All about Cyprus why go there for a vacation. What a tourist needs to know about Cyprus. Guides in Cyprus

Where to rest

Summer is coming, which means that many of us are thinking where in Cyprus it is better to relax with children, where to go for fun and beautiful views, and in general, when is it better to go on vacation.

Cyprus is a small island located between Egypt and Turkey, but one part of it is called "Turkish" - tourism is practically undeveloped here, and the other, by a strange coincidence - "Greek", is where the entire tourist flow is concentrated.

Cyprus regularly receives its "blue flags" - special distinctions that are awarded to bodies of water and beaches with the cleanest water. Accordingly, the beaches of Cyprus are ideal for families with children. But where exactly should you turn your gaze? Where is the best place to relax in Cyprus?

So, we can conditionally divide all Cypriot resorts into two parts - active and calm. First, about the active ones.

A universal resort where people of any generation will find it interesting and good. From entertainment there are several water parks, a menagerie and an amusement park. A big plus is that there is a large number of Russian-speaking population in Limassol - no communication problems will arise even without knowledge of English.

However, it should be borne in mind that Limassol is very popular among tourists, and it is natural that a large number of tourists come here for the summer.

The tourism sector in Larnaca is very active. By the way, it is from here that it is most convenient to travel around the island, and there is also an international airport, but here it is still less noisy than in Limassol and Ayia Napa.

Ayia Napa

This place is often called the new Ibiza - it is noisy and fun all the time, and the owners of various bars and clubs are constantly coming up with new methods for fun. Young people and those who like positive, fun-filled holidays flock here.

At the same time, it is Ayia Napa that boasts of its ideal golden sandy beaches. The descent into the water is gentle, and there are no winds typical for Cyprus. Children will love the excellent antique-style water park.

And where to relax in Cyprus without noisy companies nearby? And there are such resorts here.

An amazing place that all history and architecture lovers will love. There is a kind of division into the old and new Year... In the old are old architectural complexes, ancient monuments, and in the new one there are restaurants, shops, boutiques and many offices.

Also Ikosia can please tourists great beacheswhich are well equipped.

Pathos

If there is a place in the world that best demonstrates the atmosphere Mediterranean Seaso this is Paphos. Before this city was the capital, and now it is popular resort... By the way, not only popular, but also quite expensive.

But it is not very convenient to relax with kids here - hotels and beaches practically do not provide children's recreation... But here you can happily spend a romantic vacation or even honeymoon - there is a belief that nearby Aphrodite herself emerged from the foam of the sea.

This is a great resort for a quiet family vacation. If you do not need a large number of animators and children's entertainment, and are ready to simply enjoy the unity with nature and communication with the closest people, then it is best to go here.

There are leisurely fishing fairs, lots of sunny days and many yachts. By the way, Cypriots love to relax in Polis (and, in my opinion, this says something).

A good citywhere it is pleasant to relax with the whole family. It is located not far from the noisy Ayia Napa, and is absolutely not inferior to it in infrastructure and equipment, but at the same time it is much quieter and quieter here, and if you wish, you can always rush for entertainment in Ayia Napa.

A multi-visa is issued according to the standard scenario:

  • a copy of the first spread of the passport;
  • color photo;
  • a certificate from the place of work or a bank statement.
If you are planning a vacation with a child, and one of his parents or guardians remains at home, then it is better to obtain permission to leave in advance.

Cypriots rarely refuse a visa to Russian citizens.

Features:

Naturally, a beach holiday in Cyprus is in the order of things, but what else can you do? If you are planning family holiday in Cyprus, you should pay attention to the following activities:
  1. sightseeing and educational rest - visiting all kinds of excursions is a great opportunity to get to know the history and culture of the island;
  2. all kinds of entertainment - water parks, amusement parks and other entertainment;
  3. menageries, zoos, turtle and fish reserves, a donkey or camel farm;
  4. visiting waterfalls and natural attractions;
  5. acquaintance with local cuisine and winemaking, as well as various crafts - for example, weaving baskets.
The peculiarities of holidays in Cyprus are such that you should not wait for a green island drowning in flowers and plants - the local climate allows an abundance of greenery only in spring, and in summer it is quite arid here.

If you are planning independent travelthen pay attention to chain hotels located on the outskirts - as a rule, prices are much nicer in them.

The cost

Speaking of prices, how much does a vacation in Cyprus cost? More recently, Cyprus was an excellent alternative to Turkey, and even the Black Sea coastbut now everything has changed.

If you go on vacation on a tourist voucher, then the cost will vary depending on the season. In high season, a trip for two in a four-star hotel will cost about 90-95 thousand rubles.

Hotels with a slightly lower rank will cost around 70-80 thousand rubles (for a stay of two weeks).

If you want to save money, then it makes sense to consider either early booking (the price may be 20% lower), or planning a vacation in September is the most budgetary month, when prices are already falling, and the sea is still warm.

Independent travelers can save on accommodation - for example, renting a house or a villa for several families, the prices will be very pleasant.

If you are planning to get to know the island, then you can get around by taxi or by bus, but driving a rented car can be quite difficult - the traffic here is left-hand. The cost of a bus ticket is about EUR 1.5-3. If you plan to travel with the whole family, then a taxi will cost about the same price as tickets for all family members.

Food in Cyprus is inexpensive, and the portions are very large - you can have dinner for two for 30-35 euros.

Useful information

And how to fly away on vacation in Cyprus literally tomorrow? To do this, it makes sense to look for last minute deals - their cost is several times lower than usual, and the hotels are very, very decent.

What else do you need to know about Cyprus vacation 2018? The local population is very friendly and very positive towards tourists, so no difficulties will arise. If you are traveling with a child, then keep in mind that Cypriots love children very much.

When planning a trip to Cyprus, many ladies are interested not only in something simple, such as how much it costs to rest and where to go to rest, but also which resorts in Cyprus should be chosen with an eye to shopping. It is best to give preference to Limassol and Nicosia - it is absolutely safe to buy things of any European brands here, and in general these cities are well suited for recreation - here the best beaches, and the Cypriot climate in summer will delight absolutely everyone.

Where better to go to enjoy nature? In my opinion, no more beautiful than the citythan Paphos - we see numerous photos and videos of this city very, very often. Speaking of photos - if you don't trust the advertising photos that are posted by the tour operator or the hotel, then you can always go for a little trick and see the photos on Instagram - a rare vacationer does not show his vacation.

If your family plans to have a rest without frills, but do not deny themselves anything (for example, do not stand in line for lunch in an inexpensive cafe, but dine in restaurants), then you should have at least a thousand euros for expenses.

The required budget can be calculated in the following way - take your usual budget and multiply it by at least 1.5 (do not forget, Cyprus is still Europe), or better by 2 - so as not to deny yourself the purchase of souvenirs.

Traditions and customs

Due to historical events, the island is divided into two parts, and the customs of these two territories are very different in religious and cultural terms. Some Cypriots have adopted the traditions and customs of their close neighbor, Turkey. In the northern regions, children are given Turkish names, on the menu you will see most of the dishes of Turkish cuisine, and the inhabitants of this unrecognized territory are Muslims. Another part of the inhabitants of the island prefers Greek traditions, uses Greek national food and professes Orthodoxy.

Cypriots are cheerful and welcoming people. Therefore, various holidays and festivals are often held on the island. The unforgettable Wine Festival is especially attractive. It is held in early autumn in Limassol. This enchanting action lasts for several days, accompanied by folk music, pouring free wine from barrels and performances by artists on themes from Greek myths.

In May, a flower fair is held in Kyrenia. Also at the end of August, there is an interesting folk dance festival and a lemon festival in Karavas. An unforgettable sight is the Flood Festival, the procession participants move through the entire city, pour themselves and splash on people they meet on the way. But despite all the abundance of holidays, the most pompous is Easter.

Entertainment and excursions

For vacationers, unforgettable prospects open up here. Those who are closer to a cognitive form of recreation are offered thematic excursions around the island, visits to monasteries and travels to the monuments of antiquity.

A visit will be of great interest:

  • the medieval castle of Kolossi;
  • destroyed in the IV century. e. ancient city Kourion, where the Greco-Roman amphitheater has been preserved and restored;
  • tour of the locations of the Byzantine churches - Kakopetria, as well as way back visit to the wine-making village of Omodos;
  • the temple of Apollo, where in former times the inhabitants of Kourion praised the patron saint of the city of Apollo of Hilates;
  • the corner where Aphrodite was born - Paphos.

Vacationers with children can plunge into fascinating world Aquapark and Dolphinarium, see the aquarium and "show dancing fountains". For fidgets and people who like to actively spend their leisure time, Cyprus provides many opportunities: horseback riding, golf, safari tours, tennis. Popular activities include yachting, fishing, spearfishing for octopus, diving.

Cyprus cuisine

Greek cuisine is dominant among the islanders, with a lot of seafood being used. Also, the basis of Cypriot cuisine is made up of meat and vegetable products. The culinary specialty is meze (a lunch consisting of 25-30 items). First, they bring snacks, and at the end, meat and fish delicacies.

Excellent taste in dishes with the addition of halloumi, feta and young walnuts in syrup. And the island's wines, fortified spirits and liqueurs are worth tasting. A tip of 10% is immediately included in the bill, but if you decide to add some coins, they will be accepted with gratitude.

Shopping

During high season, shops are open from 7:00 to 20:00, sometimes until 22:00. In the low season (November - March) they are open from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm (the break lasts two hours, starting at 13:00). Trade establishments do not provide services after lunch on Wednesday and Saturday. Sunday is a day off.

They bring from Cyprus:

  • liqueurs, dessert wines such as "Commandaria", "Namas", bought in the monastery cellars of Kykkos;
  • silver products, handmade lace;
  • paintings with a marine theme, jewelry;
  • leather clothes, fur coats;
  • souvenir figurines of Aphrodite, dolls in local folklore costumes, ship models;
  • The island of Cyprus is a favorite destination for russian tourists... This is not surprising. The country is absolutely safe. You can just drink water from the tap without risking getting an intestinal and gastric disease. And smokers should remember that the island has the toughest restrictions on smoking in public places in the European Union.

What a tourist needs to know about Cyprus?

Greetings to all visitors to my blog! I wrote a small guide to the island, where I collected everything a tourist who comes to Cyprus for the first time needs to know.

Of course, it is difficult to fit a full guidebook into one post, but the most necessary information for getting to know the island is here.

I wrote a separate article about what to do and what to see. Details about entertainment and possible leisure for tourists can be viewed, tomorrow I will publish it and the link will become active.

In this post, read about the island's geography, climate and season, beaches, hotels, cuisine, visa regime, currency, transport, mobile communications and the Internet, security and important holidays.

The article about Cyprus was quite voluminous. To save time, you can go directly to the desired section by clicking on the item of interest in the content.

Cyprus is one of the most large islands Mediterranean Sea, its area is third after Sicily and Sardinia. The island is surrounded by Turkey, Syria, Egypt, Crete, and its area is just over nine thousand square kilometers.

The landscape of Cyprus is mountainous, on its territory there is a large mountainous region and the Kyrenia ridge, which stretches along coastline in the north-east. The main peak of the ridge is Mount Arkomanda, you can climb it, breaking 1023 meters. And in the west of the island there is an even larger mountain range - Troodos, the top of which goes up 1952 meters.

For many years the island has been a tasty morsel for the surrounding countries. Due to the ideal location, in the very center of the Mediterranean Sea, the Assyrians, Egyptians, Persians and Romans tried to get Cyprus. For many centuries, Cyprus has been part of Byzantium, Venice, the Ottoman and British empires.

The last Turkish invasion actually divided the island into two parts: the Republic of Cyprus, where hundreds of thousands of tourists come, and Northern Cyprus, which is not popular with tourists.

Read about the capital of Cyprus - Nicosia.

Climate

Cyprus is located in the subtropics - the local mild climate is ideal for a cozy holiday.

Summer on the island is hot and rainless. In the warmest months, the air temperature on the island varies from +25 to +40 degrees, which undoubtedly pleases tourists.

Winter in Cyprus is warm and with precipitation, the average air temperature is +10 - +20 degrees, and in mountainous areas it can drop to -4 - - 7. The sea water temperature in summer rises to +24, in winter it drops to +14 degrees.

Season

The high tourist season in Cyprus takes place in the summer and early autumn, when the heat is gone and the sea is still warm and pleasant.

The peak of the season falls in July and August - during this period, Cypriot hotels are filled to the maximum, and the air temperature during the day reaches +40 degrees. Winters on the island are mild, but most of the annual precipitation falls in January and February. Mid-autumn and the second half of spring are off-season at the resort. The weather is comfortable, sometimes hot, but the sea water is no longer warm enough for swimming.

The best beaches

The best Cypriot beaches await tourists in Ayia Napa and Protaras.

Niss Beach is a very picturesque and popular beach with white fine sand. Cypriots love the Ladies Mile Beach, located west of the city of Limassol and the longest on the island. The most fun and interesting parties are gathered by the Governor's beach.

Larnaca boasts the wonderful beaches of Mackenzie and Finikoudes, which are owned by the Cyprus Tourism Organization.

Since the beaches on the island are municipal, not many of them offer free sun loungers - their average cost of renting a sun lounger and umbrella is 5-7 euros.

A short description of the main resorts and beaches of the coast can be found in.

Hotels

Cyprus has excellent hotels of all possible categories. Even the cheapest 2-star hotels offer decent European service. All rooms have air conditioning, and the reception is staffed by friendly, often Russian-speaking staff.

Limited breakfasts are included in 2 star hotels, while 3, 4 and 5 star hotels usually include a buffet.

The hotels have expensive restaurants, a variety of activities for children, and high-end hotels have their own beaches. The average cost of rooms in 4 and 5 star hotels is 4000 - 8000 rubles per day.

Renting an apartment in Paphos, Limassol or Larnaca will cost from 75 to 200 euros per day, and from 650 to 1300 euros per week, depending on the season and location of the housing.

My review for tourists of one of the hotels in Paphos -.

Kitchen

The main culinary traditions of Cyprus are influenced by Greek cuisine as well as Turkish and Arab culinary traditions.

On the island, much attention is paid to fish dishes and seafood, which are abundant here. The traditional Cypriot appetizer is a shashlik in a flatbread, and the Cypriots prefer baked fish or grilled lamb as the main dish. A lot of cheese is added to salads, and rice porridge with nuts and cinnamon, halva and fruits with honey are served for sweets.

The original alcoholic drink - grape moonshine, Zivania, it contains 80% alcohol, is very popular with tourists.

Visa regime

Cyprus is part of the European Union but is not a member of the Schengen Agreement. To enter the island, citizens of Russia, Kazakhstan and other CIS countries need a Cyprus visa.

Documents for a visa:

  • international passport and a copy of its first page
  • questionnaire completed on english language
  • color photo in 3x4 format
  • copy tourist vouchers or confirmation of hotel reservation

You can get a visa free of charge, within one day at the Cypriot Embassy or Consulate General.

More detailed information read about how to apply for a visa.
