked with letters C and H and located in rows 17, 18, 21-27, 33-36, 45, 51-54 are not the best for an economy class cabin. Their inconvenience is explained very simply: they adjoin the aisles directly near the stairs leading to the upper deck, toilet rooms and cupboards, which provides a brisk traffic here. This, as well as the hustle and bustle of doors, can cause a lot of inconvenience and spoil the impression of flying a Boeing 747. The most inconvenient, especially for long-haul flights, are seats in rows 68 and 69, that is, in the very tail of the aircraft. The toilet block is located here, and, therefore, the main traffic of passengers in the rear section of the economy class cabin takes place. Places in rows 68 and 69 should be taken only as a last resort, when there are no more tickets for other places.

Creation and operation

In the 60s of the XX century, the Boeing Corporation was rightfully proud of the high popularity of their brainchild - passenger liner Boeing 707. Nevertheless, the active growth in demand for air travel prompted the Boeing corporation already in the late 60s to start developing a new passenger liner, which was supposed to have an increased capacity and larger dimensions - the qualities that Pan American, the main potential customer of the future, expressed in the wishes. liner.

In the late 1960s, it was believed that the future would belong to supersonic passenger aircraft. This is what influenced, to a certain extent, the construction and design of the Boeing 747. Initially, it was assumed that the Boeing 747 would be a cargo-passenger and, if necessary, each passenger plane could be converted into a cargo one.

The liner was planned as a wide-body double-deck, and the upper deck, like the main one, was supposed to extend its entire length. However, due to the fact that this would seriously worsen the aerodynamic properties of the aircraft, it was decided to make the upper deck in the form of a "hump", due to which the aircraft received the nickname "eggplant". Another interesting solution was the placement of the cockpit on the second deck, since the bow in this case could be converted into a ramp for cargo modification.

Due to the fact that very little time was allowed for the development of the Boeing 747 - less than 4 years - its development and production proceeded at a rapid pace. The Boeing plant was not designed to assemble such giant liners, so a new plant had to be built urgently. In parallel, the training of pilots for the new airliner was carried out, which took place on a special simulator designed to teach pilots to control and taxi from a fairly high cabin.

However, at the same time boeing worried about her better times... Being on the verge of bankruptcy, she pinned all her hopes on the new liner. History has shown that these hopes were not in vain, and the sales revenues of the Boeing 747 far exceeded the costs of its development and construction.

The first flight of the liner took place in February 1969, and already in 1970 the first Boeing 747 was delivered to Pan American, and its commercial operation began.

Nevertheless, the liner received quite a cool welcome from the airlines, mainly due to its high fuel consumption. It was assumed that such an aircraft would not justify itself even on long-distance routes, which is why more preference was given to three-engine liners from Lockheed and McDonnell Douglas. In 1973, the oil crisis struck and fuel prices skyrocketed. In this regard, some companies have decided to stop the commercial operation of the liner. For example, American Airlines converted all Boeing 747s into cargo ones, and then sold them.

However, despite all the prophecies of the inevitable collapse of the airliner, its production continued, and in 2005 a modification of the Boeing 747-400 was created, capable of breathing new life into this aircraft. However, it is worth noting that the demand for the airliner is gradually falling, and the number of companies operating it is getting smaller every year. This is due to the large age of the model, as well as the fact that today more powerful and new liners are used in the air transportation market.

Boeing 747 modifications

  • Boeing 747-100 is the basic modification of the aircraft with a flight range of up to 9,500 km and a capacity of 366 to 452 people (with a three-class and two-class passenger compartment, respectively). Commercial operation of the model began in 1970 by Pan American World Airways. Production of the aircraft continued from 1968 to 1976 and was discontinued due to the oil crisis. Boeing aircraft The 747-100 were subsequently converted by Pan American Airways into a Boeing 747-100SF freighter and sold to other airlines.
  • Boeing 747-100SR - modification "747" with a reduced flight range (letters SR stand for Short Range - short range) for use at short distances. Used mainly in Japan for domestic flights. Also, one of the Boeing 747-100SRs is still used by NASA for towing space shuttles.
  • Boeing 747-100SP - is a serious rework of the Boeing 747 for its greater efficiency (SP stands for Special Performance). So, the fuselage was significantly shortened, the number of passenger seats was 220, and the aircraft itself was optimized to reduce costs - in particular, the flight range was increased.
  • Boeing 747-200 is a modification of the airliner with an elongated hull, increased takeoff weight, more powerful engines and, as a result, increased flight range. Developed in 1971. The Boeing 747-200 has a number of options. Among them: Boeing 747-200B (improved modification with more powerful engines), Boeing 747-200F (cargo modification), Boeing 747-200C (aircraft for carrying either cargo or passengers), Boeing 747-200M Combi (cargo-passenger version).
  • Boeing 747-300 - modification of the liner with an extended upper deck, which made it possible to increase the aircraft's capacity. It was originally planned that the 747-300 would be a three-engine version, however, due to the low demand for three-engine liners, it was released with 4 engines in 1980. There are two variants of the Boeing 747-300: 747-300M (combined, cargo-and-passenger version) and 747-300SR (short-range aircraft).
  • Boeing 747-400 is the most popular aircraft modification. Outwardly, it differs from other aircraft of the family in that it has vertical wingtips. At the same time, there is a special series of Boeing 747-400, which is operated in Japan on domestic flightswhere these endings are missing. Inside, the aircraft is distinguished by a more advanced avionics system, which made it possible to reduce the crew, as well as a lower noise level. Also, the Boeing 747-400 is significantly more economical than its counterparts, which ensured its popularity. For this modification, there are such options as: Boeing 747-400M (cargo-passenger), Boeing 747-400SF and Boeing 747-400SF (cargo modifications), as well as Boeing 747-400ER (modification with increased flight range).
  • Boeing 747-8 is a modification of the airliner with increased takeoff weight and capacity, developed in 2010. Commercial operation began the following year, 2011.
  • The Boeing 747 LCF Dreamlifter is a cargo modification based on the Boeing 747-400. Has a higher fuselage and payload.

To perform long-haul flights, Transaero Airlines has operated 20 wide-body double-decked Boeing 747-400 aircraft.

They can be roughly divided into three groups depending on the configuration of the cabin: 522, 461 and 447 passenger seats. The layout of most of the liners (13 out of 20 units) is designed for 522 seats. That is why we will dwell on it in more detail.

Consider a three-class cabin Boeing 747-400 with 522 passenger seats

The liner of this configuration has two decks - upper and lower. Let's start our review from the top.

Upper deck

1-3 rows belong to the business class. The best conditions for a comfortable flight have been created here. The salon is equipped with the latest technology. The armchairs are comfortable, with built-in 15.4-inch monitors.

The approximate distance between the rows is more than 1.5 m, so there is a lack of free space there will be no legs.

WITH 5 rows economic class begins. Because the classrooms are separated only by a decorative screen, passengers in the first row will have ample legroom. These places are considered the most comfortable in the "economy". The chairs have built-in monitors with a diagonal of 8.9 inches. The distance between the rows is about 86 cm. The best seats on the plane.

9 row last row of economy class. Behind it there is a staircase to the lower deck and a restroom. This can create some discomfort when flying. For this reason, the seats in the 9th row are marked with yellow warning on the interior layout.

So, we go to the lower deck.

Lower deck

The lower deck houses only the tourist class. There are 470 places in total. As in the "economy", monitors have a diagonal of 8.9 inches. The distance between the seats is 78 cm (31 inches).

IN 10, 11 and 12 rows A, B, H, K located in 2 and not 3 places. These places are marked in green, as they are places of increased comfort.

The disadvantages include the fact that attachments for baby strollers are installed in the bow area of \u200b\u200bthe airliner, so you may find yourself among passengers with small children.

IN 19 row due to the proximity to emergency exits, the backrests of the seats can be fixed or limited in reclining.

IN 20-22 rows, seats D, E and G - not very comfortable seats on the plane. Toilets are located on both sides. Long flights can be inconvenient due to queues at the restrooms, the sound of a tank being drained, and unpleasant odors.

The same disadvantages apply A, B, C, H, K, L.

IN 29 row the seats are also fixed, as they are located near emergency exits. And the middle chairs in this row do not recline, as they rest against the wall of the restroom.

Near places 31 rows A, B, C there is additional legroom. The armrests are equipped with folding tables. The disadvantages 31A can be attributed to the fact that the door may protrude slightly, and about 31C placed a staircase.

IN 32-34 row seats C are located near the stairs, along which personnel and passengers constantly move during the flight. This can cause some discomfort and inconvenience.

Have rows 43, 54, 70, 71 the backs of the seats are fixed due to the close placement of the escape hatches.

44 and 55 rows have a lot of legroom, but close to toilets can be a problem.

In extreme 67-70 rows there are 2 and not 3 chairs. This can be called an advantage, especially if you are traveling as a couple. However, in the last rows, the backs of the chairs may not recline, and do not forget about the proximity to the toilets.

Transaero has 3 configurations of this type of aircraft - 447, 461 and 522 seats. When registering online, we advise you to additionally clarify the location of this or that seat with an airline representative!

Meals on board the Boeing 747-400 Transaero

On board, business class passengers are offered a very limited range of meals. Tourist and Economy Class gets a standard set of meals. However, hot is always served in flight. Based on the duration of the flight, meals are organized 1 or 2 times.

Flight attendants start serving food simultaneously from two counters. The stands are located next to rows 35 and 54. In the first pillar, a pair of flight attendants walk from row 10 and “down”, while another pair serves passengers starting from row 43 in the “up” direction. They move towards each other. In the second stance, the 4 stewarts run from rows 44 and 71 in the same way.

First, drinks (an aperitif) are dispensed, after which lunchboxes or hot dishes are dispensed, and at the end - coffee and tea.

Additionally

In 1985, Boeing announced the development of an improved version of the 747-300. The new version differs from the previous ones not only in the elongated upper passenger cabin (as on the 747-300 aircraft), but also in the increased wingspan by 3.66 m (at the ends of which vertical aerodynamic surfaces with a height of 1.8 m are located), a two-seater crew cabin, the presence digital avionics complex EFIS and more powerful engines equipped with an electronic control system FADEC.

The wing structure uses alloys used on Boeing 757 and 767 aircraft, as a result of which the weight of the structure is reduced by 2.7 tons.

The first flight of the prototype aircraft (powered by PW4056 engines) took place on April 29, 1988, and in January 1989, Northwest Airlines received the first aircraft.

Cargo variant 747-400F designed to carry cargo weighing up to 110 tons. This aircraft is considered by the US Air Force as a reserve of strategic transport aviation. At the end of 1993, Boeing proposed to increase the takeoff weight of the 747-400 aircraft, first to 397.2 tons, and then to 417.6 tons. But this required a significant reinforcement of the structure, and the company stopped further work. In the early 1990s, the 747-X aircraft project appeared, which, in terms of the number of seats, was supposed to take a place between the 747-400 aircraft and the promising VLCT aircraft for 600-700 seats.
In 1995, Boeing offered two versions of the aircraft with a new wing span of about 74 m. The 747-500X version was a slightly elongated 747-400 aircraft and could carry 440-450 passengers in the cockpit of three classes. The 747-600X variant had a fuselage 80 m long and was intended to carry almost 550 passengers in a three-class cabin.
