Cortina d'Ampezzo is considered the queen of the Dolomites. Even the name of the ancient town, decorated with old Gothic cathedrals, demonstrates its romantic mood.

In Cortina d "Ampezzo, events often took place aimed at eradicating the charm and traditions of the city, its owners were at one time the Austrians, at another - the Germans and even the Americans who visited here in 1945, after the end of the Second World War. But identity, its ancient The Ladin language and the spiritual independence of the local residents - Ladins (descendants of the Etruscans, live in the Dolomites, in total there are about 30-35 thousand) - still defended.

In 1956, the Winter Olympic Games were held in Cortina d "Ampezzo, in which the USSR team took part for the first time. winter holidays Numerous lovers of high-quality winter skiing come here every year to feel the insidiousness of the local ski slopes, to assess their strengths and capabilities on the difficult ski slopes of the resort.

It is easy to get to Cortina from the south, but a lot of German-speaking tourists also come from the north, from Dobbiaco (Italian Dobbiaco, German Toblach - Toblach), using the Passo di Cimabanche (Italian, German - Gemärkpass). There are highways and through mountain passes from Alta Badia and Corvara, as well as from Livinalongo del Col di Lana (Arabba ski resort).

Cortina d'Ampezzo has 115 km of ski slopes, which are divided into ski areas and are suitable mainly for well-trained skiers and professionals. Snowing of the slopes is almost always at the highest level, there are very interesting off-piste ski routes and black slopes for extreme sportsmen. The resort is located at an altitude 1225 m, the total length of the ski tracks is 115 km, the height difference of the ski slopes is 1225 -2930 m.

From Cortina d'Ampezzo, using the local free bus, you can easily get to the circular ski area of the Village of Ronda, more popularly known as the Dolomiti Superski. The bus takes skiers to the Passo di Falzarego, to cable carrising to the peak Lagazuoi (Italian Lagazuoi), height 2788 m. From here are laid the routes of the high-mountain valley from the mountain village of Armentarola (Italian Armentarola) to San Cassiano (Italian San Cassiano) and further - according to the scheme indicated in the map of the Selo routes Rhonda.

Directly in Cortina d "Ampeza, skiers do not spend their time on skiing, but on visiting elegant boutiques, interesting antique shops, concentrated on the main pedestrian street - Corso Italia. As soon as dusk falls, tourists fill the local bars and restaurants, rush to the nightclubs.

Hotels

The brightest patrons of the resort are rich Italians from Milan and Rome, who are tired of getting lost among the same rich people skiing in St. Moritz (Switzerland) or Megeve (France), it is uncomfortable to feel in crowded elevators and on ski slopes... In Cortina d "Ampezzo, they are like at home - everything is native here, everything is pleasing, not annoying. The resort's hotels, decorated with carved wooden balconies and antique frescoes, only contribute to a pleasant feeling of true Italian charm.

A total of 165 hotels operate on the territory of the ski resort, there are plenty to choose from. Below are some of the top rated hotels with great reviews among resort patrons.

For most of our compatriots, the Italian Dolomites is an unknown and dark place. Half of them think that this entertainment is not cheap, besides it is seasonal - alpine skiing, snowboarding. The other one has no idea where these Dolomites are and wonders why the Alps ended up in Italy, because they are advertised in Switzerland.

People think in stereotypes, if summer means the sea. And it doesn't matter that this very summer on the beaches of Italy there is sometimes nowhere to throw a towel and lie down, everything is busy. Tell someone that you are going to go on vacation to the mountains in July, and not to the beach, they will think crazy.

For those who have already decided to visit the Alps in the summer - this article is a ready-made guide to the surroundings of Cortina d Ampezzo, for everyone else - a reason to change their idea of the mountains and rest in general.

Cortina d'Ampezzo - how to get there

There is no airport here and there cannot be, as it is a small town, squeezed from all sides mountain ranges... Whichever mode of transport you use (rent a car, train, bus), the most convenient way to get to Cortina is from Venice, which is located 150 km away.

Car rental, transfer from the hotel

This is the simplest and convenient way to travel from Venice to Cortina d'Ampezzo. A taxi will cost about 150 euros. A pre-ordered transfer from the hotel is cheaper, around 100 euros.

You can rent a car... Everyone should be able to get from point A to point B using the navigator. I will say right away that you may need a car only to get to the city, there it is no longer needed. Why, will be discussed further.

By bus

The most budgetary and optimal option. Flights are operated by the company Atvo ... Buses to Cortina d'Ampezzo leave from Venice Marco Polo Airport. You can buy tickets in advance using the official website carrier... One way cost is 25 euros.

In addition to Marco Polo Airport, the website indicates that you can take the bus at stops: directly in Venice at Piazzale Roma, and in Mestre (Mestre, stop right at the train station). There is a little trick here, in fact, from these stops you take the shuttle buses of this company to the Marco Polo airport, and there you change to a bus that goes directly to Cortina d'Ampezzo.

I attach buses... It is better to look at it on the ticket purchase page, since in our case there was an additional flight that was not marked in the file.

By train

Since direct railway communication between Venice and Cortina d'Ampezzo, then this option can not be considered at all.

On the intricacies of tourism or any other resources there are descriptions of how you can get to Dobbiaco and Calalzo di Cadore from Venice with three changes by train, and then from these cities still go by bus to Cortina. And this, in their opinion, is the only option. What sane person will go like this?

In such matters, trust people who have actually been to certain places, who have tested the route on personal experience, and not copywriters who print texts for money in which they do not understand anything.

Cortina d'Ampezzo - where to stay

When choosing accommodation in Cortina, 2 criteria are important: the proximity to the bus station and lifts and the presence of a good restaurant nearby for dinner in the evening. There are serious problems with food here. In the city, at most there will be about a dozen restaurants, of which 3-5 are good. In the evening, you rarely come and just sit down at the table. You need to either pre-book, or wait 30-40 minutes.

From this point of view, ideal central part cities. It is quite tiny, you can get around in 20 minutes. From any hotel to the bus station or the ski lift there is no more than 5 minutes on foot, 95% of all restaurants in the city are located here. There is a supermarket, the only one in the city, where you can buy water and food before heading to the mountains for the day.

The cost of a day in this area is on average 100 - 150 euros. I have highlighted hotels in the city center on the map below.

Map of hotels and routes in Cortina d'Ampezzo

You can find cheaper housing far from the center. It will turn out to save about 20-30 euros per night, but in this case you will have to walk 1-2 km each time to the train station / ski lift and a normal restaurant or adjust to the city bus.

The water is just such a bright blue hue, there is no Photoshop here, as in other photos. The Russian person will certainly be concerned about whether it is possible to swim here. It is possible, but the water is icy, I think about 10 degrees.

Since we headed here after lunch, the sky was already darkening and clouds were gathering. I am not an expert on the local climate, but for all four full days spent here, the weather was like a blueprint. Bright sun and cloudless sky until 1-2 pm. Then the clouds begin to gather and in the evening or at night it always poured rain, sometimes with hail.

The last kilometer of the route to the waterfall is already climbing. It was not possible to photograph it in full size. The place is beautiful, the landscapes are radically different from the alpine meadows of Passo Giau, which we visited a few hours earlier.

The end point of our bike ride was about. Lago Negro, we could have gone further, but that was enough for us. The time spent on the way to the lake is about 2 hours, of which probably 40 minutes are photo stops and rest.

The way back is a real pleasure. You roll downhill, occasionally spinning the pedals.

If you come to Cortina d'Ampezzo in the afternoon, I advise you not to rack your brains about where to go and what to do, but rent a bike and ride through the valley.

Hope this review sheds light on many of the questions that I could not find answers to when planning my trip to Cortina. Here are some important guidelines:

  • I advise you to come here for a week. This time will be enough to see all the above-described places and sights, as well as those to which we have not reached our hands (rather legs).
  • Each route should be started in the morning and given a full day. After arriving in Cortina at the train station, you need to take a fresh schedule of all buses, unfortunately, this information is not available on the Internet.
  • Before going to the mountains, we take 2 liters of water per person, we make / buy sandwiches.

The Dolomites are a way to diversify your annual vacation. It’s not worth living with stereotypes. Discover new places and types of recreation. The same Italy now allows you to be in the mountains, and in a few hours already sunbathe in Sardinia. This is how we put together our trip. - Cortina d'Ampezzo - Venice -. There can be hundreds of options, it all depends on imagination and desire.

Cortina d'Ampezzo is one of the ski resorts in the Italian Alps, united into a single Dolomiti Superski zone. The town is located slightly away from the rest of the districts, in the picturesque valley of the Boite River.

Although the trails of Cortina are more likely to interest beginners and middlings, the resort is considered one of the most fashionable and popular. A good half of tourists come here not so much to ride as to hang out. The main streets are full of luxury hotels, shops, restaurants and clubs. For lovers excursion tourism you will not be bored either - there are several interesting museums in the city and its surroundings.

From the city square are visible beautiful peaks Dolomites - at sunset they turn pink.

The 1944 Winter Olympics were supposed to take place here, but they were canceled due to the Second World War. And only in 1956 the Winter Olympics took place in Cortina, where the USSR national team took part for the first time.

    Characteristics of the ski slopes

The pistes are generally well suited for intermediate skiers. But there are several areas that will thrill the most seasoned athletes.
Novice skiers should try their hand at the slopes of Sokrepes. The slopes are gentle and quite long, and the lifts have recently been modernized. So riding will only give you pleasure.
Intermediate skiers are advised to ski on the slopes of Tofana peak, where there are short trails and always good snow cover. Also pay attention to the slopes of Pomedes.
Professionals should go down the trail from the peaks of Forchella Staunies (2930 m) and Ra Valles (2470 m).
If you are not a fan of downhill skiing, then there are cross-country skiing trails, an ice rink with a large ice rink, bobsleigh trails and jumps.

    Sports, entertainment
In the evenings, the resort is booming. Restaurants, bars, cafes - everything is filled to capacity. The windows of expensive boutiques are illuminated. The fun in the nightclubs does not stop until the morning.
