Gasoline-powered, dates back to the 19th century. Since then, this type of mechanical transport has undergone significant changes and gained great popularity in various areas of life. And this is not surprising - the bus is easy to use, roomy, and its modern models offer maximum comfort.

One of the most interesting models of this transport is the double-decker bus. At one time, it was created to increase the passenger capacity on London roads. Now such a bus is rarely used as urban transport, but it has found excellent application in the tourism sector.

The double-decker bus is mainly intended for the transport of seated passengers, but it also has opportunities for long distances. A special advantage during excursions is for those who sit on the top floor and have the opportunity to explore the surroundings. Some models of vehicles have an open top, which is very popular with tourists, but not suitable for rainy days.

The advantages of a bus with two floors are obvious. It can accommodate twice as many passengers as a regular one; has high maneuverability and dynamics; has a high tourist attraction. There is a misconception about the tendency of these buses to tip over, but, in fact, they all have an anti-tip mechanism.

It is worth considering that a double-decker bus has a number of inconveniences. In particular, a high garage with a high height and the development of a route that excludes low bridges and the proximity of trees.

Now double-decker buses are produced by several companies different countries... Among them are the Swedish concern Volvo, the German company MAN and its subsidiary NEOMAN, as well as the German bus manufacturer Mercedes-Benz.

Travel companies are happy to use the MAN bus for excursions. The Man Wagon Union has a large retractable roof that allows for long distances in warmer months. This model is used exclusively as a tourist bus.

For a large group of passengers, the Man Jonckheere is ideal. It is designed for 75 seats, equipped with air conditioning, microphone, DVD system and toilet.

The Man Lion, s City DD, which seats 85 passengers, has even more capacity. This bus is the epitome of transport comfort. It provides places and ramps for disabled people, wide walkways, a spacious storage with folding backs, two stairs. Moreover, the staircase on the back landing is designed so that you can go directly to the second floor, bypassing the first. The bus has three wide entrances and a low-floor ground floor without steps. The height of this model is over 4 meters, so the view from the second floor gives an amazing feeling. Bus driving is a pure pleasure - everything is aimed at reducing fatigue and distracting the driver. A special computer program "monitors" the work of the liner.

The double-decker bus is increasingly being introduced into the tourism sector, as it fully pays for its costs. Tourists always prefer doubledecker for travel. It also benefits from its large storage capacity.

What does not happen in life, now I know how they pass excursions around Moscow on a double-decker bus with audio guides :). Why not, in every decent european city there are such. They are called "hop-on - hop-off", that is, "enter-exit". You buy a ticket for 1 or 2 days and you can ride, getting off and returning to the bus at least at every stop.

Tour of Moscow on a double-decker bus

So in Moscow I had a chance to ride a hop-on-hop-off. Actually, I intended to get into the Tretyakov Gallery, but the line at the entrance did not inspire. It's not fun to stand on the street in such chilly weather, I went where my eyes were looking, that is, forward. And on Bolotnaya Square I saw a red double-decker bus approaching, here they have the beginning and end of the circular route, right opposite the Luzhkov Bridge.

So, bus tour across Moscow on a red double-decker bus. Photo again from a smartphone, sorry :).

Tickets and benefits

The price of the ticket, of course, is rather biting for a banal excursion (all the more so, with the recording of an audio guide, which you cannot ask any clarifying questions or listen to again if distracted). But that's why she and Moscow. How much does a two-day city tour cost?

Because they don't sell tickets for one day, only for two:

  • 1200 RUB for adults,
  • 1000 RUB for pensioners and students,
  • 800 for children under 13 and disabled people of 2-3 groups.
  • Family tickets are cheaper (from 3000 rubles for three).
  • Free - on weekdays only! - for children under 6 years old, disabled people of the 1st group, WWII veterans and pensioners over 75 years old, journalists and hotel concierges.

For foreigners, all tickets for 300 rubles. expensive.

View all actual prices (which are likely to grow in June in connection with the 2018 FIFA World Cup) and you can buy tickets online in advance

I do not fall into any of the preferential categories. Well, okay, why not feel like a tourist, especially in such weather and in a warm bus. Maybe I'll find out interesting things about familiar places. I paid, got a Moscow card and headphones and climbed up to the second floor.

True, upon closer examination of the issued map with routes, it turned out that 200 rubles. you could save money if you had a ticket from the Moscow museum (I just had a couple of tickets in my bag) or 30% if I presented a check from the Detsky Mir chain of stores.

But they do not warn about this in advance, the card is issued after paying for the ticket. The steward refused to recalculate the tax. Say, who knows, he uses the discounts. I wonder if someone goes on these excursions again?

Route they have two, duration without traffic jams:

  • red No. 1 around the Kremlin - 1 hour, 10 km, 18 stops (Bolotnaya Square - Udarnik Cinema - Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts - Kropotkinskaya Metro Station - Sivtsev Vrazhek Lane - Arbat Square - Aleksandrovsky Garden - Okhotny Ryad - Theater Square - Lubyanskaya Square - GUM - Red Square - Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge - Factory "Red October" - Sofiyskaya Embankment (Udarnik Cinema) - Sofiyskaya Embankment (Balchug Street),
  • green No. 2 - through Vorobyovy Gory and Kievsky railway station - 2 hours, 20 km, 25 stops (Bolotnaya Square - "Udarnik Cinema" - Pushkin Bridge (on demand) - Observation deck on Vorobyovy Hills - "Europe Square" - "Kievsky Station" - Embankment Tarasa Shevchenko - Hotel "Ukraine" - Berth of "Radisson" flotilla - Borodinsky bridge - Novinsky boulevard - Cinema "October" - Moscow House of Books - Arbatskaya square - Patriarshy bridge - Moskvoretsky bridge - Zaryadye - Kotelnicheskaya embankment).

Routes sometimes change; during traffic jams, detour routes are possible.

With the purchased ticket, you can ride on both routes an unlimited number of times, get off at stops for sightseeing, shopping or other needs, and then back to the bus (the interval on the red route is 15-20 minutes, on the green route - 30-40 minutes. )

Tourist bus timetable

Start:

Buses short and long routes start moving at 10 am from Bolotnaya Square all year round, seven days a week. The interval of the short route is 15 minutes, of the long one - 30.

The ending:

In summer, from May to October, last flight both routes are sent at 18-00.

In winter, from November to April:

On weekdays:short red route no. 1 - at 17:00, long green route no. 2 - 16:40 .

On weekends and holidays:red route number 1 and green route number 2 - 17:20 .

Both routes on Bolotnaya:

Excursion

The second floor of the bus is half heated, the rear for the warm season, with an opening top:

It is really more interesting to look from the second floor, you can see the stucco molding on the walls of the houses.

The tour is conducted in eight languages, you can switch in your headphones: into Russian, English, German, Spanish, French, Chinese, Italian or Arabic.

The audio guide, of course, is tuned to tourists of the first wave, do not expect special details about the buildings from it, although the story is slightly flavored with jokes. Well, for foreigners there are many explanations like these: Muscovites called the Ministry of Defense and the General Staff "the Russian Pentagon", and Novy Arbat before the ban on casinos was "Moscow Las Vegas."

pros survey bus tour Hop-on-hop-off:

  • you can ride for two days with one ticket, get off at interesting stops and take the next bus,
  • in the cold season, you can warm up, if you are not in a hurry, you can roll for 2-3 laps :),
  • in summer you can buy a bus + boat ticket.

Bus audio guides, unlike live guides, of course, have their own minuses:

  • the description of the objects you pass includes the steward. Accordingly, you will not be able to clarify or ask again. And even rewinding and re-listening (if suddenly distracted), as in individual museum audio guides, will not work.
  • since traffic jams are not uncommon in Moscow, especially on weekdays, the resulting pauses are sometimes filled with general facts about the city, but their frequency also depends on the mood of the steward.

In general, the impression of excursions on Moscow double-decker buses is as follows: for those who have arrived for the first time, the price is quite tolerable for two days of walking, for foreign tourists with the current exchange rate, it is generally a freebie.

Just do not forget to take checks from the Children's World or tickets from museums before the trip :).

Write your feedback on hop-on-hop-off excursions, it's interesting to compare.

However, for that kind of money, you can ride the subway in two days, and there will be more museums left.

Or take a tour with a live guide, to whom you can ask questions:

And in the center at good weather it's better to walk on foot, it's still pretty close.

By the way, there is, it turns out it's still free hiking on Red Square, on Tuesdays from 14 to 15 hours:

There is also a cool option for an excursion even for Muscovites, a walk on the rooftops of Moscow is very cool, breathtaking views and so many photos can be taken:

As a rule, the route on the red bus goes a small circle, but at the same time, such tours allow passengers to get off the bus at any place, and then in the same way enter another bus running along the same route.

There are only two types of excursions around Moscow on a double-decker bus from City Sightseeing. The first view is red, on red bus # 1, and the second is green, # 2. These excursion tours have the same schedule, but the length and route are different.

  • Bolotnaya embankment (square)... There are not many attractions here, the embankment is better known for its historical events, such as the Kara Emelyan Pugachev, and other public executions. In the 18th century, a large number of monastic and princely gardens and orchards were located on the square, festivals were organized and traded. But now it is a beautiful, ennobled park area, with a large number of benches, flower beds, monuments - I.E. Repin, the sculptural composition "Children - Victims of Adult Vices", Luzhkov Bridge and its iron "Trees of Love" and just playgrounds where you can go for a walk with your family.

  • State Museum of Fine Arts named after A.S. Pushkin... Well, you don't really need to talk about this place. The Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts was founded in 1898, although it was called a museum of "fine" arts and the name of Alexander III, but even since then the museum is not just a university scientific center, it is the place where the most incredible and authentic works of art from antiquity and modern times are collected.
  • Moscow metro station "Kropotkinskaya"... In addition to the marble-granite metro station itself, which was awarded the Grand Prix at the exhibition in Paris and Brussels, on the surface there are such famous landmarks as the Cathedral of Christ the Savior, the Patriarch's Bridge, the Library. Lenin, a monument to Alexander II, as well as a huge number of museums and galleries.
  • Lane Sivtsev Vrazhek... The lane is located between Gogolevsky boulevard and lane. Money, on the very lane. Sivtsev Vrazhek has something to see. A huge number of residential buildings are located here, in which very famous actors, writers, senior military leaders, doctors and many other public figures of the Soviet period lived earlier.
  • Arbat Gate Square (Arbat Square)... The square begins to come to life and fill with new colors in the evening and gathers a huge number of people on its territory. There is a ground lobby of the Arbatskaya metro station, Arbatskiye Vorota square, Merchant Morozov's mansion, Prague restaurant, Peace Wall, a monument to N.V. Gogol, if you walk through these places, the evening excursion promises to be very interesting.
  • Mokhovaya Street (Alexandrovsky Garden)... Driving along Makhovaya Street you can see such sights as the Russian State Library, the monument to F.M. Dostoevsky, if you go to the parallel street (Manezhnaya), then you can get to the Alexander Garden itself and to the north-western wall of the Kremlin.
  • Street and metro station "Okhotny Ryad"... Passing Manezhnaya Square, the Geological Museum, you can see the famous Okhotnoryadskaya Street, where the Labor and Defense Council Building, the Moscow Hotel, the metro station lobby in the Okhotny Ryad building and the Soyuz House are located.
  • theatre square... Immediately after Okhotny Ryad begins Teatralnaya Square, which houses the Bolshoi, Molodyozhny and Maly theaters, the combined lobby of the Moscow metro stations Teatralnaya and Okhotny Ryad, the Metropol hotel, as well as monuments to Vysotsky, Ostrovsky and Marx.
  • Metro station "Lubyanka" (Lubyanskaya sq.)... When the sightseeing tour of Moscow reaches this square, it is better to get off the bus and walk around the square, observing the whole architectural ensemble... On the square there are the Building of the Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation, the Biblio-Globus Trade House, the KGB Computing Center, the Solovetsky Stone Square and Monument, the Detsky Mir Department Store, a museum and many other interesting structures that require only multi-day excursions.
  • Upper shopping arcade, GUM... An incredibly large shopping mall located and overlooking main square country with its "face" is still a "general store", where you can not only shop, but also drink coffee in a cozy cafe and look at people passing by.
  • the Red Square... The most popular and demanded trip to the main square of Moscow is the New Year's tour. During this fabulous period, the square itself is transformed, a huge New Year tree appears on it and ice rink, which first appeared on the square back in 2006. Of course, on other days and seasons there is much to go and see on the square. This is St. Basil's Cathedral, a museum, by all famous mausoleum, Execution Ground, Upper and Middle Trading Rows, etc. Tourists are allowed to take a selfie and shoot video in the square and indoors.
  • Big Moskvoretsky bridge... After the square, on the excursion red bus you will pass along the Bolshoi Moskvoretsky Bridge, which stretches across the Moskva River, and then you will get to Balchug Street.
  • Balchug street... Further, the excursions on a double-decker bus in Moscow practically end, on this street you can look at the Balguch Kempinski hotel and the Balguch Plaza business center.
  • Confectionery factory "Red October"... Then the trip on the official City Sightseeing bus continues to the Red October factory founded in 1851 and producing such famous sweets as Alyonka, Mishka Clubfoot, Kara-Kum, Golden Key, etc.
  • Cinema "Udarnik"... This "red" excursion begins to finally close, returning to the famous cinema.
  • Balchug street... Then again the excursion leads to Balchug Street, and from there to Bolotnaya Square, where the bus picks up new passengers.

"Green" route number 2 also passes half of the listed attractions, and also includes such famous placeslike Old Arbat, Novospassky, Patriarch, Bolshoi Ustinsky and Borodinsky Bridge, Novospassky Monastery, Church of the Holy Apostles Peter and Paul and others.

How to book a tour

The tour can be booked online, which makes a "Moscow" route to the sights. To do this, you need to go to the official website or the website of City Sightseeing partners and make a purchase.

City Sightseeing Bus Day Tour

Day trips or excursions for 2 days on a red doubledecker are very convenient. At any time of the day, namely from 10:00 in the morning, you can board the red double decker anywhere along the running route.

There will be no need to look for buses at the station, as they stop at the "red" signs that are located around the city. The main and main parking of both routes is Bolotnaya Square near the monument.

Red bus schedule

The double-decker sightseeing bus has two schedules:

  • May to October: The first flight departs at 10 am and the last at 5:15 pm. On weekends, the last “first” route leaves the square at 18:30, and the “second” green one half an hour earlier, ie. at 18:00.
  • From November to April: the first flight on weekdays departs at 10:00, the last "red" and "green", respectively, at 17:00 and 16:00, on weekends and holidays at 18:00 and 17:00.

Sometimes due to the condition of the roads, possible repair work, due to possible Moscow traffic jams and other unforeseen circumstances, the schedule and the route itself along which the doubledecker runs may change without prior notification of passengers.

The duration of the first red bus running on route No. 1 lasts an average of 1 hour, while the doubledecker stops at the most remarkable sights for 10 minutes, along the entire route you can listen to an audio guide that tells about historical incidents and the sights themselves on 8 languages \u200b\u200bof the world.

In terms of the length of the flight number 1, it takes about 10 kilometers, but it passes them in an hour, so that all tourists can take full and high-quality photos from the second floor of the bus. Route number 2 is twice as long as the first (20 km), therefore, more time will be spent on the trip, namely 1.5-2 hours, depending on the state of the roads and congestion.

Excursion red doubledeckers run daily without days off, multi-day (more than 2 days) or excursions from Moscow are not provided, since the bus makes its flight along the route within the Moscow Ring Road and in one hour.

But those who bought a ticket on the spot or via the Internet are given the opportunity to use the bus services for one or two days, entering and leaving the board at any time of the day until 18:00, the so-called "hop-on hop-off".

Prices for sightseeing tours in Moscow

In general, the price of a ticket for a red excursion double decker in Moscow depends on several factors:

  1. The ticket price is different for residents and foreign travelers. For the latter, it is slightly more expensive than for Muscovites or people living in other regions of Russia.
  2. The ticket price depends on the number of days, there are two options: either 1 day, i.e. 24 hours or two days.
  3. The ticket price differs depending on which category of passengers you belong to. For adult residents, the cost of 1 day excursion is 1,000 rubles per person, for pensioners and students - 800 rubles, for children (from 0 to 6 years old), disabled people of the 1st group and veterans of the Great Patriotic War - free.
