Short review

Phu Quoc island Is an increasingly popular resort in Vietnam. Located in the southwest of the country, next to Cambodia.

What you need to know:

 • fukuoka has the best beach holiday in all of Vietnam
 • there are few attractions and excursions, but for 1-2 weeks of rest it will be enough
 • the island has a simplified visa regime
 • shopping is not developed at all: there are no shopping centers or large supermarkets
 • Duong Dong (found transcription of Duong Dong) - main city resort (located almost in the center of the island, on west coast)
 • the main infrastructure is concentrated along the Long Beach

In 2019, Phu Quoc is actively developing: new hotels, restaurants, entertainment are being built; the Vietnamese authorities are investing in the popularization of the resort. In 3-5 years, Phu Quoc Island will be completely different.

Visa

You can stay in Vietnam without a visa for 15 days, but there is a special visa regime on Phu Quoc Island - you can stay there for up to 30 days. A free stamp is put at the airport upon arrival.

Note: Border guards will put a 30-day stamp only if you arrived in Phu Quoc international flight (i.e. without a transfer in Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi). This stamp does not allow travel from Fukuoka to mainland Vietnam.

Weather and seasons

The season in Fukuoka is the same as in other resorts in southern Vietnam (Mui Ne, Phan Thiet).

The best time to travel to the island is from December to March-April. it high season - Fukuoka has dry weather, the sea is calm, there are almost no waves. The air temperature during the day is + 30 ... + 32 ° C, at night it drops to + 26 ... + 28 ° C. Sea is warm all year round (+ 29 ... + 31 ° C).

In high season it is good to go diving, for which many people go to Phu Quoc Island.

From May to the first half of November - low season with frequent rains. There may be waves at sea and the water becomes more turbid. The peak low season in Fukuoka is in August and September, when it rains most often.

How to get there

From Russia

Most flights from Russia to Phu Quoc in 2019 are made with a transfer in Ho Chi Minh City or Hanoi. There are options with a transfer in other countries (China, Thailand).

Prices for tickets from Moscow to Fukuoka start at 34,000 rubles (round trip). Sometimes it's cheaper to buy separate tickets to Ho Chi Minh City and separate tickets Ho Chi Minh City - Phu Quoc. We recommend comparing both options.

From vietnam

From mainland Vietnam to Phu Quoc can be reached by plane or ferry.

The option with a ferry does not make sense - it is very long and hardly cheaper than an airplane - so we will not talk about it.

Getting to Phu Quoc Island by plane is simple and convenient. Vietjet Air, Vietnam Airlines and Jetstar Pacific fly daily to Phu Quoc from Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.

The flight from Ho Chi Minh City takes only 1 hour, tickets cost from 2900 rubles for a round trip. The flight from Hanoi lasts 2 hours and costs from 8600 rubles.

From Fukuoka Airport to the city or hotel, you can take a taxi or order in advance. There is practically no public transport on the island.

Tours to Phu Quoc

The cost of vouchers to Phu Quoc - 2019 begins from 31,000 rubles per person (from Moscow).

It is most profitable to go to the island on a tour for at least 7 nights, and better for 11 or 14 nights - sometimes the cost of a ticket for 7 and 11-14 days differs slightly, and sometimes a longer vacation can cost even less.

Minimum prices for tours to Phu Quoc - 2019 (for 1 person):

Island prices

Food

In our experience, Phu Quoc Island food prices in 2019 are 20-30% higher than mainland Vietnam prices.

For example, lunch in an average Fukuoka cafe will cost 80,000-110000 dong (in Nha Trang or Mui Ne you can eat for 60,000-70000 dong).

Approximate prices for food in Fukuoka:

 • fried noodles or rice with chicken / beef - 65-80 thousand dong
 • fried noodles without meat (with vegetables) - 50 thousand dong
 • rice with seafood - 65-85 thousand dong
 • vietnamese coffee - 15-25 thousand dongs
 • necks - 20-30 thousand dongs

These are prices for tourist cafes located near the main beach of Fukuoka (Long Beach). Can be found as more expensive places (restaurants) and cheap eateries for locals (closer to Duong Dong).

In most tourist cafes, the names on the menu are duplicated not only in English, but also in Russian.

On a note: the rating of the best cafes and restaurants in Fukuoka - 2019 with reviews of real tourists from all over the world can be studied on the Tripadvisor website.

Excursions

There are few excursions in Fukuoka. There are local travel agencies, more and more Russian-speaking agencies have appeared recently.

Prices for popular excursions and attractions in Fukuoka in 2019:

 • sightseeing tour of the island - $ 30
 • excursion to the southern islands - $ 17-22
 • northern islands - $ 20-25
 • night fishing for squid - 15 $
 • snorkeling - $ 30
 • diving - $ 60-75 per dive; 80-90 $ for 2 dives
 • boat trip on the islands by boat + snorkeling - 38 $

There are also more expensive excursions to the cities of Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Da Lat) and Cambodia. The price for such excursions starts from 150-300 $ per person.

Beaches

Beach holidays in Fukuoka are the best in all of Vietnam. There are almost no waves on the island, a good bottom and clean sand.

There are more than 10 beaches in Fukuoka, but only 2-3 of them are widely known.

Long beach

Long Beach is the main beach of the island. Most tourists who come to rest in Phu Quoc on their own and on tours stop at Long Beach.

The beach stretches from the city of Duong Dong for several kilometers to the southern tip of the island. The area along Long Beach is called the “tourist area” in Fukuoka, because all the infrastructure is located there - hotels, cafes and restaurants, entertainment, diving centers.

The beach is ideal for relaxing in Fukuoka with children:

 • gentle entrance to the sea
 • clear water
 • sandy bottom
 • no waves

A sun lounger for the whole day costs $ 5, a beach towel - $ 3.

TO disadvantages of the beach include a widespread construction site, a narrow strip of beach (5-7 meters) and a small amount of shade.

Photo: Long Beach

Bai Sao

Bai Sao Beach is a small secluded beach on east side islands. Perhaps this is Fukuoka beach with the most controversial tourist reviews.

In many guidebooks it is called the best beach in Vietnam, but on the net it is often found negative reviews... We could not find out the exact reason: either they clean only the area near the hotels, and garbage on the rest of the beach, or Bai Sao appears in all its glory only at certain times of the year.

In any case, Bai Sao is the most beautiful beach in Fukuoka.

Beach pros:

 • very beautiful - the photos are amazing
 • turquoise sea and clear water
 • gentle descent into the water, you can swim with children
 • in places it is quiet and calm, although during the day they can bring tourists on excursions

Moreover, the beach has and a number of disadvantages:

 • no infrastructure - there are only a few hotels and 1-2 cafes on the beach
 • expensive - accommodation and meals on Bai Sao are several times more expensive than on other beaches of Fukuoka
 • far from everything - if you are staying at a hotel on Bai Sao, keep in mind that after 19: 00-20: 00 life there freezes: deserted, dark, go 2-3 kilometers to the nearest store along a country road

Our review: we stayed on Bai Sao beach for a few days in November (start of high season). The beach is beautiful, but in many places the natural debris from the shore (coconuts, seaweed, etc.) was not removed, which spoiled the picture.

The best option is to stay in a different area, but come to Bai Sao Beach for a half or full day to sunbathe and take pictures. You can rent a bike and come on your own, or take an excursion at one of the travel agencies.

Other beaches

Among the rest of the beaches of Fukuoka, the following can be noted separately:

 • Ong Lang (Ong Lang) - a good two-kilometer beach north of the capital islands. Not as developed as Long Beach, but there are hotels and resorts, restaurants, entertainment.
 • Bai Khem (Bai Khem) - great beach five star hotel. Only hotel guests can get to the beach.
 • Rush Wem (Bai Rach Vem) - a beautiful beach with starfish in the north of the island
 • Duong Dong Beach - coastal line of Duong Dong city. Vietnamese sometimes swim there, but near the port, the beach is dirty - it is better to avoid it.

sights

There are few attractions in Fukuoka. If cultural recreation is of great importance to you, it is better to choose other resorts of Vietnam for your trip.

But people still go to the island primarily for a beach holiday. We tell you what to see in Fukuoka in the remaining time.

Phu Quoc National Park

The national park can be called the main attraction of the island. In it you can see a real jungle, see a waterfall, raise the highest mountain of the island (about 500 meters).

True, since 2017, the park has been closed to the public - now you cannot get into it, but you can walk along several special eco-paths.

Cable car

The cable car that connected the city of An Toi in the south of Fukuoka and Hon Thom Island was opened in February 2018. She entered the Guinness Book of Records as the longest in the world - the length is 7.9 kilometers.

On Hon Thom Island you can get off and spend half a day or a full day there. What is interesting on the island:

 • nice beach with clear water and sun loungers
 • fishing village
 • cafes and restaurants
 • kayak and jet ski rental
 • attractions and entertainment (scuba diving, parasailing, bananas, trampoline, etc.)

The restaurants and cafes on the island are expensive, but there is an unlimited buffet with good food for VND 200,000 ($ 8.6).

Working hours cable car - 08: 30-12: 00 and 13: 30-17: 30. At noon, the road stops for an hour and a half for a technical break, so it's best to arrive in the morning to get to Hon Tom before the break.

The journey from the start of the cable car to the station on the island takes 10 minutes.

Ticket prices - 2019:

 • adult ticket - 500,000 dong ($ 21.5)
 • children (up to 140 cm) - 350,000 dongs ($ 15)
 • children under 140 cm - free

Sometimes there are promotions, and the ticket price drops to 300,000 for adults and 200,000 for children.

To visit the cable car and southern islands it is worth allocating at least half a day, or better - a whole day.

Get there You can get to the Fukuoka cable car on your own by bike, by taking a taxi (about VND 300,000 if you go from the tourist area) or using the free bus. The bus leaves from Duong Dong and passes the entire Long Beach, stopping at large hotels:

Galaxy Hotel 08:00 10:00 13:30
Lucky Hotel 08:10 10:10 13:40
Long beach Center 08:15 10:15 13:45
Sun Sea Resort 08:20 10:20 13:50
Eden Resort 08:25 10:25 13:55
Novotel Resort 08:40 10:40 14:10
Cable car 09:05 11:05 14:35

In the opposite direction, free buses leave at 12:00, 15:00 and 18:00.

Currently, Hon Thom Island is still developing. In the near future it is planned to open new attractions:

 • summer 2019 - water park
 • spring 2010 - theme park
 • spring 2021 - large aquarium

Vinpearl Land Park & Safari

You can have a good time at the Vinpearl Land Phu Quoc amusement park and the eponymous safari park (outdoor zoo).

They are located in the northern part of Fukuoka, next to a five-star hotel. By the way, the hotel gets very good feedback tourists - you can consider it as an option for a holiday on the island if you want to stay closer to the Vinpearl Land couple.

The amusement park and safari park are great places to visit with children: there are a lot of attractions, there are cafes and restaurants, the service is at a good level.

Vinpearl park attractions:

 • water park with 9 slides
 • amusement park (there are many of them, not all to list)
 • ferris wheel
 • 5D cinema
 • slot machines
 • oceanarium
 • dolphin show, mermaid show, fish feeding
 • evening fountain show

Also in the park there is a food court with not too high prices and souvenir shops.

Entrance ticket prices in 2019:

The ticket is sold for the whole day, and you can use it to visit any attractions in the park.

You can get to Vinpearl Land Park either by taxi or by a free bus from Duong Dong.

Other attractions

Above we have named the main, in our opinion, the sights of Fukuoka.

In addition to them, there are many other small attractions and interesting places on the island, for example:

 • coconut prison
 • pearl factory
 • fish sauce factory
 • black pepper plantations
 • bee farm
 • fukuoka Ridgeback Kennel (local dog breed)
 • temples, pagodas, etc.

Most of the attractions are included in sightseeing tour in Fukuoka, but you can visit these places on your own (by bike or by buying a ticket for a tourist bus).

We marked the location of all attractions on the Fukuoka map at the end of the article.

Somewhat not too famous places to visit in Fukuoka:

 • Ink 360 Is the tallest open bar in Fukuoka. It is better to arrive around 17:00 to view the island both in the light and after sunset.
 • Pizza taxi - according to many, the best pizza on Phu Quoc Island (also inexpensive)
 • Premier Village - a beautiful place where luxury villas overlooking the bay are for rent. There is a bar and a restaurant where you can come for dinner or just drink coffee. Prices are above average.
 • episode Beach - a popular bar and night club outdoors in the middle of Long Beach. Open from 08:00 to 20:00, entrance costs $ 2. The best time to arrive is at sunset.
 • Thuong Hai - a good restaurant on Long Beach with low prices and pleasant service
 • Crab House Restaurant - one of the best seafood restaurants in Fukuoka, located in Duong Dong.
 • bee farm - a real farm, located in the eastern part of Fukuoka, next to the Ho Quoc Pagoda. You can take a short tour of the farm, drink delicious tea with honey in a cafe, buy souvenirs.

Transport

The main transport on Phu Quoc Island in Vietnam is taxis and rented bikes. Public transport (buses) are available, but very poorly developed.

Taxi

The most convenient option for most tourists is a local taxi. Usually these are cars with meters, but there are also cars without them.

The standard taxi price according to the meter is 15,000 dong ($ 0.7) per kilometer. If the car is without a meter, the cost will depend on the distance and your bargaining skills.

As a rule, the smaller the car, the lower the cost.

Approximate prices from the center of the island (Duong Dong city):

 • to the airport - 120-160 thousand dongs ($ 6-7)
 • to Bai Sao beach - 400 thousand dongs ($ 17)
 • to the park and the Vinpearl hotel - 460 thousand dongs ($ 20)

Taxis are conveniently ordered at the hotel reception. Better to check the price right away.

If you are arriving to Phu Quoc Island and are not ready to look for a taxi on the spot, you can order a transfer from the airport to the hotel in advance.

A 24-hour ticket costs 220,000 VND ($ 9-10). You can buy it from the driver, on the website, as well as in large hotels and resorts in Fukuoka.

The bus makes 15 stops along the way. The most interesting of them:

 • large hotels
 • fukuoka airport (# 6)
 • coconut prison (no. 8)
 • bai Sao beach (no. 9)
 • ho Quoc Pagoda (# 10)
 • fishing village and port
 • wine factory
 • pepper plantation

Souvenirs, shopping, what to bring

Shopping in Fukuoka is not at all developed. As of 2019, the island has no shopping center... Moreover, there are not even large supermarkets - only small shops like “7/11”.

Souvenirs can be bought either at the Duong Dong night market or at the souvenir shops along Long Beach and Ong Lang beaches. In shops, prices for souvenirs are usually lower than in the night market.

What souvenirs can be brought from Fukuoka:

 • pearl
 • vietnamese rum
 • lotus or jasmine tea
 • silk clothes
 • vietnamese coffee
 • spices, black pepper
 • leather goods, bamboo, etc.

Note: fish sauce is not allowed on the plane - it is usually simply not allowed on board with it. Sometimes it is possible to carry the sauce unnoticed, but if you decide to buy it as a souvenir - keep in mind that you may lose it at the airport.

Hotels and accommodation

There are many hotels in Fukuoka, and every year there are more and more of them. Let's talk about the most popular options.

If you are going on vacation on a tour, the prices for hotels and tours to them can be compared on the websites and. If you are on your own, you can book accommodation on Hotellook (hotels) and Airbnb (private accommodation from the owners).

Vinpearl Resort & Spa 5 *

The five-star resort of Vinpearl is well known for the nearby Vinpearl Land amusement park. The complex consists of big building for 700 rooms and 44 separate villas.

Thanks to nice beach and the proximity of a large amusement park Vinpearl Resort is perfect for relaxing in Fukuoka with children. True, there is no children's animation in the hotel.

The resort has a large green area, a huge swimming pool, delicious food, a spa and a sauna. Full description services at the hotel can be viewed at the link below.

Marriott 5 *

JW Marriott Phu Quoc, unlike most hotels in Phu Quoc, is secluded in the southeast corner of the island, on Bai Khem Beach.

The hotel is notable for its good private beach, which is accessible only to guests. Other pluses: beautiful and well-groomed grounds, several cool pools and bars, stunning interior and exterior.

According to tourists, JW Marriott is one of the best hotels on Phu Quoc Island.

Mango Bay 3 *

Mango Bay is a good three-star hotel on Ong Lang Beach (the second most comfortable beach in Fukuoka), consisting of separate bungalows and villas. The hotel has a lot of greenery and many bungalows have their own wooden terraces.

Free sun loungers and parasols on the beach, as well as kayaks and canoes are available to hotel guests. Has its own diving center.

The hotel puts an emphasis on unity with nature, so rest in it is not suitable for everyone. For example, the rooms do not have TVs or air conditioning.

Sea Star 3 *

One of the best budget hotels in Fukuoka - Sea Star Resort... It is located at the northern end of Long Beach, near Duong Dong. Within walking distance - night market, shops and other interesting places.

How much money to take with you

We figure out how much money to take if you are going on vacation to Phu Quoc on a voucher (that is, tickets and hotels are not included in these calculations).

Please note that the calculations are approximate: for more accurate numbers, you need to take into account your needs and habits.

 • Food. In most ordinary cafes, you can eat for a maximum of 100,000-120000 VND per person ($ 4.5-5). This is the main course + drink (shake, coffee, tea). If you eat three times a day, it will take about 15$ daily. Another $ 5-10 can be pledged for purchases in stores and in the market (water, fruits, etc.)
 • Excursions and entertainment. We advise you to take the cable car and the Winperl amusement park ($ 43); you can take a sightseeing tour of the island for $ 30. Depending on the length of your stay, you are likely to take 1-2 more excursions for $ 25. Total for entertainment - 123$ per person.
 • Transport. If you rent a bike, you will need about 200,000 VND per day ($ 9). This is a little higher than the usual prices, but we take it with a margin. It is difficult to predict taxi costs, but on average it will also be about 9-10$ in a day.
 • Souvenirs. There is nothing special to buy in Fukuoka, enough for gifts 100$ .

Calculation example. How much money to take for Phu Quoc for 7 days (per person):

Total turned out 468 $ or 31800 rubles in 7 days for an ordinary tourist. We recommend that you always take, just in case, at least 30-50% more money (for unforeseen expenses or if you suddenly want expensive excursions and entertainment).

Less money may be required for two as travel and souvenir costs will not change.

Part of Kien Giang Province, Phu Quoc Island includes the island itself and 105 wonderful islets different sizes... The island is located at a distance of 46 km from the city of Hatien - the nearest city of the "mainland" of this province.
Most of the territory is occupied by beautiful sandy beaches, but there is also a mountainous region with 99 mountain peaks; the highest of them is the peak of Mount Chua, 603 meters high. There are six major cities and villages such as An Thoi Town, Kia Kan, Duong Dong, GanhDau Village, Ham Ninh and RachVem. Each of these towns and villages cherishes its own traditions, features and attractions, which undoubtedly contribute to a wonderful time on the island. We will tell you about the best of them in our review.

How to get to Phu Quoc island

There are no direct flights from Russia to Phu Quoc. The most optimal time will be the flight on flights Vietnam Airlines, with one change in Ho Chi Minh City. If you are counting on a budget trip, then the most attractive fares for a flight with two transfers to Phu Quoc Island are Air France and Emirates.
Domestic flights are operated daily by airlines Air Mekong and Vietnam Airlines from Ho Chi Minh Airport, Hanoi, and also from Cann Tho to Phu Quoc Island. Flights last from 50 to 60 minutes, and a one-way ticket starts at $ 40.
The airport Duong dong located in the center of the island just 2 km from Duong Dong town, so the city can be easily reached by various means of transport. You can get to the hotel by taxi for only $ 1.5-2.

Advice: When planning your trip to Phu Quoc, stop for a day in Ho Chi Minh City on the way back and forth. So it will be more convenient to get there (you will be freer in choosing the departure time Ho Chi Minh City-Phu Quoc), plus you will visit a wonderful city.

Ways to get around the island

By car. Most travel agents offer car rental with a driver. Depending on your wishes and the required number of seats, you can rent a car for 7 seats - $ 100 for 3 days (a good option if you are traveling with a large company or have a rest with the whole family), or a bus for 46 seats - $ 300 for 3 days (a reasonable option if you are going to hold corporate meetings in Phu Quoc). If you need a car for only 1 day, the cost of renting a 7-seater car will be about US $ 35.
By taxi.Taxi can become the most convenient mode of transport for those who want to arrive exactly where they need to without problems and escorts. The fare is 60-70 cents per kilometer. The most reliable carriers are Sasco and Mai Linh taxis.
On a motorcycle or bicycle. Most hotels often offer motorbike and bicycle rentals. Check with the administrator to clarify the rental conditions. The rental price will not exceed $ 8 (excluding gasoline), depending on the type of motorcycle. Bike rental prices are calculated on an hourly basis.
On the boat. It is a convenient vehicle when traveling around Phu Quoc Island for sightseeing and especially if you decide to go fishing. For a group of up to 4 people, renting a boat will cost $ 80 per day for 1 boat. For each next passenger of the boat, you will have to pay an additional $ 8.
By bus. For budget travel you can use the public transit bus. Phukok has three bus routes: No. 27 (route Cua Can - Ganh Day - Rach Vem - Rach Tram), No. 28 (route An Thoi - Ham Ninh), No. 29 (Duong Dong - North island). The cost of a ticket in any direction is about $ 2-2.5.
And, of course, you must definitely commit walk through the Duong Dong market and enjoy watching the life of the locals, stopping at the stalls of street vendors or shops.

When to go. Best time to visit Fukuoka

The climate of the Emerald Isle is monsoon subequatorial, with two distinct seasons: a dry season from November to May and a rainy season from June to October (rains can last for 20 days). And despite the fact that in most cases the weather in one way or another allows you to travel around the island all year round, it has been experimentally proven that best time for a trip to Phucco Island - from about the end of October to mid-April, during the dry season, when the sky is blue and clear and the rains have already passed. The hottest months of the year are April and May.

Where to live. Best Hotels in Phu Quoc Island

The variety of the hotel base on the island suggests a vacation for every taste and budget. Most of all on the island there are “like three stars” hotels (in Vietnam, there is simply no star rating for hotels, which is usual for Europe, so everyone sets their own status at their discretion). At the same time, for 1500 - 2500 rubles per room for two per day you can get the highest European level service, beautiful views of the garden or the sea from the panoramic window and the absence of any complaints about the rest. Basically, the hotels are cozy, comfortable bungalows with thatched roofs in traditional Vietnamese style.
Excellent accommodation can be found in any of the finest hotels in Fukuoka. Many will enjoy their stay in Arcadia Phu Quoc Resort, Coco-Palm Resort Phu Quoc, and Saigon Phu Quoc Resort & Spa... One of the most low prices for accommodation offers Lang Cau Homestay, a vacation in a bamboo hut will cost no more than 500 rubles a day for two.

The best beaches and attractions in Phu Quoc Island

FUKOCA BEACHES
The first, and for some the only reason why you need to visit Fukoka is its untouched coastline with several paradise beaches. They have not yet been fully explored, and this is what gives the coast of the island a romantic appeal and beauty that cannot be found anywhere else in the world.

The beaches of Phukok Island stretch along the coast from north to south. You can only admire them and decide for a long time which one you like the most. In order not to be tormented by the choice, we suggest paying attention to the best beaches Fukoka.
Truong Beach. This is a very attractive corner with white sandy beachextending for 20 km: from dinh Cau beach before tau Ru beach... The coastal waters are home to many inhabitants of the deep sea, and the conditions for fishing are ideal. There is an opportunity to watch local fishermen and taste seafood right on the beach.
Ganh Dau Beach located in the north of Phu Quoc Island on the border with Cambodia. Starting at Duong Dong, the coastline stretches north through Phu Quoc Island National Park - all a beautiful beach with blue ocean depths and white sand. While on Ganh Dau Beach on a clear day, you can see Mount Ta Lone in Cambodia. Don't miss the opportunity to sample the delicious seafood.
Sao Beach located in the south, near An Thuy pier and 30 km from Duong Dong. The beach is very quiet. There are few merchants here, so nothing stands in the way of taking full advantage of the magnificent views. The quality of service on the beach is beyond praise: from basic amenities (sun lounger and umbrella) to the restaurant.
Vung Bau Beach - an idyllic beach in the north of the island near Dai Beach, 40 km from Duong Dong and will appeal to those who would like to discover an ecologically clean beach Vietnam.
Bai Thom Beach - a deserted beach in the north of Fukuoka Island, 35 km from Duong Dong. This beach is quite secluded making it ideal for adventure seekers.
Bai Vong Beach located 8 km from Duong Dong. It is a wide and shallow white sand beach with a long palm lane. There is good infrastructure and, as a bonus, it is on bai beach Vong, most people get the best photos.

TASTE THE ISLAND ATMOSPHERE
Phu Quoc is famous for two things: beautiful beaches and national cuisine... Particularly famous on the island is the fish sauce "nuoc mam", which has become popular throughout Vietnam and in the world in general. You can watch the process of making the sauce at the factory Phu Quoc Fish Saucelocated near the Duong Dong market. The entrance to the factory is free for everyone, but it is better to take it with a guide who will tell you in detail about all the stages of making the sauce. And get ready for ... the omnipresent fishy spirit. Working hours from 8.00 to 11.00 and from 13.00 to 17.00... In addition, there is something else to see and taste here: spicy black pepper, with a spicy but rather original flavor. Local farmers organize tours of their plantations for a small fee. You can arrange a walk through the thickets of black pepper at any time of the year, but the best time to visit is from February to July, when the harvest takes place.
Phu Quoc Island has a huge selection of seafood, and they are not only fresh, but also delicious in taste. Shrimp, fish and shellfish caught from the sea and immediately cooked are a real delight for travelers when visiting the island.
Three must-try dishes when traveling to Phu Quoc

Nhum
One of the most bizarre shellfish to try is perhaps nhum, the sea urchin. It is brown and looks like a coconut. There are two options for eating this dish: raw, or after thorough heat treatment. If raw food does not cause discomfort, do not miss the opportunity to taste nhum raw. When you order nhum, the seller cuts the whole nhum in half horizontally like a coconut. Then sprinkle it with lime juice and spoon the meat out of the shell with a spoon, dip it in wasabi sauce and enjoy. Fresh taste and sweet aroma combined with wasabi sauce and lime sourness - you can hardly resist and refuse the second portion.

Nhong
Phu Quoc is also famous for its nhong fish dish. You can cook it in different ways: fried, boiled, stewed. Nhong fish is also used to make "cha ka" - a cake with fish. A slice of rice cake, vegetables, and fish cake make a good pairing for rolls.
The nhong fish is also a good garnish for a salad. It is used to make goi ka, a fish salad. The secret to a good salad is in choosing the right fish and making the sauce. The fish must be fresh and the fillets are cut very thinly. Sprinkle lime juice on the fish before eating. Then place the fish and some vegetables on a slice of rice cake and dip in the sauce. The sauce is a mixture of garlic, chili, peanuts, lime juice, fish sauce, and a little sugar.

Bang kang
Bang Kang (a variety of noodles) - takes on a completely different taste when combined with fish and is considered a feature of the traditional cuisine of Phucco. Served hot, it is a bowl of noodle soup garnished with thu fish fillets. At ease, you can find this fish in three varieties: boiled, fish meatballs and pieces of well-done fillet. Different ways of preparing and serving this fish give this dish a quirky flavor. The best bang kang options can be tried in a cafe Banh canh lady phunglocated in a small alley not far from the street Nguyen trung truc.

What to see in Phu Quoc

PAGODA SUNG HUNG
According to the Mahayana, Sung Hung Pagoda is one of the oldest pagodas in Fukuoka. It is located at the foot of a mountain near the center of Duong Dong. There is no exact information about who and when exactly the pagoda was built. Old-timers talk about two different pagodas, which were called "Sung Nghia" and "Hung Nhan" and were built long before her; then these names merged together, and today all this is called "Sung Hung Pagoda". According to rumors, it was built at the beginning of the 20th century. The pagoda was restored twice: in 1924 and 1960.
The Sung Hung Pagoda has a unique architecture for the ancient pagodas. Its doors are facing north. The pagoda is surrounded by huge trees, and its structure resembles a staircase, which gets higher and higher with each step. It has an impressive triangle-shaped gate leading to the Avolokiteshvara Bodhisattva statue (the embodiment of the infinite compassion of all Buddhas or the Goddess of Mercy) in the middle of the courtyard. Inside the meticulously decorated main hall. The altar of the temple is located in the main hall, in which three Buddhas are seated on a dais: Amitabha - in the middle, Mahasthamaprapta Bodhisattva - on the right and Avolokiteshvara Bodhisattva - on the left. Behind the statues is Cao Sanh's famous Flying Dragon.
There are also many other decorations inside the pagoda, such as the "Dai Hong Chung" - a large bell, and many engraved quotes on the philosophy of Chinese Buddhism.
Seung Hung Pagoda is quite easy to visit as it is located near the center of Duong Dong. Free admission. The pagoda is open to the public from 7.00 to 17.30.

KAU PALACE
One of the most famous landmarks in Fukoka is located on the west coast of the island. The palace was built relatively recently, in 1937, in honor of Thien Hau, the goddess of the seas. It is worth getting to the palace at least for the scenic views of the mouth of the Duong Dong River. A special sight awaits those who enter the palace at the end of November (15-16 days of the tenth lunar month according to the Buddhist calendar), when the palace is hosting a festival dedicated to Thien Hau.

COCONUT PRISON
The Coconut Prison, also known as Phucok Prison, is located in An Thoi City. The name "coconut" originated during the Indo-Chinese War and the rule of French colonists in Vietnam. Then there were four sectors in the prison: "A", "B", "C" and "D"; the prison is believed to have held up to 14,000 inmates. However, after the end of the Indo-Chinese War, most of the prisoners returned home in accordance with the Geneva Agreements.
With the outbreak of the Vietnam War, American troops built a new prison with the same name. The new prison had separate sections for men, women and the elderly. Over time, in 1966, another part of the prison was built, intended for Vietnamese soldiers serving sentences. There were 12 separate sections in the new part of the prison. Each sector was subdivided into four more sectors. The prison was guarded very strictly, surveillance was conducted around the clock.
Today, since 1986, the Coconut Prison has been designated a National Historical Heritage Site and now serves as a guided tour, a living testimony to war crimes. Some of the instruments of torture that were once tested on prisoners are kept here to this day. For example, you can see the "Katso Tiger Cage", in which the prisoner was in complete darkness for a long time and after being released from this tiger cage, the prisoners most often became blind.

MAGIC WELL
Magic well Giếng Ngự located 2 km from An Thoi. The beautiful landscapes of the lake and the verdant mountain slopes of the island undoubtedly cause genuine delight among tourists. On the mountain is a small temple and a pink stone throne known as the "Royal Throne". When approaching the Magic Well, you can see a stella in the place where the "King's Sword" entered, and from where a cool spring came later.
The magic well has not only historical, but also mystical significance, which should not be overlooked by those traveling to Fukok. In the 17th century, fleeing from the pursuing Taisong troops, King Nguyen and his soldiers were exhausted from thirst due to the lack of fresh water. To survive, the king had no choice but to raise his sword to heaven and pray to the Almighty: "If the Almighty still wants to see me king - then, may he send us food and water." As soon as the king thrust his sword into the ground after this prayer, a stream of clear water gushed out of the ground to everyone's amazement.
Choosing the island of Phukok as a refuge to rest and recover from the defeat in the Tai-Son rebellion, King Nguyen was able to defeat Tyson's troops and, a few years later, take control of the Saigon-Gia Din region.

SOURCE TRUNG
The 15 km long spring originates in Mount Ham Ninh and flows through the forest thickets, forming waterfalls. Sparkling waterfalls flowing into the green forest undoubtedly complement the picturesque landscape presented to the amazed gaze of the traveler. Perhaps the very name of the source, the name Tranh ("picture", "view") comes from the magnificent view of this source and the surrounding area.
A 15-minute motorbike ride from Duong Dong City brings you to Tranh Alley, an ideal picnic spot. You can grab some food with you to rest at the spring, and then go into the forest and watch birds and other representatives of the local flora and fauna, following the winding paths and rocky steps along the stream. After a long walk, during which you can enjoy the singing of birds and the beauty of orchids, you will see hang Doi Mainsail (Bat Grotto), located in the mountains at an altitude of 200 meters. It is home to beautiful stalactites and can be another hospitable tourist destination. And after an exciting walk, you can relax by plunging into the cool waters of the spring. The cost of visiting the source is VND 30,000.
And be sure to listen to the story of the mysterious 10 kg fish caught in the spring by the locals in 2008. There are strange points on the head of this fish, which is why its head resembles that of a monk, and its tail looks like a float on water. They say that this fish is so rare that locals have not seen anything like it for a long time. Although one foreign tourist offered $ 1,000 for the fish, local tourism executives still display it as an exhibit. So, you can look at it yourself for free.

FISHING VILLAGE HEM NIN
Located 20 km northwest of Duong Dong town, Ham Ninh is a fishing village famous for its charming scenery and the calm, measured life of local fishermen.
Initially, the inhabitants of the village of Ham Ninh were engaged only in fishing, but more recently tourism and the sale of seafood and souvenirs have become the main source of income for the local population.
Visiting Ham Ninh, travelers get a rare chance to taste refreshing healthy drinks and seafood - for example, tincture of ginseng and seaweed, mushroom "Tram" (a special island mushroom), tincture of seahorse. And, of course, admire the enchanting sunsets, and before returning home, purchase crabs, a bottle of seahorse tincture or seashell souvenirs as a gift to family and friends.

DIVING IN ARCHIPELAGO ANTHOI
Archipelago An Thới, located opposite the southern end of Fukuoka, consists of 15 tiny islets, the largest of which is only three kilometers long. Fans of snorkeling and diving, fishing enthusiasts, and those who want to spend time in the form of Robinson Crusoe (there are small fishing villages only on the largest of the islands, all the rest are uninhabited) should definitely visit the islands of the archipelago and plunge into the coastal waters. Boats to the islands leave from the pier in the city of An Thoi, but you can always save yourself from looking for the right vessel and book a trip to the archipelago by contacting the hotel administrator. It is important to remember that at the height of the rainy season - from July to September, it is almost impossible to get to the archipelago, the boat service in Fukuoka is seasonal.

Top Travel Agent. This does not oblige you to anything, different travel agents will send you answers and you will get an objective picture of prices. Also, it makes sense to contact Top Travel Agent for those who do not have time to organize their trip.

The advantages of Fukuoka over the resorts of mainland Vietnam:

 • Phu Quoc is an island, which means it is quite shallow off the coast. The water warms up well, the waves are incomparably less than in Nha Trang or Mui Ne.
 • Nothing here reminds of big cities, only nature - the sea, the jungle. Phu Quoc is very well suited for a quiet, relaxing break.
 • The infrastructure of the island is already quite developed to make the rest comfortable: there is international Airport, Winperl amusement park, great diving here.
 • This is the southernmost resort in Vietnam. You can rest here when it is off-season in Mui Ne and Nha Trang - in January, February, etc.
 • This is European tourist resort, unlike, for example, Vung Tau. That is, the resort is adapted to the needs of Europeans and is cozy here.
 • In Fukuoka, you can find real solitude, there are still corners where there are very few tourists, quiet beaches on which there are only a few houses.
 • Holidays in Fukuoka go well with excursions in the Mekong Valley or a trip to Cambodia.

general information

Phu Quoc is a tropical island in the Gulf of Thailand, the largest island in Vietnam. Its length is approximately 48 km, and its width is 25 km. The island is located 45 km. from mainland Vietnam and only 15 km. from Cambodia.

Phu Quoc Island from the plane

Phu Quoc administratively belongs to the Kien Giang province, the capital of which is Rach Gia. This province is mostly insular, it includes 145 small and medium-sized islands, mostly uninhabited. Phu Quoc belongs to a group of 22 islands, of which it is naturally the largest.

Until the 18th century, the island belonged to Cambodia. For a long time, this island was a disputed territory between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Cambodia has repeatedly tried to reclaim Phu Quoc, but to no avail. This is also why there is still a military unit in Fukuoka, although the presence of the military on the island is completely invisible to tourists.

There is another dark turn in the history of this beautiful island: during the time when Vietnam was a French colony, Phu Quoc was used as a prison for political prisoners, and during the Vietnam War, Viet Cong captured by the Americans were kept here.

Now tourism is developing very rapidly in Fukuoka, every year more and more large hotels are being built.

Phu Quoc? Phu Quoc? Fookok? Phu Quoc? How is it correct?

In fact, all of the above names are used, including by search engines for air tickets and hotels, but the name Fukuoka has become the most used name in Russian.

Note that there is a city in Japan with a very similar name - Fukuoka. This is a very important point, because sometimes there is confusion when booking hotels or air tickets.

Climate

Phu Quoc, weather. When is the best time to go?

Fukuoka has a tropical climate. All year round, the air temperature is in the range of 25-33 degrees, the water temperature is 27-28 degrees.

The best time to relax on the island is from November to March (inclusive), at this time the sky is blue, there is minimal rainfall, and the sea is calm.

From April to June, as well as in the second half of October, the weather is as lucky here. As a rule, the weather is good in the morning, and it can rain heavily in the afternoon. Also, the period from April to June is characterized by strong thunderstorms.

From July to October, tourists have nothing to do on the island, there is a lot of rain, dirt roads around the island are washed out, and it is difficult to move around on a motorbike. The storm season lasts from July to September, and it is usually impossible to swim at this time.

Visa for Vietnam

Do I need to get a visa when going to Phu Quoc

There is information on the Internet that Fukuoka has its own visa regime, and that if you buy a direct ticket here, you do not need to get a visa. Is it so?

The easiest way to find out is by using the TIMATIC international system, which is used by all airlines when boarding passengers. Also TIMATIC contains information on requirements for transit visas and even necessary vaccinations.

The TIMATIC service data can be checked, for example, for citizens of Russia and Ukraine, there are no special reservations regarding travel to Phu Quoc, that is, the general visa regime applies.

But in Fukuoka the airport is international, which means that if you make a letter of "visa support" to Vietnam, approval letter in advance, then a visa can be obtained upon arrival at the airport of Phu Quoc Island.

Russians can enter Vietnam for up to 15 days without a visa. If during this period it is planned to leave the country (for example, to Cambodia, which is important for some travelers, since Cambodia is very close), then back to Vietnam it will be possible to enter without a visa only after 30 calendar days from the date of departure.

If you plan to go on an excursion to Cambodia, you need to obtain a visa to Vietnam. Please note that this is a new visa rule that has been in effect since January 1, 2015, so many of the previously written advice regarding visa-free entry / exit is no longer relevant.

Fukuoka beaches

Around Fukuoka the sea, and, accordingly, the island is surrounded by a strip of sand. But there are not so many tourist, that is, initially beautiful and equipped for the needs of tourists, beaches - these are Long Beach, Bai Sao, Oang Lang.

Long Beach (Duong Duong, Duong Dong, Duong Dong, Bai Truong)

It starts from the city of Duong Duong and stretches 7 km south of the capital of the island. The most developed, most popular beach.

The vast majority of tourists who go to Phu Quoc stop at Long Beach. The sand is loose, yellowish.

Ong Lang

Ong Lang beach in Fukuoka

Located on the west coast, a few kilometers from Long Beach. There are quite a few hotels here, but fewer than Long Beach.

The beach is well-maintained, well-groomed, tourist. The sand is the same as on Long Beach - loose, yellowish, soft.

Dai Beach, Cape Gan Dau (Dai Beach, Cape Gan Dau, Ganh Dau Beach)

Beaches in the northwestern part of the island. From here you can see Cambodia and Mount Compote. A few years ago it was a very quiet place, with a few small restaurants on the beach.

In 2014, a huge Winperl hotel with 402 rooms and an amusement park were built here.

Bai Sao (Sao beach)

Bai Sao beach on Phu Quoc island

This beach is considered one of the most beautiful not only in Fukuoka, but in all of Vietnam. White fine sand, coconut trees bowing to the water, turquoise water ...

There are few hotels here, in general the place is very quiet, but in the afternoon tourists are brought here from Long Beach. If you wish, it is easy to get here on your own, by motorbike. Many people come here from Long Beach.

On the beach, you can easily relax with children, because here there is shallow water near the coast, and in order to overcome it, you need to walk quite far from the coast. At the same time, it is almost always windy on Bai Sao.

Wong beach

A picturesque beach a few kilometers north of Bai Sao. Here, too, white sand, in some places separate stones, but not as popular as Bai Sao. The beach is even wilder than Bai Sao. There is a lot of garbage in the off-season.

Khem Beach (Bai Khem)

The beach is about 1.5 km long. Located just south of Bai Sao. For a long time, the beach belonged to the military. The beach is beautiful, but since it is not touristy, it is not well maintained. There are several cafes for locals, a fishing village.

Sung hung pagoda

There are several pagodas in Fukuoka, for those who live on Long Beach geographically this pagoda is the most convenient to visit, since it is located near the Night Market.

Su muon pagoda

Small typical Vietnamese pagoda. Of course, this is not the kind of attraction for which it is worth traveling half the world, but if you are already in Fukuoka and want to diversify your beach program, then you can drop by.

Phu Quoc National Park

Trees in Phu Quoc National Park

Located in the north of the island. Many people are misled by the word "park" in the name. Typical national park is a nature reserve.

Phukoka National Park is a protected part of the rainforest, with about 900 plant species and about 150 species of animals, reptiles, etc.

Phu quoc waterfall

The waterfall looks more or less impressive only in the rainy season and immediately after it, then the water becomes scarce and the rivulet dries up.

During the dry season, the water dries up, but you can still walk here to look at the rainforest. It is best to arrive early in the morning.

During the day, many people come here, including locals who love to come here. Usually, they leave behind all the garbage that remains after picnics. In the morning there is a chance to find silence and purity.

Black pepper plantations

The best black pepper in all of Vietnam is grown in Fukuoka. There are several such plantations on the island.

As an independent sight, such plantations are not particularly interesting. But tourists are brought here as part of almost all tours around the island.

Pearl plantations

There are several pearl farms in Fukuoka. Fukuoka is said to have very good pearls as the sea is warm, which is very good for shells.

Pearl farms are almost imported as part of excursions. Naturally, the final stage of the farm visit is a visit to the pearl shop at the farm. Prices are usually high there, but it is a guarantee that the pearls are real.

Fish Sauce Factory

The Vietnamese cannot imagine a dinner without Nyok Mam fish sauce. In Vietnam, fish sauce has the same meaning as, for example, salt in European cuisine.

Fish sauce is made in special factories and only fish and salt are needed to make it. They make fish sauce like this: sprinkle small fish (usually anchovies) with salt, put them in barrels and leave them for 9-12 months.

Barrels are opened periodically, left in the sun to speed up fermentation. Gradually, a large amount of a red-brown liquid is formed in the barrels, it is poured into clean barrels, and kept in air for several weeks to weather the odor. This creates a first-class fish sauce.

Sauce of the second and third grade is made with the addition of water. The inferior sauce is made by boiling fish leftovers from barrels. Often in factories, a low-grade sauce is mixed with a high-quality one to get a large amount of sauce acceptable to taste, sometimes glutamate, sugar, dyes are added.

Choosing a first-class fish sauce is easy - it should be whiskey-colored, reddish-brown, absolutely transparent. If the sauce is dark, then it is of low quality or has been standing for too long.

Fukuoka has several factories for the production of fish sauce, it is believed that the best sauce in all of Vietnam is made in Fukuoka. You can visit the sauce factory, there is no awful smell knocking down. You can look at the technology, look into the barrels.

Attention: Vietnam has a ban on the export of fish sauce from the country. According to the rules, it is forbidden to transport it even by domestic airlines. Sometimes it is possible to carry it in the luggage, but in most cases the bottles are taken away. So it is unrealistic to bring fish sauce as a souvenir from Vietnam.

Diving

Diving is also what many people go to Phu Quoc for. There is a warm sea, pristine corals, no dangerous sharks.

Diving here takes place in the northwestern part of the island and in the south, in the area of the Arpihelagi islands.

Phu Quoc Island hotels

In Fukuoka, you can find hotels of any comfort level - from spectacular and luxurious five-star hotels to inexpensive guesthouses. But each category has its own best. Below is a short overview of the best hotels on the island.

Budget hotels and guesthouses on Phu Quoc Island

Hoa nhat lan bungalow

The best option for the most budget accommodation. Only 10 rooms. All are air conditioned.

La Mer Resort

The hotel is not located on the first line, but the beach is only 3-5 minutes walk. Beautiful grounds, very cozy bungalows, swimming pool. Good offer.

Lan Anh Garden Resort

A very good option for accommodation. There is a swimming pool, the beach is just 200 meters away. Green cozy area, there are sun loungers, swings, etc.

All rooms have both air conditioners and fans. But note that standard rooms no terrace.

Castaways Resort

Perhaps the hotel lacks greenery a little, but there is a pool, the sea is nearby (but the hotel is not on the first line), the bungalows are very decent. And yet quite inexpensive for such conditions.

Bungalow Mai Phuong Binh

The beach is 200 meters away. The rooms are air conditioned. You can rent bicycles, there is a transfer service from / to the airport.

Ninila fruit farm bungalow

The complex is being completed. Very good budget place with only 8 bamboo bungalows. Rooms with a fan, hot water is available. Not on the beach, but free bikes are available.

3 star hotels in Phu Quoc Island

Peppercorn Beach Resort

The hotel is located in the northern part of the beach, in a secluded area.

Russian-speaking travelers hardly ever stay here, and meanwhile among Western travelers this is a very popular hotel with leading positions in booking systems.

This is a place for those who are looking for tranquility, solitude and silence, who want to stay away from the main tourist streams. Perhaps such a distance from civilization for 2 weeks is too much, but for 2-3 days it's just fine.

There are only 12 bungalows, a restaurant, hammocks on the beach among coconut trees. There is no pool. Basically, the lack of a pool can be a problem, since sometimes jellyfish and biting plankton appear in the sea around Fukuoka. But just 3 km from the hotel there is a golf club with a course of 27 holes.

Orange Resort

Very good value for money, the hotel is on the shore, there is private beach, swimming pool. Better to focus on the deluxe bungalow, as the standard and superior rooms are located in the long building.

Cottage Village

Small hotel, 20 bungalows. Located in a quiet location, a 10-minute walk from Ong Lang Beach. The hotel offers free bicycles or a motorbike for a fee.

Very beautiful green area, swimming pool, well-kept bungalows. Free transfer from the airport and back if you stay for 5 days or more. Relatively inexpensive.

Arcadia Phu Quoc Resort

A very popular hotel. A complex of rooms and beautiful bungalows. Here it makes sense to focus only on the bungalows, some rooms in the building are rather dark due to small windows.

It is located on a very nice part of the beach with a developed tourist infrastructure (restaurants, cafes). The disadvantages are the lack of a pool, there are not always enough sun beds.

Langchia Village - Famiana Village

The hotel is a 2-minute walk from Long Beach. Green area. Swimming pool.

4 star hotels in Phu Quoc Island

La Veranda Resort Phu Quoc

The hotel belongs to a large chain of upscale hotels MGallery, the network unites about 50 hotels on all continents.

Refined hotel, beautiful colonial style building, highest standards of service. Lovely, very well maintained part of the beach with a wide strip of sand. Nice restaurant.

Chen Sea Resort & Spa Phu Quoc

Small complex of bungalows and villas. There are villas with their own spa pool (fresh water, hydromassage).

Sea Sense Resort

The hotel is located away from the main cluster of hotels, in a very quiet location. Here you should focus on suites with sea views and beach villas, the usual rooms are not so spectacular.

The sea view suites and villas have been recently refurbished, very stylish and comfortable with modern furnishings. There is a view pool, the area in front of the pool is well organized so that everyone can enjoy the sea view.

Famiana Resort & Spa

A hotel for a calm, respectable holiday. There are two groups of rooms here - on the beach and in the "Green Zone", behind the road, from where they are taken to the beach in an electric car.

In a hotel great servicevery good restaurant. Everyone who stops here celebrates the delicious, generous breakfasts with fruits and desserts.

The hotel is ideal for families with children - there is a very clean beach and sea (a section of the sea is fenced with buoys around the perimeter, for safety and to protect from debris. There is an employee near the pool who closely monitors the bathing of children. There is a small trampoline and a slide for children. ...

The hotel has a very large area, sun loungers, swing under the palm trees. Good internet throughout, including the beach. Free transfer from / to the airport. Nice spa. Everything is there for a comfortable, relaxing stay.

Saigon Phu Quoc Resort & Spa

Highly a beautiful hotel with a large territory and a long strip of its own beach. Great pool. Free transfer from / to the airport, free bike rental. Nice spa.

The part of the sea in front of the hotel's beach is fenced with a net for safe swimming and protection from debris. There is a tennis court, playground, there are small inflatable slides in the sea for children.

Phu Quoc is a tropical island in the south of Vietnam. He beckons tourists by promising paradise beaches, cheap seafood, beautiful rest in resorts. Are these promises true? In general, yes. Fukuoka is a great place to relax and is worth a visit. But the island manifests its Vietnamese character - it will accumulate nuances and reservations, as in a contract with a cunning lawyer. There is no need to give up your vacation, just read our review and advice. Forewarned is forearmed.

Tourists go to Phu Quoc for cheap seafood... Yes, they are here in abundance. But seafood can be enjoyed at any resorts in Vietnam - and prices are in and below.

Holidays in Fukuoka safe in terms of natural disasters, in contrast to the center of Vietnam. The island is protected mountain range... Tsunamis do not happen here, typhoons do not rage. The climate itself is milder, there is no intense heat.

While still there is no general Russification, as in Nha Trang or, so basic knowledge of English will come in handy.

In general, Phu Quoc produces ambiguous impression: it is quiet and calm, but the infrastructure is poorly developed, prices are high by Vietnamese standards, there are few attractions.

Rash Wem is a picturesque starfish beach in the north of Fukuoka.

When is the best time to go to Phu Quoc? Weather and seasons - 2019

For almost the whole year, the temperature remains at the same level: air +29 ... + 31 ° С, water +26 ... + 28 ° С.

Leisure season... It is better to go to Phu Quoc Island to rest - it is warm and dry. However, from December to April, the most high prices... The island is especially popular on. At this time the number russian tourists increases significantly. We rested in Fukuoka in December and January, also meeting here New Year.

Hot season... From April to June it gets hotter, there is still not much rainfall. You can have a rest, but not as comfortable as in winter. In the reviews, tourists note that from mid-March to May there may be jellyfish in the sea.

Rain season in Fukuoka begins in July, the maximum rainfall occurs in September and October. The rest of the time the island has favorable conditions for beach holidays, diving and snorkeling.

Long Beach is the longest on the island.

Fukuoka beaches

There are many beaches in Fukuoka - the island is famous for them.

Long Beach is the longest and most popular beach in Fukuoka. It is here that almost all the tourist infrastructure of the island is concentrated: hotels, resorts, cafes, restaurants, dive centers. Getting to the beach itself is not so easy! The entire first line is completely occupied by expensive resorts and hotels. They do not want to let tourists pass through their territory, they have to wander through the maze in search of an outlet to the sea. They can also drive away from the beach - everyone the best places occupied by the sun loungers of the hotels on the first line. The beach, by the way, is very narrow and cramped. We recommend choosing others for your vacation.

Bai Sao - This beach is considered the best in Fukuoka. Beautiful beach with fine powdery sand, rather wide. Located in the southeastern part of the island, you need to go to it by bike or taxi. There are very few hotels here. There is a cafe, fruit stands, showers, toilets.

In the northern part of the island there are several wild and uncrowded beaches -all with a gentle bottom, clear water and completely white sand. It is here that the beach with starfish is located. Awesome place - definitely go! There are almost no hotels and resorts, but there are seafood restaurants. Come here for beauty, solitude and silence.

South part of Long Beach.

Hotel prices - 2019

The choice of accommodation in Fukuoka is large: there are both cheap guesthouses and luxury resorts. We love testing different accommodations, so we lived in Fukuoka in a guesthouse, a hotel, and three resorts.

Hotels Fukuoka is more expensive than other resorts in Vietnam. A decent room will cost from $ 25 (we recommend Sailing Hotel).

Guesthouses... You can find a cheap room in guest house for $ 9, but such accommodation is far from the beach. We lived in a family guesthouse.

Resorts... It is best to relax in Fukuoka in resorts - these are oases of peace and quiet. Prices are adequate:

 • We paid $ 25 for a double house in a modest but cozy Cozy resort.
 • Good resorts with a pool and breakfasts start at $ 40. We stayed at Miana Resort and - we recommend it.
 • There are also very cool five-star resorts with luxurious villas for $ 150 per day - for example, The Shells Resort & Spa.

Look for hotels with discounts at Skyscanner Hotels. Here are the main ones.

The Hill Resort is a good resort in Fukuoka for $ 40 per night.

What to see in Fukuoka

Holidays in Fukuoka are mainly on the beach. There are few attractions on the island: there is a large national park reserve, waterfalls, pagodas and temples, Winperl amusement park and safari, Thom Island cable car, pearl plantation, coconut prison and fish sauce factory. The brightest and most picturesque are the floating village and the beach with starfish in the north of the island, the port and the city of An Thoi in the south.

We advise you to rent a motorbike (150 thousand dongs per day) and ride around the island exploring its attractions. Roads outside the city and the tourist area are free - driving is a pleasure! We even celebrated the New Year 2018, riding a bike on empty night roads.

We recommend renting a bike in Fukuoka - with it you will see many interesting places!

 • A comprehensive program with snorkeling, short fishing, dinner and excursion - from $ 17.
 • The same, but with night fishing for squid - from $ 30.

 • Yachting is not developed, but you can ride a boat or a pleasure boat.

Some northern beaches have starfish.

Food prices - 2019. Is the food good?

In Fukuoka cooked tasteless, and in a number of tourist cafes it is completely disgusting. This is noted by many tourists in their reviews. As lovers of Vietnamese cuisine, we also believe that Phu Quoc Island is far behind other Vietnamese resorts in terms of the quality of its cuisine.

Food prices also not happy. Everything is more expensive in Fukuoka than on the mainland. Smoothies - from 20 thousand dongs, rice with chicken or seafood in a tourist cafe - from 70 thousand portions of fish, squid or shrimps - from 100 thousand. In the capital of the island - the city of Duong-Dong - you can eat cheaper.

For tasty and inexpensive food, avoid the tourist spots and look for places where Vietnamese eat themselves.

With grocery stores in Fukuoka, things are very bad. Even a rural store in the Russian provinces will seem like a hypermarket by comparison. The assortment includes only specific Asian snacks, beer, soda, crackers and other snacks. Fortunately, everything is in order on the island: there are many sellers, prices are reasonable.

Shopping

In Fukuoka, there is practically no, the exception is small shops and a night market. Showers, pearls, coffee, cocoa, local black pepper and souvenirs are available. For more impressive shopping, it is better to go to Ho Chi Minh City.

On popular beaches, you can buy inexpensive fruit cuts from vendors.

It is better to book a hotel in Fukuoka in advance, especially for the New Year. We planned our trip late and the choice of accommodation was modest.

There is no public transport on the island. If only a free bus to the Winperl amusement park and a regular bus to the village of An Thoy. Rent a bike and ride for fun! If driving without rules (and the Vietnamese have not even heard of traffic rules) is unacceptable to you, use a taxi - they are abundant here.

Mosquitoes on the island devour mercilessly! Nasty mosquitoes will interfere with your sleep and bite you in the cafe during dinner. Stock up on fumigators and repellents.

Withdraw money from MB (Military Bank) ATMs - they are the only ones that do not charge a commission.

There are no buses from Fukuoka Airport, only taxis. However, many hotels and resorts provide guests with a free transfer - check when booking.

Don't limit yours to just Fukuoka. Outside the island, everything is interesting: culture, nature, cuisine, historical sights.

Long Beach faces the west, so you can watch beautiful sunsets on the shore.
